  • Video Preview - Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume III

March 13th 2026 This week on The Artbook Collector YouTube channel is a preview of a release that highlights the art behind Elden Ring's DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree . The English hardcover edition of Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume III has finally arrived from publisher Udon Entertainment for patient players wanting some art on their shelf. The 320-page book was released on March 3rd 2026 and features art for the characters, enemies, bosses, locations, weapons, and items of the game's expansion. The book was originally released in Japan in 2024 from publisher Kadokawa, but it was expected that Udon would be delivering the book to fans in the West. After a couple of delays, the book is now here and can be previewed below. Inside you will find the artwork from the talented artists for the DLC, highlighting the visual style that has been consistent across all of the 'Souls-like' games from the studio, including Demon Souls and Bloodborne . It acts as a direct follow up to Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume I and Volume II , even having the chapters begin with 'Part 7', picking up where the last book left off. The artwork is stunning as expected, showcasing the gothic and atmospheric environments with the brutal enemy designs. In my review, I praised the production quality of the physical book and the artwork. However, the concept art is all late of final designs, so you don't get to see alternative or unused ideas that didn't make it into the game. It also falls short on the page design too, leaving a lot of empty space. It's best if you think of it as an illustration showcase, as opposed to a book of concept art. You can read that review in full here - Book Review . Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree  is an expansion to the open-world RPG from FromSoftware and was released in 2024. It takes players to the new region of Land of Shadow following the trail of the demigod Miquella, all while taking on more brutal enemies, exploring new locations, and discovering new ways to survive the world of Elden Ring . The DLC was a critical and commercial success, selling more than 10 million units in sales, a huge number for additional content. With so many taking on the Land of Shadow, this book will no doubt be of interest to a lot of gamers. • Interview: Clover Press' Hank Kanalz Talks 'The DC Art of Bruno Redondo'

March 13th 2026 Publisher Clover Press are on an exciting run with their artbooks showcasing the work of some of the biggest name in the comic book world. The second entry in their series of books for DC Comic's artists, The DC Art of Bruno Redondo , is in the final week of its successful Kickstarter campaign, the perfect time to catch up with Publisher Hank Kanalz about their artbooks. This follows my first interview with him last summer, in which we spoke about ' The Marvel Art of Tyler Kirkham ' and the choice to use Kickstarter for their releases. Check out the latest interview below and visit the crowdfunding campaign to back the project and order a copy of the book, along with some exclusive extras - The DC Art of Bruno Redondo Kickstarter . Thanks for speaking with me again about your artbooks! It’s the final week of your Kickstarter campaign for ‘ The DC Art of Bruno Redondo ’, one that has been hugely successful. How does it feel to have another book receive so much support? Kanalz : It always feels great! We love these books as they support our artist partner directly, so the success of the campaign means success for the artist. The Slipcase Edition of The DC Art of Bruno Redondo The book comes with over 200 pages of Bruno Redondo’s work for DC comics in a premium hardcover, giving his art the showcase it deserves. What was it like working with him and putting together the book and Kickstarter extras? Kanalz : Bruno is a dream to work with on this. He has a vision for his book and had broken down the layout of his book before we even started. He’s full of ideas and is passionate about the ways to present it. He pitched us on the Nightwing Covers collection, and we added it with no hesitation.   The campaign allows people to secure a copy of the book with their pledge, but Clover Press have taken advantage of the platform and offer exclusive extras. Available this time are dustjacket and slipcase editions, the Nightwing Covers collection you already mentioned, a sketchbook, prints, stickers, and more. How do you did you decide on what extras to include for the campaign? Kanalz : Bruno pitched us on the Nightwing Covers book, so that was an easy add. The real special extra that folks are responding to is the Nightwing 87 Wingspan Edition — Bruno had drawn that as one continuous page, but it was printed in the U.S. as a standard comic. But there’s nothing standard about it! A publisher in Spain printed it the way Bruno conceived it, and we’re printing a slipcased, hardcover version here. DC has been an amazing partner with us, to make this a special campaign. Last time we spoke, you had recently launched ‘ The Marvel Art of Tyler Kirkham ’ on Kickstarter, which will be hitting retail stores soon. Since that interview, you launched your 8th and 9th books in the Marvel series and now this second title in the DC artbook line. With both series doing so well, where do you see them going in the future? Kanalz : We’re quite pleased with the diversity of artists we’ve worked with so far. We really do offer something for everyone, and while a particular artist may not be your cuppa tea, the chances are that at least one of our artists is. But I’m floored at how many folks support ALL our art books. Great art is great art! So our goal is to bring great artists to your table and shelves. I’d like to see us expand beyond the Marvel and DC series, too. The appetite for artbooks doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, despite the world becoming more digital. Fans love to see the incredible portfolios of their favourite artists presented in a physical book, but they take a lot of work to put together. What is the biggest challenge or task when creating your books? Kanalz : The toughest challenge is what to cut. Often times, there are too many choices. And the level of artist we work with creates exemplary work, so it’s tough to say “this one doesn’t make the book."   As a publisher in the artbook world, have you noticed any trends or changes over the last few years, either from the people that buy the books, or things behind the scenes when putting them together? Kanalz : It’s not a trend per se, but I think our customer expects a high quality product that will last. And they appreciate innovation and classy extras so the book itself is a work of art, in addition to the art itself.  The Dustjacket Edition of The DC Art of Bruno Redondo , exclusive to Kickstarter Congratulations on the continued success! To wrap up our interview, let everyone know where they can support Clover Press and what else you have been working on that people can look forward to. Thank you so much! We’ve been growing slowly, and we appreciate the support from folks like you, too. You can find us at your local comic shop, many bookstores, and at  cloverpress.us ! We have an amazing slate of books coming up in 2026. The Kickstarter for The DC Art of Bruno Redondo ends on March 20th, go and check out the page and secure a copy for your own collection, as well as additional extras that will be exclusive to backers of the campaign here . A big thanks again to Hank Kanalz for taking the time to speak about the work that he and the team at Clover Press are doing. Tags; #CloverPress #BrunoRedondo #DCComics #Kickstarter #Interview

  • 'The DC Art of Bruno Redondo' Goes Live on Kickstarter

March 2nd 2026 After being revealed in January, Clover Press have now launched their Kickstarter campaign for The DC Art of Bruno Redondo , making it possible for fans of the artist to help fund the exciting new book while securing a copy for their own shelf. Those that enjoy Redondo's dynamic artwork can now head to the the campaign page to see the wide range of options available and pledge money to help the publisher fund the book. Amazingly, the goal of $10,000 was passed within 10 minutes of receiving the notification the page had gone live, with it being more than quadrupled within an hour, which is fantastic news for Clover Press. You can still back the project though until March 20th by visiting the campaign here - Kickstarter page . This is the second 'DC Art of' book and comes as a 9" x 12" hardcover with over 200 pages of artwork, a spot gloss cover, blue gilded pages and a cloth bookmark. This also matches the publisher's series of Marvel artbooks, all of which has been hugely successful and well-received by fans. This will give the excellent composition and bold use of colour found in Redondo's art the showcase it deserves. Clover Press have made the most of Kickstarter again and are offering a lot of exclusive extras that will not be available at retail, including a Dustjacket Edition, a Slipcase Editions, a book of Nightwing cover book, art prints, a sketchbook, stickers, and more. Below are some of the included options; A standard copy of the book - $75 A dustjacket edition - $85 A slipcase edition - $100 A slipcase edition + Nightwing cover book - $160 You can also add extras individually to fully customise your order to suit you, with prices seen here; The DC Art of Bruno Redondo is estimated to ship in July 2026 for those that back the book, with a retail release coming at a later date. If you have your eye on any of the extras seen above though, head to Kickstarter to grab them before March 20th, as only that standard edition of the book will be sold at bookstores and online. This new launch from Clover Press is more evidence that not only are people enjoying the books they create, but also that there is a healthy appetite for artbooks based on comic books and their artists. Though this is only the second DC Comics book following The DC Art of Jorge Jiménez , there will almost certainly be more with how big this launch has been. The Marvel series is heading into double digits with releases too, indicating that the publisher is more than happy to have an ongoing catalogue with the huge support they have seen. I interviewed Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz last year, in which he spoke about using Kickstarter and why they like it, which you can find here - Hank Kanalz Interview . Future updates on the book will be reported as they happen and head over the campaign page to get your own copy - Kickstarter page. Tags; #BrunoRedondo #Kickstarter #DCComics #CloverPress

  • Book Review - Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume III

March 8th 2026 The dark and deadly world of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring returns for another art showcase in the West, this time focused on the DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree . After being released in Japan in 2024, Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume III has now arrived in English and allows players to take in the visuals of the game without worrying about the brutal enemies standing in your way. Released on March 3rd 2026 from publisher Udon Entertainment, this is a localised version of the Kadokawa original and follows Volume I and Volume II , both of which covered the base game. A copy is now here for me to dive into and share my thoughts on! Build Quality Unlike the original, this version comes as a hardcover and that is always preferred, especially when it comes a high page count as seen here with 320 pages inside. It matches the 21.6cm x 30.2cm dimensions of the previous volumes and comes with a glossy cover. It feels well made and I appreciate the binding being as flexible as it is to allow the pages to lay flat without needing to be held down, something that can often be a criticism of books with a lot of pages. I am overall very happy with the physical quality of this release from Udon. Content It’s worth noting at this point that you need to know what you are buying, as artbooks can be different things. If you’re checking out this review, you may know what to expect as you have the previous volumes, if not though, keep in mind that while this does feature concept art, it’s presented as an illustration book, which may not be for everyone. Before getting into that though, you can’t review an artbook without speaking about the art itself, which in this case is superb. The environments are wonderfully detailed and contain a mix of bleak environments, decrepit structures, and gothic architecture, none of which would look out of place in a frame on a wall. The enemies and characters are also full of incredible designs, especially the bosses that contain the brutal, yet strangely captivating, style of the studio. If you enjoyed the visuals of the game when it wasn’t relentlessly trying to kill you, then you’ll enjoy the art here. Don’t expect any early sketches though, as I will now get into. Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume III presents ‘The Land of Shadow’ chapter with ‘Concept Art’ in the title, but in most books that would mean a look at a collection of unused and variations of designs. Unfortunately, FromSoftware don’t take this approach, so what you see across the book is very similar to, or almost exactly what you see in the game, with very few exceptions. It is a shame as there is no doubt a lot of very cool unused ideas they are hiding away, perhaps to use for a future release, but that’s why it is somewhat best to view this as an illustration book, as opposed to a look at the concept art. This is the case in each all of the chapters, from locations and enemies, to weapons and items. The pages for Grand Altar of Dragon Communion and Enir Ilim have fantastic pieces of artwork, but it isn't anything you haven’t seen in the game, and that is consistent throughout the 320 pages. For the enemies and characters you get poses at different angles, but lacking the concepts that didn’t get used as you can see in the photos in this review. This is most evident in the weapons and items chapters, in which they get a single image each and are my least favourite chapters as a result. This is because you almost certainly get a better look at them in the game, and although these are pieces of art and not models and final UI elements, they don’t add anything new for players. There are also no concepts or illustrations for moments of gameplay either, making the book very much focused on the designs of the world, inhabitants, and assets. There is nothing showing battles and encounters, how they envisioned the moment to moment gameplay, animations, or even the Tarnished wielding the weapons you can use. Perhaps the team didn't work on this type of art, but it something else worth pointing out as describing this as more of an illustration book may lead people to believe this would be included, as seen in other books. There are a few spreads of key art found at the start of the book though. If you’re expecting insights, you won’t find that either, in fact, I’m certain this review contains more words than the entire book. It’s for this reason I believe it is licensing that causes the books to take so long to come as English editions, because translating the book would not take long to do at all. It feels like another missed opportunity, which I will highlight more in the Use of Space part of the review shortly. Fans of the first two volumes and those buying this expecting a showcase of exceptional artwork for the game will like what they get here. However, if you’re hoping to see early unused designs and insights as seen in books for other games, this may not be for you. They had a specific goal in mind for this release and it's lost between being an 'Art of' book and a true illustration book, which for me personally is to its detriment. It's the talent of the artists that shines though, and it is an artbook after all, but it's down to individuals as to whether you like the final concepts enough to pick this one up, as there isn't much else to see. Credits Sadly there is no indication of who is responsible for each piece of artwork, which is consistent for the game studio. I hate to see this, but what is odd in this case is that they are listed in the back, but only in Japanese. The last page has the English Edition and Japanese Edition credits for the publisher, with the artists listed underneath. If it wasn’t for the fact that UI was the only part written in English, I wouldn’t have thought to check the translations at all, because they look like they are included as part the Kadokawa publishing credits. In a book with so little to translate, it isn’t great that this was overlooked. Use of Space This is the most frustrating part for me of Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume III , because you can see in the previews that space is wasted, especially for environment art. While the larger sizes of the images does well to show all of the details, it does leave some large empty areas as seen below. There is no reason the book couldn’t have included small insights or artists credits on the pages in these areas, which makes their omission worse than it could have been. There is a large page count to accommodate the fact that many pieces take up a full spread, but I’d personally prefer to see images made smaller to accommodate more artwork, the print quality would certainly allow for it. The binding does come into play here though, because the image loss in the centre fold is minimal and a huge improvement over the previous volumes that suffered from this a lot. This is great for a book with 320 pages, as more pages can often exacerbate the problem. I also like that the book includes all of DLC’s artwork instead of splitting it into two volumes again. Value This new release has an RRP of $59.99 or £53.99, putting it at the high end of the artbook pricing range, especially in the UK as it is the equivalent of around $72. I do think this is probably too high, because although the quality of the physical book is good, it is presenting itself as an illustration showcase while lacking the premium print and paper quality found in other books with the same goal. It also includes less content overall that an typical ‘Art of’ book, some of which match or exceed the print and build quality at a lower price. It finds itself in an awkward pricing spot as a result, so unless you’re a hardcore Elden Ring fan, searching for a discount is recommended. Good news then that discounts are already available less than a week after the book's release. Checking Amazon again for consistency, the books is 16% off in the US and 28% off in the UK at the time of writing this, which makes it much more appealing. At around $50 or £40, it puts it at what would have been a more reasonable RRP for the book and therefore easier to recommend. This isn’t a steal, but fans would do well to take advantage of price drops like these as and when they happen. Verdict Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume III is full of more incredible artwork from the team at FromSoftware that is finally here for English speaking fans. Those that own previous two entries will find more to enjoy from the artists, with some welcome improvements to the binding. Those that are new to the books may also enjoy seeing the artwork, but as it’s unlike most video game artbooks in its presentation and featured content, it would be recommended with a caution of what to expect. For me personally, I continue to enjoy the designs of the world the developers have created, but the page design from the original publisher Kadokawa continues to frustrate me as there a lot of missed opportunities here. A couple of chapters feel like page fillers and the price is a sticking point as well, leaving me feeling that a game as popular and well received as Elden Ring and the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC could have been better served. The art is exceptional, but as an artbook, I can’t help but feel they could have done so much more. The movies make up most of the book, delivering wonderful and colourful art that captures the essence of SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and the rest of the eclectic characters. It also highlights the art for the locations and backgrounds too, giving fans a lot to pore over. There are also some interesting insights from the creators and voice cast that add more details to the history of the the unique series. In my full review of the book I speak on how artwork is a joy to look through and that the early chapters details of the creation of the show are an engaging read. However, some releases getting a better look at the development art than others due to how much is fit into a single volume. Read about this and more here - Book Review . • Animation Studio Trigger Announce 'The Art of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners'

March 5th 2026 A new artbook has been revealed for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners , the award-winning animated series based on the hugely popular game Cyberpunk 2077 . The new book comes by way of Trigger, the Japanese studio behind the series, who has also shared a couple of previews of what you will find inside. The book was revealed on social media by the studio's official account along with news that it will be up for pre-order on their official store on Friday March 6th. It will be sold for 6600 yen, which is around $42 or £32, but there is no mention of shipping options or prices. However, there is a global store page for Trigger that sells books and other merch, so there is a good chance that those outside of Japan will get the chance to add the new release to their shelf as well. Check out that storefront here . The Art of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will come with 318 pages and 210mm x 257mm in size, making it slightly smaller than A4 but with more pages than a lot of artbooks. I'm unable to see whether this will be a hardcover or a paperback, though this will no doubt be confirmed on the 6th when the page goes live. Trigger have also shared the following preview pages on social media to give fans of the anime an idea of what to expect. They highlight artwork for the background and characters, with some early designs on show indicating this will showcase concept art, not just the final designs. There is no text featured, so don't expect to get insights into each design, although it doesn't rule out the inclusion of insights in the book's introduction or elsewhere. This does give the book an appeal to those outside of Japan as a result, because being light on text means that non-native speakers won't be left missing out on details with these pages. There is no word on if it will be translated into English at this time. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners  was released in 2022 on Netflix by Studio Trigger in partnership with the game's developer CD Projekt Red. It follows David Martinez, an underprivileged teenager in the neon metropolis of Night City, but following tragic events, uses cyberware to become an 'edgerunner'. Becoming a mercenary, he meets fellow edgerunners and find himself in the dangerous underworld of enhancements and corporations. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners  was received well by both critics and the general audience and became so successful that a second season was announced in July of 2025, despite being planned as a standalone series. Future news on the book will be shared here and be sure to head to the Trigger store on March 6th to secure a copy of the book for your own collection. • 'The Art of Octopath Traveler: 2020-2023' Arrives in English September 2026

March 4th 2026 Today publisher Dark Horse Books revealed that they have partnered with Square Enix to release a new book for JRPG fans to enjoy later later this year with The Art of Octopath Traveler: 2020-2023 . The new book will be an English translated edition for Japanese original from 2023. The 224-page hardcover will highlight the artwork and developer commentary behind Octopath Traveler II  and the series' prequel, Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent . Players will get to see the early artwork and beautiful key art for both of the titles when it arrives on September 1st 2026. The book was originally released in Japan in 2023 and this upcoming edition marks the first time it will be available in English. It is not the first volume to receive this treatment either, as Dark Horse were also the publisher behind The Art of Octopath Traveler: 2016-2020 in 2024. This book also included artwork for Champions of the Continent as well as the original game, making the upcoming release a direct continuation and perfect for collectors. Like the previous book, expect a showcase of the concepts and designs behind the characters, their in-game pixel art versions, locations, key moments, enemies, items, and more. The stunning visuals of the game began with the talent of the artists behind the series, with this being a fantastic collection of some of that work. Octopath Traveler is a turn-based RPG series from Acquire and Square Enix that began in 2018. Octopath Traveler II  was first released in 2023 and is now available on PC and console, continuing the “eight-path” structure that follows eight protagonists across its world of Solistia. The game delivered unique stories and abilities for the characters to compliment its strategic combat and exploration. Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent  is a free-to-play prequel released on mobile and set in Orsterra, before the events of the original game. It retains the single-player turn-based combat, but adds 'gacha' features found in other free games. Champions of the Continent was downloaded 3 million times in just 2 days, making it a hit for developer. More artbooks making their way to the West is never a bad thing and the appetite for them seems to have no end. Dark Horse are a prolific publisher of artbooks for video games in their own right, but have struck a partnership with Square Enix to help bring more to players through translated editions, including 2025's The Art of Bravely Default II: 201X-2021 , so it is likely more will be coming in the future. Future updates for The Art of Octopath Traveler: 2020-2023 will be shared here and expect retail listings for the book to become available very soon for pre-orders. • 'The Marvel Art of' Books for Mike Del Mundo & Tyler Kirkham Get New Release Dates

March 3rd 2026 'The Marvel Art of' series from publisher Clover Press has found huge success on Kickstarter, with each being successful in getting the books funded and later sold at retail. Two of these books, The Marvel Art of Tyler Kirkham and The Marvel Art of Mike del Mundo were previously listed online for a retail release this month, but new dates have moved them back in the release calendar. The new dates were spotted yesterday on Amazon, which previously had both books arriving on March 31st. I had reached out to the publisher in February before sharing this date on the latest News Roundup video and Upcoming Artbooks article. Unfortunately I didn't get a response and so shared the March date. Now though, The Marvel Art of Tyler Kirkham is set to release May 26th 2026 and The Marvel Art of Mike del Mundo is coming June 30th 2026. Release dates outside of the US can differ, but these have not been updated at this time as confirmed on multiple UK sites. The date given for the look at Kirkham's art is still listed as January 1st 2026, with del Mundo's showcase listed for May. Expect these to be updated in the near future with correct details. The series of artbooks come as high-quality hardcovers and feature over 200 pages with gilded edges, a cloth bookmark and a excellent print finish for the artwork. This makes them perfect for fans that want a premium book in their collection to collect some of the work of their favourite artists. Both Kirkham and del Mundo have an incredible portfolio of artwork and distinct styles, delivering stunning art for some of Marvel's greatest characters. Both titles blew past their funding goal of $10,000 on Kickstarter within hours, allowing them both to go into full production for their retail release. This will be for the standard edition though, but the crowdfunding campaigns from Clover Press allow backers to get exclusive editions and extras, including slipcases, prints, stickers, signed copies, and more, so it's always worth keeping an eye on their future projects. The most recent entry in the series, The Marvel Art of Dan dos Santos , was also successfully funded last month after making more than 10x the funding goal. Despite these release date setbacks, Clover Press have been on a fantastic run with the books and don't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. The appetite from Marvel fans wanting books dedicated to some of the best in the industry seemingly has no end, and this series is doing a great job at filling their shelves. You can check out a preview of an earlier entry, The Marvel Art of Alex Maleev , below to get an idea of what to expect. The latest project from Clover Press launched on Kickstarter yesterday for DC Comics, the second in the series and focused on artist Bruno Redondo. You can get more details on The DC Art of Bruno Redondo here. Future updates on the series will be reported here, as well as future artbook announcements from the publisher. • Book Review - SpongeBob SquarePants: The Art of an Undersea World

March 3rd 2026 More than 25 years after his debut in 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants became a multi-generational hit with his adventures in Bikini Bottom and eclectic group of friends. Any fan will immediately break out in song just from hearing “Are ye ready, kids?”, and the voices are iconic in the cartoon space. You can’t have a cartoon without the artwork though, which can now be fully explored in the new book SpongeBob SquarePants: The Art of an Undersea World . The book was released by publisher IDW Publishing on March 3 rd and celebrates the long history of everyone’s favourite sponge through art. A copy has now joined the collection, so I can let you know what to expect from this new release. Build Quality This release comes as a 24.2cm x 28.5cm hardcover and with 416 pages, making it a larger artbook compared to most. The publisher opted for thinner paper than found in most artbooks though, likely to prevent issues with the weight on the binding, so it’s not too much thicker than other titles with 250 pages or less. I don’t mind this in practice, because larger books can have pages become loose over time and the pages don’t always fully open up. However, despite the paper choice, the pages still don’t lay flat because there is no flexibility in the binding and this does have an impact on some of the artwork as you will shortly see. What I do love about this book though, even before it arrived, is the cover art. It perfectly encapsulates the fun and colourful nature of SpongeBob and having him creating his own artwork is perfectly themed, making this one of my favourite covers in the collection. As a side note, the book was delivered without a plastic shrink wrap and although better for the environment, in a cold and damp climate of somewhere like here in the UK, it warps the pages as seen below. Those that have experienced this know how much of a pain it is to correct the wavy effect, if it can be at all. If you live in a colder climate, it’s worth keeping this in mind. Content The Art of an Undersea World features artwork and insights for not just the show, but the movies and spin-offs too, covering the weird and wonderful adventures of SpongeBob, Patrick, Gary, Squidward, and more from 1999 to 2025. There is a lot to cover which ends up being both a positive and a negative. It starts with the inception of SpongeBob, what was once called ‘ SpongeBoy, Ahoy! ’, from creator Stephen Hillenburg, showcasing some early concepts that are great to see from as early as 1996. It highlights Hillenburg’s early life and career, before getting into the creation of the show, from funding to making the pilot with the voice cast. It includes interviews with artists, writers, and voice actors for an engaging look at its inception. From here it focuses on the art, beginning with the original show. Here you get some early sketches, a few drawing guides, line art, final designs, and final stills for the main characters. SpongeBob and Patrick get a couple of spreads each with the others coming with just one, alongside notes on their characters with more interviews with the creators and cast as well. The artwork is fantastic and shows the designs that help make the characters special, including some that don’t look like the final result. However, it does feel like a missed opportunity to show more of the unused concepts from the earliest history of the characters, because most are what we all recognise. The wider cast of recurring characters, such as Flying Dutchman and Larry the Lobster, get between half a page and a full page each, but lack the early sketches seen before. These pages feature line art and final designs only for the most part, with the exception of some small storyboards, but this is an unfortunate result of covering so much in one book. Locations fair much better with some nice concept art and maps of Bikini Bottom, though some places again only showcase what you have seen in the show. It’s a similar situation for sections for The Patrick Star Show and Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years , although the latter includes 3D models as well. Some more early concepts would have been nice to see, but there is only so much space in the book and so it would be hard to fit them all in, but to have very little is disappointing. The movie chapter covers 6 releases; The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie , The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water , SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run , Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie , Plankton: The Movie , and 2025’s The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants . There is a better mix of artwork, with more concepts shared for each release, particularly for the more recent movies, and 3D models shown for those that used it as well. It’s here you get the best showcase of the art that makes the shows and movies great to watch, with the character designs that are inventive and full of personality, wonderful key frame concepts that capture the essence of SpongeBob, the unique locations, and some assets too. The early drawings of expressions and animation as seen below is the stuff that’s always a joy to see and so I was happy more of it was included in this chapter. Over 100 pages are dedicated to Search for SquarePants , making it my favourite part of the book as a result. With so much more space to dive into the work of the artists, you get a lot more development art, from unused designs to movie beats that capture the tone of a scene. There are a lot more full-colour pieces for key moments too, that while not final, look just as good as what you get on screen, just with a more painterly style that shows off the talent of the team. Many of these will likely be favourite pieces for readers of the book. There isn’t a huge amount of reading to do after the early chapters of the book, but more interview quotes from the teams are sprinkled throughout for some insights into the shows and movies. This includes lore of the characters and locations, but also intentions and ideas behind the stories and designs. With so much to fit in, I like that they didn’t flood the book with text and kept it very art focused. Small notes are also included on each page to describe the artwork too, such as what they depict and at what stage of production they are, from conceptual to a final frame. Credits The artist credits are not shown on each page, so it’s not possible to know which artist created each image. I tend to give more leeway on this for books that cover a long history of a series or franchise though, as the information may not be available for artwork created over 20 years ago. What IDW did do though that I appreciate, is list artists on the last page with the following note; “ The publisher has to the best of its ability identified and credited those artists whose work is features in this volume .”. This is a thoughtful approach in a situation where they did not have all the information available and I like that they included it. Use of Space Despite having over 400 pages, there is still a huge amount to fit in to cover so much SpongeBob, so it’s a good thing that the designers made the most of each spread and didn’t waste the space available to them. Pages are full of artwork and insights with clear layout designs and a balanced use of pieces that take up a full page. Backgrounds are kept simple which always works well when there is very little empty space as it keeps them from becoming distracting. The team at IDW have done an excellent job in this regard. One of the things that holds this book back though is the binding as mentioned before. Without the flexibility that allows the pages to lay flat, there is more image loss in the centre fold than is ideal. Of course, this only has an impact on double page spreads and some fare better than others, but as the focal point is often in the middle of the art, it can spoil them. It’s a tough problem to avoid and there are trade-offs with more flex in the binding, such as the potential for page signatures to separate over time, but there are ways of working around this like picking art that has less of a focal point on the centre line. Below is an example. Value This release comes with an RRP of $49.99 or £45, which is the norm in the US, although more expensive in the UK at the equivalent of around $60 due to exchange rates. In the US you are getting a lot packed in for the same price as books with half the number of pages, making it very reasonable from a value perspective. A price drop is recommended more for UK fans though. Good news then that discounts are already available for the book, with a 10% reduction on Amazon US and a huge 37% off on the UK site. This brings the book below £30 and hugely improves the value for money and makes it much easier to recommend. Discounts come and go, but does show that you can find yourself a very good price point, even at release. Verdict SpongeBob SquarePants: The Art of an Undersea World is a mixed bag when it comes to how I feel about it. Some sections are superb and showcase early concepts and art that holds the personality of the show that captured the hearts of many. However, other sections lack the same range of images, only highlighting the developed designs. It does a good job at covering SpongeBob’s history, but that does mean some releases get more of a focus than others. Overall, despite some issues, fans will find a lot to enjoy in this book’s charming artwork and creator insights, making it a nice addition to the shelf. For those interested in the concept and development art it boasts in the description on the back of the book, it’s a little more hit and miss, but sections that do include it make up for those that don’t. It’s easy to recommend to those that watched the shows and all of the movies. If you only watched the original show, you'll likely still find yourself enjoying the wonderful artwork of the newer releases as well. The 240-page hardcover was published by Titan Books on February 17th 2026, coming in the same format as the artbook for the first game, The Art of Death Stranding . Not only does it match in size, but it also comes with gilded edges and page interiors too, this time with bronze to give it a premium feel. Check out the preview below. Inside is a look at the concept art from the fan favourite Art Director Yoji Shinkawa and his team for the characters, technology, vehicles, enemies, locations, and weapons, giving players a look at the early designs behind the world of the game. It shares a lot of unused designs too, including a battle suit for Fragile, a katana wielding Tomorrow, and vehicles that didn't get added. There's not much to read, but some of the pages share some interesting design insights. In my review I talk about how I enjoyed the range of both art styles and stages of development on show, as well as the production quality of the book. It's a design focused book that is light on keyframe and gameplay moment concepts which is worth keeping in mind too. You can read my full review here - Book Review . Death Stranding 2: On the Beach  from director Hideo Kojima continues the story of Sam Bridges in a post-apocalyptic world plagued by supernatural forces. Taking what made the first game a hit with fans, the sequel introduces players to new environments, threats, and characters, along with more traversal, stealth, and action gameplay. The game was released on PlayStation 5 in 2025 and arrives on PC on March 19th 2026. You can also check out a flip through of the first book, The Art of Death Stranding , here . • 'Genshin Impact: Official Art Book Vol. 3' Arrives October 2026 in English

February 25th 2026 Players in the West of the wildly popular game Genshin Impact will get to enjoy some more artwork for the game very soon, as the third artbook for the free-to-play action game is being released in English in October 2026. Genshin Impact: Official Art Book Vol. 3 was originally released last year in Chinese with the above cover and can be bought as an import, although it's hard to pin down exactly when it released, as different sites have different details. In the case of Amazon Japan that has the previous volumes, a completely different title and no original release date has been listed. The new listings for its English edition, shared on social media by Wario64 , aren't much more clear with its release, as seen on Amazon US , France, Germany, and the UK . The American listing has the book coming on October 13th which makes it the most reliable, because Tuesdays are the normal day for a book release. In Europe it is detailed as coming on October 8th, though this could always change to match. The page count of 212 and Expanse acting as the publisher is consistent in all listings and it is being sold with an RRP of $35 or £30, the lower end of pricing for an artbook. The original had 205 pages and it is currently unknown what the extra pages will contain, or if the new listings are using placeholders, as could be the case based on the title including a description for the book. Genshin Impact: Official Art Book Vol. 3 includes artwork from version 3.0 to 3.8, covering the characters, monsters, keyframes, and locations. It's worth noting for those unfamiliar with the books that this is not an 'Art of' style release with concept art, it is very much an illustration book showcasing the talent of the artists behind each piece, as opposed to the early and unused designs. Genshin Impact has maintained a huge player base since its launch in 2020, with around 5 million daily active users jumping into its open world to this day. The role-playing game was developed by miHoYo and gives fans the ability to switch between four characters in their party to take on enemies and explore Teyvat, but also allows up to four friends to play together across different platforms. The game is now on version 6.4, so it is very likely more artbooks are on the way. • 'The Art of Final Fantasy Tactics' English Edition Coming November 2026

February 23rd 2026 Square Enix released a look back at the art for the Final Fantasy Tactics games last year in Japan, with an English edition expected to release at a later date as is tradition for the company. This version has now been confirmed as The Art of Final Fantasy Tactics is confirmed coming to the West later this year. The Art of Final Fantasy Tactics cover art The book is arriving on November 10th and now that the Japanese version is out, we know that the book comes with 128 pages of art, but unlike that edition, this will come as a hardcover and not a paperback, which is much better for book preservation. It is arriving just after a year after the original, a release gap that is not unusual for video game artbooks from Japanese developers. Inside it features artwork for the original Final FantasyTactics game from 1997, the 2007 PSP release, The War of the Lions , and the remastered version of the game, The Ivalice Chronicles from 2025. This includes artwork for the characters, jobs, and maps, as well as illustrations used in collaboration projects. It is A4 in size which matches the other Final Fantasy artbooks, including The Art of Final Fantasy XVI . Final Fantasy Tactics was developed and published by Square Enix for the original PlayStation in 1997 and is set in Ivalice with protagonist Ramza Beoulve. The game uses grid-based maps to create strategic turn-based gameplay that utilizes the environment. In 2007 it was re-released on PSP as Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions , adding in-game cutscenes, widescreen support, new characters, items, jobs, and multiplayer. In September of 2025, The Ivalice Chronicles added improved visuals, voice acting and accessibility options. You can watch a preview of the previous artbook from the studio, The Art of Final Fantasy XVI , below. • 'Masters of the Universe: The Art of the Film' Revealed for September 2026

February 23rd 2026 Masters of the Universe is headed to the big screen this summer, with a live-action adaptation from director Travis Knight, exciting fans of the long-running series and likely to create new ones too. No stranger to the world of merch, Mattel are giving the movie the artbook treatment, with a new release coming later this year with Masters of the Universe: The Art of the Film ! Cover art for the upcoming book Coming from Mattel's own publishing arm Mattel Press, the new book is set for release on September 22nd 2026 and will come as a 224 page hardcover with a dustjacket. Inside readers will get to pore over artwork for the movie, as well as interviews with the crew for deeper insights into the latest take on He-Man, Skeletor, and the world of Eternia. It is authored by Dan Jolin, who has penned multiple books about movies and directors, and the foreword come from Travis Knight. Below is the official description of the book; "This definitive visual chronicle invites fans into the world of Masters of the Universe 2026 film — from its earliest conception to its vibrant, action-packed final form. Perfectly giftable in its stunning foiled and jacketed hardcover format; it’s the missing piece to any collector’s library! Author Dan Jolin documents every major stage of production: from initial conversations with the producers about how to honor the legacy of the classic toys and animated series; to the design studios where the re-imagined costumes for Prince Adam / He-Man, Teela, and their allies were forged; to the dark citadels of Skeletor and his sinister entourage. With rich, full-color imagery and unprecedented behind-the-scenes access, learn how the world of Eternia was rebuilt for the 21st century — from the hulking arm-cannon of Trap Jaw to the swirling mystic forces of The Sorceress." The book is available to pre-order in the US on sites that includes Amazon , with more listings expected to appear soon elsewhere. There are no page previews for the book, so it is unclear as to whether this will be a concept art focused book, or one that includes a lot of on-set photography as well, as seen in many movie 'Art of' volumes. It also comes with an RRP of $60 in the US, which is at the higher end for artbooks, but not outside the expected pricing in 2026 either. It will also hit shelves just over 3 months after the movie premiers, which is a good thing for those wanting more after the credits roll, because it is shorter gap than a lot of tie-in books. Future updates on Masters of the Universe: The Art of the Film will be shared here and be sure to keep an eye on your go to bookstore to place a pre-order when the option becomes available. • Book Review - The Art of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

February 23rd 2026 Death Stranding made a return in 2025, allowing players to take the role of Sam Bridges again with more scenery to admire and strange enemies to take on. The games from Hideo Kojima are anything but conventional, but fortunately he works with talented artists that can bring these visions to life, as seen in the newly released book, The Art of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach ! The book is now available after being released on February 17th 2026 by Titan Books, publisher of the artbook for the first game with The Art of Death Stranding . But does it, pardon the pun, deliver ? A copy has now joined collection so I break down what to expect and give my thoughts. Build Quality This new release matches the first Death Stranding artbook, coming as a 31cm x 28cm hardcover with a dustjacket and 240 pages, making it a very large. The paper, print, and binding quality is all very good and the edges of the pages, as well as some of the interior, are gilded in bronze, the same way the first book was done in gold. Under the dustjacket is a plain black cover with a spot-varnished title. This all comes together to create a well-made book that looks great too, so a good start for Titan Books. Content People that own artbooks will know that there is a wide variety in what you can get in these releases, with this one coming light on text to read and filling the pages with art, as seen in the photos. The book covers the characters, enemies, vehicles, weapons, and locations, everything you expect to see in a video game artbook and it works well in balancing each of these. Text comes in the form of short paragraphs that can simply describe what you are seeing on the page, or give some behind the scenes insights. These include early ideas and game design notes, such as envisioning Tomorrow with a katana, having to design the back of Sam’s suit as he can remove his backpack, and concepting a mech suit for Fragile. Fans will find some nice details here and there amongst the artwork, but as it is design focused, don’t expect a development history or interviews. The Art of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has a wonderful range of artwork, from styles to different stages of designs. Yoji Shinkawa is back as the Art Director, delivering his unique style that somehow manages to be loose, yet detailed, and bold, yet painterly, art that is always a joy to see. His team also have concepts that can be highly detailed with clean lines, a little more rough around the edges, or created as 3D models too, making the spreads more engaging throughout. What I really like is that the book features early sketches, thumbnails, and animation exploration among the full colour pieces for all of the chapters, some of which are featured as part of the background. Fans of the game will enjoy seeing the variety and the designs that didn’t get used, but are equally as impressive as what is seen in the game. Whether it be for the main cast, the BTs, or the brutalist style of the architecture that would look at home in Dune  or Blade Runner , I thoroughly enjoyed what was included. There is a lot that stood out in this volume, such as the weapons pages that include concepts from sketches to 3D models, which is more than you get in a lot of artbooks. There isn’t a lot of keyframes or story moments shown though, with the designs being the focal point, but some are included for the BTs. There are also many pieces that focus on boots and gloves for different characters, something that stood out as interesting as it’s typically heads and torsos that get a separate focus. The section for the Ghost Mechs was a favourite part for me personally because of the intricate details in their designs. Credits Sadly, the credits are not featured on each page, so it’s not clear who is responsible for the pieces of artwork. The last page, as seen below, does list the members of the art team, so they aren’t excluded entirely which is good. Use of Space The Art of Death Stranding 2 does an excellent job with the page design, filling the spreads up but not overcrowding them either. The large dimensions of the book allow even the smaller images to get a strong showcase, also helped by the print quality. The backgrounds are kept simple, with 3 block colours used at most and the occasional sketch featured behind the art on the page. The less is more approach works well and the bronze sections on the page are reflective too, giving the book a premium feel. Overall, the team at Titan Books have helped Kojima Productions show off their artwork effectively while fitting a lot in. Value The hardcover has an RRP of $50/£40, which is the norm for a video game artbook in 2026. For the size and production quality, including the gilded paper edges that you rarely see in a standard edition, this is good value for money. However, that of course improves if you can find a discount, which there are some already available on the week of release. Using Amazon as I always do for these reviews, the book is 20% off in the US and 25% off in the UK at the time of writing this, putting it under $40/ £30. Anything below the RRP is a great price, so bargain hunters finding the book as low as this will be getting themselves a very good deal. Verdict The Art of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is an impressive collection of artwork for the hit game, delivering a variety of art and a lot of unused concepts. The art styles are often distinct, especially for the characters, which when combined with the unique world and designs for the game, made my time with the book engaging from cover to cover. This is a superb volume of concept art that comes highly recommended for fans of Death Stranding and even sci-fi art in general. • 'The Art of Avatar: Fire and Ash' Cover and New Release Date Revealed

February 20th 2026 The upcoming artbook for the third instalment of Avatar has had new updates, exciting fans that are looking forward to seeing the concept art behind the visual powerhouse. The Art of Avatar: Fire and Ash was revealed here in December following an early listing for the book, but this new update has replaced the placeholder cover with the official artwork, as well as changing the release date. You can see the new cover with art from Dylan Cole below. The upcoming hardcover from publisher DK is now coming July 21st 2026, moving it back in the month after the original listing gave it a July 2nd release. Dates often change in the artbook world as many readers and collectors will know, so this is not unexpected and may have also been an early placeholder. The 272 page count and description remains the same though, and it comes with an RRP of $50 or £35, both of which are very reasonable for a book of this size. Previews have also been shared online, which you can see below; These updates can also be taken as an official announcement, because when the book listing was reported in December, it wasn't available to view on most websites, with some only showing the book in search results using the ISBN number. To add to this, it has also now been shared on social media by the movie's production designer Dylan Cole. The official description is as follows; "Explore the magnificent behind-the-scenes artwork underpinning James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. Discover how crucial scenes were conceived and marvel at the incredible attention to detail that the Avatar artists brought to the development of new characters like Varang, leader of the fearsome Ash People, and aerial creatures like the medusoid and windray. Hundreds of spectacular images convey all the power, beauty, and intricate detail with which the Avatar film franchise has enthralled millions all over the world. Written in full collaboration with James Cameron’s production company Lightstorm, Art of Avatar: Fire and Ash provides a unique window into a visionary movie universe." Avatar: Fire and Ash  has made over $1.4 billion at the box office, continuing the series' huge success. The visual effects and visual design are incredible, possible in no small part because of the talented artists working with James Cameron and Wētā Workshop. If the previous book, The Art of Avatar: The Way of Water, and the previews are anything to go by, this will be another excellent addition to the shelves of fans. Dylan Cole also released a s superb artbook last year, Creating Worlds: The Disney and 20th Century Studios Cinematic Art of Dylan Cole , which also includes artwork for the first Avatar and The Way of Water , among other movies. The book contains concept art for the costumes, locations, key frames, vehicles, technology, and more for the movie, boasting a huge amount of images to enjoy. • 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art of the Movie' Revealed in New Listing

February 18th 2026 Marvel fans have another artbook to look forward to for the long running series from Marvel Studios, as a new listing has appeared online that will deliver a look at the artwork behind Peter Parker's upcoming adventure in Spider-Man: Brand New Day . Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art of the Movie is now on the site of Penguin Random House, with a live page available on Barnes and Noble , as well as on Amazon US via a ISBN number search. This comes with details on the book, including a release date of August 4th 2026, while also using the below placeholder image. There are three details of note, first the release date, then the price and page count, which I will break down here. August 4th 2026 is less than a week after the movie's July 31st premier, which would make this a very short gap between the two releases. While this may be the intention of the Marvel-published book, this would be odd, given that Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art of the Movie came over three months after the movie, but was still one of the shortest gaps in recent years, with others coming six months to two years after the project they are based on. They have been closing the gap with the movie artbooks, but this could indicate it is a placeholder date. It's always worth noting, as has been reported an endless amount of times on this site, Marvel miss their original dates, having delayed (or cancelled in a couple of cases) the last 27 books in a row, so take this new date with a big pinch of salt. Next is the pricing and the 224-page count, which indicates that this is not going to be a 'Deluxe Edition' as seen with First Steps , one that added a small booklet, but also 32 extra pages. Prior to this, all Multiverse Saga artbooks have been capped at 224 pages, as this one is, which is good news for fans as that increase came with a huge price tag of $150. The price for Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art of the Movie is just $50, which also signals that this won't have a slipcase either, which were added for the movie books starting with Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine: The Art of the Movie , which saw the price rise to $100. Fans may be split on this, as while some enjoyed the value the slipcase added, others saw this as a steep increase from $60 to include it with 5 prints. With this coming even under that price point, it could be that Marvel are reverting back to the older format again. The official description of the book is also included; "Marvel Studios is proud to present the latest volume in its acclaimed Art of the Movie series as Spider-Man swings back onto the silver screen! Four years have gone by since we last caught up with our friendly neighborhood hero. Peter Parker is no more, but Spider-Man is at the top of his game keeping New York City safe. Things are going well for our anonymous hero until an unusual trail of crimes pulls him into a web of mystery larger than he’s ever faced before. In order to take on what’s ahead, Spider-Man not only needs to be at the top of his physical and mental game, but he must also be prepared to face the repercussions of his past! As Spider-Man: Brand New Day wows moviegoers the world over, discover the behind-the-scenes magic of the film’s visual development—from early concept sketches to final character designs. Explore environments, costumes, and exclusive insights from the next chapter for Marvel’s neighborhood hero!" A preview of Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art of the Movie All of these details could change, as they often do in the artbook world, which includes this ongoing series for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Placeholders are very common and these are the earliest listings, with other sites not having it available yet at all. No doubt more updates are to come, but this is at least confirmation that the book is coming, as predicted in a list at the start of the year here - New Artbook Predictions for 2026 . From the perspective of someone that reviews and covers the series, releasing the books without the slipcases is a smart move, especially for one based on one of the most popular characters in the MCU in Spider-Man, because the pricing makes it much more accessible for fans. The prior price increases were too high from a value perspective and left many passing on them, or waiting for discounts. The release date is also hard to believe based on the last 27 releases, but it would be fantastic if they managed to hit it. Future changes to Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art of the Movie will be reported here, and those interested can read reviews for the series below, including the re-releases of the Infinity Saga books from Titan Books. Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga – Black Panther: The Art of the Movie Marvel Studios’ The Infinity Saga – Thor: Ragnarok – The Art of the Movie Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps – The Art of the Movie Marvel Studios’ The Infinity Saga – Spider-Man: Homecoming – The Art of the Movie Marvel Studios’ The Infinity Saga – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: The Art of the Movie Marvel Studios' Loki: Season Two - The Art of the Series Marvel Studios’ The Infinity Saga – Doctor Strange: The Art of the Movie Marvel Television's Agatha All Along: The Art of the Series Tags; #Marvel #MarvelStudios #SpiderMan #MarvelCinematicUniverse #SonyPictures

  • Book Review - Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History (Revised and Expanded Edition)

February 16th 2026 Great Scott, Back to the Future is over 40 years old! The trilogy of movies are iconic classics that have gone on to be adapted into other mediums, creating fans across multiple generations. To mark the milestone, a look back at the franchise is now available in an updated book, Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History (Revised and Expanded Edition) ! This re-release of the 2015 book from Insight Editions and Titan Books delivers the same content found in the original, with additional pages to include more on Back to the Future since its release. This makes the book the most comprehensive deep dive to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Marty and Doc’s adventures across time. Titan Books have kindly provided a copy, so I can share my thoughts on the new book that has a February 17th 2026 release date! Build Quality It comes as a 24cm x 28.5cm hardcover, with 272 pages of insights and imagery, making it a hefty book. The binding is strong and does an excellent job of providing enough flexibility to make the pages lay flat with ease as well. Also inside are some thoughtful physical extras that I will touch on shortly. The cover has an embossed and spot varnished logo and DeLorean, a nice touch that gives it a more premium feel. The production quality, including the print finish, is very good all round and won’t leave fans disappointed. Content There is a huge amount included across the book’s pages, giving fans a lot to read about the series, as well as images to enjoy too. This really is the definitive book for those that love Back to the Future because it shares so much, including the highs and lows and leaving no stone left unturned. It begins with background of creators Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis, before getting into how the first film came to fruition. From inception, to being dropped and finding life again, casting, and more, the fascinating history of how Back to the Future started is shared in full and is an engaging read. Author Michael Klastorin does a wonderful job throughout, delivering a huge amount of detail between the interviews with the cast and crew. The book highlights the shoots of each movie by breaking them down into weeks, starting in November of 1984, which includes filming with Eric Stoltz before he was replaced by Michael J. Fox. Within this pages you learn about the challenges faced by the cast and crew, the locations, and even the business side of what was happening. It’s impossible to highlight here the full range of insights that you can read about, because it’s a truly impressive and detailed breakdown of the movies that fans will appreciate. As well as the trilogy, a large part of the book looks at the history of Back to the Future: The Ride , the animated series, the music, merch, and more, with the same level of care. The story of Marty and Doc expands beyond the screen and this book celebrates that as well, highlighting the impact the time-travelling adventures have had on pop culture. Of course, this is the ‘ Revised and Expanded Edition ’, so more has been added to mark the 40-year milestone. Added to the book are events and releases that have happened since 2015, including the documentary Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie being released, the musicals in the UK, Broadway, and Japan, and new merchandise like an updated Lego DeLorean. This new edition of Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History is perfect for fans new and old to get lost in four decades of cinema history. As the titles indicates, this is a visual guide, which means there are a lot of images inside to pore over as well. Most of this is made up of production photos, from days on set, to the cast of the stage productions. Pages are littered with these as you can see in the previews and will give film buffs a lot to enjoy. Alongside this is concept art too, with sketches of characters, the DeLorean, sets, and even the amusement park ride. Seeing early and unused designs is always a highlight of a book for me personally, so I was very happy to see so much included. The final and concept posters from artist Drew Struzan also stood out as a favourite part of the book. Other images cover casting call sheets, script pages, and storyboards, adding to the range of insights. Something that I also really liked was the physical extras that are found inside. These are items that have been placed within the pages to really cement the book as something special for fans. A lenticular photo of Marty McFly and his family, the envelope with “ Do not open until 1985 ”, a Biff dollar note, a movie poster, and other extras didn’t need to be included as there is so much here already, but they are a superb addition from the publishers. The below preview shows one of these inclusions. Credits Continuing the positivity of the review is the use of notes on every page for the images. Photos are given a description of what you are seeing and the person or studio responsible for the artwork is credited too. You can’t ask for much more than this and it’s always great to see it done in this way. Use of Space As you can see in the photos, the book is packed with images and text to read on every page. The designers have left no space wasted without overwhelming the reader either. The backgrounds are kept clean and this always works best in a book that has so much included, because it doesn’t become distracting or create a mess. The book is far from small with 272 pages, but I’m happy to see the team still got the most out of each page. Value This updated version of the book has an RRP of $74/ £54.99, putting it at the higher end of companion books. However, this is a large book and includes some physical extras as well, justifying the higher price tag. Taking into account this, the production quality and the sheer amount of content shared in its pages, fans won’t feel stung ordering at the full price. At the time of writing this just before its February 17th release, there are no discounts on Amazon, the site I check for my reviews. However, discounts frequently come and go and it’s always worth keeping an eye our for sales. If you can’t wait though and love Back to the Future, you will still find good value here. Verdict Back to the Future: The Ultimate Visual History (Revised and Expanded Edition) takes the already excellent book and updates it with yet more interesting details to mark the 40th anniversary of the DeLorean’s first trip into the past. From the conception of the first movie, to the animated show and modern collectibles, this is an outstanding volume of insights, photos and artwork that will take you on your own adventure through time.
