  • 'Giger's Alien' Is Getting A 2026 Reprint

January 9th 2026 "In space, no one can hear you scream." The tagline of 1979's Alien from Ridley Scott is still famous over 40 years later. On Earth though, the excitement for the return of Giger's Alien can and should be heard by everyone, because the book is making its return in 2026. Artist H.R. Giger, famous for his biomechanical paintings and sculptures, was behind the design of the Xenomorph, one of the most iconic creature in all of media. Giger's Alien explores his sketches and paintings when creating the visual design for the movie, as well as set photos and stills for the creatures debut in the original movie. Originally published in 1979, the book is making its return on September 1st 2026 from publisher Titan Books. Spotted on the website of the publisher, the 80-page hardcover will give fans old and new a chance to see the Academy-Award winning artist's work that went into creating the instantly recognizable horror legend. It also comes with photos of the set design for Alien , along with insights into the production of the movie. All this makes it perfect for fans of the film, the Xenomorph, and Giger, especially those that missed out on the original book and want to avoid the high prices on second-hand book markets. Reprints of older artbooks are always worth celebrating, especially as they don't happen too often, causing many books to become difficult to come by or very expensive. If any book is going to get this treatment though, one based on the incredible visual design from Giger for a horror classic is a no-brainer for the publisher. Giger's Alien comes with an RRP of $50/ £39.99 and should become available to pre-order online soon. While the book was spotted on the Titan Books website, searching retailer listings only pulls up results for older versions of the book. However, searching via the ISBN number does find the book on Amazon UK , which has it listed as unavailable at this time. Perhaps after an official announcement, it will appear on more sites for fans to place orders. H.R. Giger is a Swiss artist that created dark biomechanical paintings and sculptures, sometimes including horror and sexually suggestive imagery. Known best for his work on Alien , he has a large catalogue of work that also includes album covers, paintings, a bar, and a unique microphone stand for the band Korn. Giger passed away in 2014, but continues to be hugely influential today and will likely be for many more years to come. His work has been shared in many artbooks outside of this one, so it's not difficult for fans to add some of his otherworldly art to their shelves. Future updates on Giger's Alien will be shared here, but keep an eye out in the meantime for listings on retailer websites so you can place a pre-order for its September 1st release date. Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga - Thor: Ragnarok - The Art of the Movie is the most recent release in the ongoing series that shit shelves on December 5th 2025. Thor: Ragnarok hit the cinemas in 2017 and changed the tone of the Thor movies, adding much more comedy into the storytelling under director Taika Waititi. It saw the return of not just Thor himself, but Loki and the Hulk, with new faces that include Hela, Valkyrie, and Grandmaster, with new locations too. The Marvel Art of Dan dos Santos can be backed on the platform now and in just an hour has already quadrupled its funding goal. This is another huge success for the publisher and the book will now go into full production to be sold at retail. The campaign goal was $10,000 and flew past that in a similar fashion to the previous books. Those that also want to secure a copy of the book can still do so on Kickstarter until January 30th by visiting the page here - Kickstarter page . The book comes as a 9" x 12" hardcover and over 200 pages of art, a spot gloss cover, red gilded edging and a cloth bookmark. This is the same format as the previous releases, meaning this will not only continue their high quality, but will be perfect for collectors wanting a full matching set. This quality also seen in the print finish too, giving the colourful artwork of Dan dos Santos the showcase it deserves. Inside will feature Marvel Masterpieces art, commissions, unseen material, and more. As seen before, Clover Press has made multiple options available for The Marvel Art of Dan dos Santos , with additional extras for those interested. Below are some of the included options; A standard copy of the book - $75 A dustjacket edition - $85 A slipcase edition - $100 A signed slipcase edition + - $155 A signed slipcase edition + sketchbook and prints - $215 Add-ons can also be placed on an order too for some extra goodies, such as prints, stickers, additional copies of the book, a puzzle, and more. This is another fantastic Kickstarter campaign from the publisher that takes full advantage of the platform, allowing people to have more flexibility with their pledge. The Marvel Art of Dan dos Santos is expected to ship in June 2026 for backers, and later for the retail release. However, if you are hoping to get anything but the standard edition, be aware that these won't be available outside of the campaign. Dan dos Santos is an illustrator that has worked with Marvel Comics on their Marvel Masterpieces, creating oil paintings for a full set of 135 trading cards, some of which will be shared in this new book. His incredible paintings has made him more than worthy of getting the spotlight in this new showcase. Clover Press have proved again that this series is popular with comic book fans wanting a high-quality volume of work from their favourite artists. A copy of one of their books is here in the collection and impressed with the production quality of the book that displays fantastic art. • The Highs and Lows of Artbooks in 2025

January 7th 2026 2025 was a fantastic year for artbooks that brought many incredible releases to fill shelves and empty wallets. Not everything is perfect either though, as expected with any space within books or entertainment. I wanted to to look back at some of the highs and lows of 2025, with some personal thoughts on where the artbook space is as we begin a new year! High - Too Many Great Books This is the obvious one and what it's all about, the books themselves! I added 44 new releases to the collection here in 2025 and more than a few were not only great, but new favourites too. I won't list them all, but many artbooks were not good at just one thing, but ticked all the boxes of what I hope to see; well-made, a fantastic mix of content, excellent page design, good value for money, and of course, stunning artwork. When picking a favourite for the year there can be a few standouts, but 2025 provided a larger selection from multiple publishers, which is fantastic for fans and collectors. The Art of Star Wars Outlaws ultimately got my top pick in The Artbook Collector 2025 Awards , but there were many that are highly recommended. Check out reviews for some here and visit the Reviews page for more; Creating Worlds: The Cinematic Art of Dylan Cole Starfield Visual Compendium The Art of Assassin's Creed Shadows Outer Wilds: Design Works The Art of Jusant The Art of DOOM: The Dark Ages Sea of Stars: Throes of the Watchmaker: The Concept Art of Bryce Kho Low - Endless Delays As you will have noticed if you're a regular visitor, delays are very common and at times I'm reporting more delays than announcements. It's an unfortunate situation in which I write about a new book reveal with a release date, but I simply don't believe it will stick. This is across multiple publishers too, indicating a problem within the book industry. It has been explained to me that there are a huge list of reasons why a book can be delayed, but when it's happening to the vast majority of them, it's hard to feel that's acceptable when it's not improving. Games and movies are hit with outrage after a delay, but they don't happen anywhere near as often as the artbooks based on them and as it's done almost always in silence, people often don't notice. My hope is that delays will happen less frequently, but there's no indication that will be the case. Artbooks are simply announced too soon and given a date 4-8 months out, but often within just a month or two, they are already pushed back further. Without insider knowledge, I can only speculate they are revealed early to start getting pre-orders in early and need a specific date to be listed on sites like Amazon. Smaller publishers sometimes give a month or quarter instead of a date, avoiding the issue, but these can be missed at times too. Half of the 2025 books reviewed on this site arrived in the last few months of the year as a result of many delays, with multiple books from the same publisher even coming out on the same day. It's certainly a low point of not just 2025, but the artbook world in general. High - Improved Binding While there are still books that have arrived that didn't quite nail this, there was a noticeable step-up in 2025 for the binding of books across multiple publishers, most specifically for reducing image loss in the centre fold. A huge problem for many books that are otherwise excellent, having the pages not lay flat without having to be held down is always frustrating to see. A piece of art can be ruined when some of it isn't visible due to the tight binding swallowing it up in the fold. However, 2025 saw not only an improvement for many releases, but in some cases avoiding the problem entirely. Books like The Art of Borderlands , Creating Worlds: The Cinematic Art of Dylan Cole (previewed above), The Art of Assassin's Creed Shadows , and more, allowed their art to shine across full spreads without issue, and I was very happy to see it! Low - Marvel Studios' Still Can't Figure it Out There's a future essay to be written about the rise and fall of the Marvel Studios' artbooks, because the handling of the long running series has been poor for some time now and that had an impact on 2025. The same few problems raised their ugly heads again; delays, dark print quality, and pricing. The publisher has now delayed 27 books in a row, that's every artbook in the Multiverse Saga. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law - The Art of the Series arrived in 2025 after 6 delays that pushed it over a year past its original date, coming two and an half years after the show hit Disney+. The books don't do as well as the should on Amazon rankings and these time gaps are undoubtedly contributing to that. Some of the books suffered from the dark print quality again, making darker costumes on similarly coloured background murky and hard to make out, which highlights that Marvel are still accepting of this lower quality. I've written about pricing here many times, especially with Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps – The Art of the Movie having an unjustifiable RRP of $150. Charging an additional $50 for 32 extra pages and a 32-page booklet is frankly a joke, it's the same amount of money you can buy an entire higher quality book from Dark Horse/ Titan Books/ Abrams Books for. This was on top of an already high $100, which was already too much. You can read more about this in my review of the First Steps book here - Book Review . Ultimately, the reason this is a low is because Marvel was once the gold standard of movie artbooks, with no page cap, fair pricing, and reliable release windows. The art itself is still exceptional and comes from some of the best in the industry, and some releases are still worth buying, such as 2025's Marvel Studios' Loki: Season Two - The Art of the Series . However, they need to re-evaluate their decision making that lets down their stronger aspects, and I'm hoping 2026 has them return to form. High - Re-releases and Reprints It's not all bad on the Marvel front, as included in the reprints of older artbooks that came in 2025, theirs are amongst the best out there. Titan Books' Infinity Saga series has been reissuing the older Marvel Studios artbooks as a matching set, coming slightly smaller and without a slipcase, but at a great price point, with improved binding and a better print quality, making them well worth picking up. Check out a review for their latest one here - Book Review - The Infinity Saga - Thor: Ragnarok - The Art of the Movie As well as this though, other books have hit shelves with more stock and upgrades, including from publisher Udon Entertainment. In 2025 they re-released Okami Official Complete Works as a hardcover and Marvel vs. Capcom: Ultimate Complete Works came with over 100 additional pages of artwork too. Continuing this in 2026, Shovel Knight: Ultimate Design Works will include over 100 new pages and an upgrade to a hardcover in May as well. More stock also arrived for their Dark Souls artbooks, which is great for fans that missed out. Although the anticipated re-release of Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar didn't show its face after being expected last year, having others made available is never a bad thing and I hope this continues in the future. Low - Shipping Costs The economy of the world wasn't exactly great in 2025, nor is it any better now, and this affected collectors that were looking to import books. I can speak to this first hand as someone that had to pay painful shipping costs from France to the UK. Sadly, I also had to turn down ordering other books from places like Poland due to postage adding on over 50% to the overall price, as seen in the example above that almost doubled the total. This mostly has an impact on smaller book publishers that sell through their own website, as importing from Amazon is significantly cheaper due to their infrastructure, in some cases it's even free. I missed out this year on books for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II , Baldurs Gate 3 , and Outer Wilds , because shipping made them too expensive. Others I have spoken to have had the same issue ordering books to their own country. It's not the fault of the publishers, but it's certainly one of the more disappointing issues that impacted last year. High - Health of the Market In 2025 there were a lot of releases from publishers large and small, including many successful Kickstarter campaigns along the way, a great sign that there is still a big interest from people for artbooks and that publishers can continue to grow. The year saw a big number of releases from companies like Dark Horse and Insight Editions, showing that sales are strong and partnering with studios and individuals continues to be well worth their time. Meanwhile, other publishers aren't slowing down either, like Lost in Cult who have not just released multiple books in 2025, but filled their 2026 calendar with new announcements, such as Alan Wake: Design Works . Cook and Becker sold out of their book WORLD OF TANKS. Journey Through Art very quickly which was fantastic news for them, and Clover Press had an impressive run of Kickstarter funded titles. Artbooks are being made and artbooks are being bought! It was good to see that the space remained as healthy as it could given the state of the economy, with books coming endlessly and people showing interest in news stories here. Fingers crossed it doesn't slow down! Low - Artist Credits This has been very hit and miss in 2025, even with releases from the same publisher. While some books have been very good at crediting each image on every page with the responsible artists, others either only provide a list and the start or end of the book, or don't mention them at all. It's a shame when this happens, as without the artists, you wouldn't have the game, movie, show, or animation, let alone the book. Releases from Marvel Studios and Chronicle Books are consistent in getting this right, but others are more sporadic. It is again something I hope to see improved in 2026, especially with more artists leaving social media, making it easier to forget their hard work and contributions to the media we all love. They should be recognised somewhere, and these books is the perfect place for it. High - The Future of Artbooks 2025 delivered in many ways that makes me hopeful for the future of the artbook space, specifically because of the continued interest in the books and the publisher's non-stop announcements. At a time where artists are struggling to find work and AI threatens to destroy the very foundation of the industry, there are still many that are holding firm against these changes and push for human creation. The combination of creatives doing incredible things and fans gravitating towards it shows there is no sign that artbooks are going anywhere at this current time. Will the landscape change? Very likely. If studios do switch to AI, then I can see individual artists working outside of the industry in new ways, which would very likely include books. As seen with Ian McQue's narrative artbook Mileships that was funded on Kickstarter, there is a healthy appetite from people for unique art, so even if studio based 'Art of' books were to fade away, they would likely be replaced with other releases. As it stands though, artbooks are not going anywhere and that won't change for a while. Even if there was a shift to something different, 2025 only highlighted that people love art and they want it on their shelves, so there will always be publishers that help them get filled! That ends my list of notable highs and lows of 2025! I was very impressed with what arrived over the last 12 months and cannot wait to see what the new year brings. Many books have already been announced for 2026, so be sure to keep an eye out for what's coming on Upcoming page . Many of these books will be joining the collection and will be previewed and reviewed here. I'll keep the site as up to date as possible with the latest artbooks for games, movies, TV, animation, and more, allowing those that enjoy artbooks to grow their own collections along with me! • 'SpongeBob SquarePants: The Art of an Undersea World' Delayed into March

January 3rd 2026 The upcoming SpongeBob artbook was revealed in October by IDW Publishing, however "I'm ready!", has become "I wasn't quite as ready as I thought.", as the book has unfortunately has its release date pushed back. SpongeBob SquarePants: The Art of an Undersea World promises an exciting look at the show and movies, but has now been delayed from February 17th to March 3rd, giving fans a little longer to wait to see the early art behind Bikini Bottom and its cast of characters. The book will come as a massive 352-page hardcover made in partnership with Nickelodeon. You'll be able to get a look at the early art for SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Gary, Squidward, Plankton, and more, as well as storyboards, backgrounds, and final art for the the now classic cartoon. The reason for the delay is unknown and follows another delay from the publisher for The Art of Star Trek: Lower Decks , which could indicate a scheduling issue that has affected multiple releases. The delay was spotted when checking retailer listings and confirmed on websites that include Amazon US and Barnes & Noble . The delay is relatively short for an artbook though, and hopefully the last one the release will see. As noted when it was revealed, S pongeBob SquarePants: The Art of an Undersea World comes with an RRP of $49.99/ £41.99, an fantastic price point for a book of this size. This makes it the perfect gift for those that grew up with the show, but also parents of a younger generation of fans as well. The previews seen here are not final, but indicate that there will be a lot of insights to read alongside the artwork showcased on the pages, further adding to the book's appeal. The upcoming book comes a few months after the last appearance of everyone's favourite sponge too, as on December 19th 2024 a new movie was released, titled The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants . While this will have created some new fans, most will no doubt know SpongeBob from the TV show that is still going today, over 25 years after its debut in 1999. Season 16 ran from September 12th to November 28th, continuing the show's slapstick comedy and entertaining scenarios the characters find themselves in. • New Artbook Predictions for 2026

January 2nd 2026 The start of the new year is a good time to look back at the great releases that came in 2025, but it's also a good time to look forward too. With that being said, here is a list of 11 artbook announcements and releases I think (and hope) we could see coming in 2026, including the more obvious titles and a couple that I have my fingers crossed for! Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Brand New Day - The Art of the Movie An artbook for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is certainly a guarantee to arrive at some point, given that Marvel Studios has been releasing artbooks for their movies since the very first Iron Man in 2008 (excluding the Universal made The Incredible Hulk ). The only thing I'm curious to see with this release is what the format will be. Will it be a very expensive $150 slipcase with a booklet like The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art of the Movie , or will they go back to just including the prints? If you read my review of the First Steps artbook, you'll know I found it incredibly overpriced, so I'm hoping Marvel see the light and make this as affordable as possible for their millions of fans. Perhaps it will also hit its initial release date too, with an arrival later in the year. I'll always be excited to see concept art for the Punisher and Hulk, so this will certainly join the collection if they get the pricing right. The Art of Ghost of Yōtei Video game artbooks were often released shortly after the game itself, however, now that it's a time where that is much less common, there is still a very good chance a Ghost of Yōtei book is yet to be revealed. The Art of Ghost of Tsushima was published by Dark Horse and is a fantastic look at the Sucker Punch's open-world hit, presented in a open-stitched book to match the theme of the game. Dark Horse have also long been the artbook partner of PlayStation, releasing the artbooks for series and games including God of War, Horizon, Returnal , Spider-Man 2 , Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Ratchet & Clank. A reveal in the first half of the year would not be surprising, with a release later in 2026. The Art of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Originally released in December 2024 on Xbox and PC, but also coming the PS5 last year, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that a delayed artbook would be coming for the game. Not only have previous artbooks from publisher Bethesda come up to a couple of years after a game launch, as seen with Starfield Visual Compendium for example, but developer Machine Games are no stranger to artbooks either. The studio has three published books for the Wolfenstein series through Dark Horse, so another for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has certainly been at least considered. The only thing that may hold it back is licensing, which is always a risk when using existing IP, but far from impossible as seen with Marvel and Star Wars video game artbooks. Marvel Television's Daredevil: Born Again - The Art of the Series This is a bit of a cheat as we technically know it is coming as reported here last year after being noted in a Instagram post from artist Jackson Sze. There is a big 'but' to this though, because plans change and Marvel's handling of the books has been odd at times. There was also no artbook for Echo or Iron Heart , so they may pull out of letting fans see the art behind the show altogether. I'm optimistic for this one though as Daredevil is incredibly popular, although I do consider the chance that they wait and cover two season of the show, as Born Again Season 2 is expected March of this year. This will be the first MCU artbook for Daredevil, following one that was listed and then removed many years ago for its original season on Netflix. Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar Oh Valve, your following and high bar of quality is only matched by your ability to make fans wait... The re-release of this artbook was announced as part of Half-Life 2 's 20th anniversary in 2024 and was set for release in 2025, as noted on their website . It will not only feature the original content, but it will add concept art for the two episodes as well. Sadly, not only did the book not arrive, but they never mentioned it again, causing it to miss its 21st anniversary as well. I still have my fingers crossed for this one though, there is a space reserved for it in the collection! The Art of Stranger Things Not as likely, but there is such a big audience for this that it would be odd if Netflix hadn't considered an artbook for Stranger Things. Now that the show has ended, it's the perfect time to reveal a look at the art behind The Upside Down and its creatures. It would likely be an 'Art and Making of' book if it does come to fruition to appeal to more people, not that it would be lacking buyers either way. The Art of High on Life 2 Squanch Games teamed with Titan Books to release a look at the previous game with The Art of High on Life , so this would be far from unexpected. It's hard to know if a book is successful, as there is really no way to find sales data, but assuming that they did well on the last publication, I imagine this will appear sometime this year. High on Life 2 is coming February 13th, giving plenty of time for an announcement in 2026 and I'm sure there are a lot of players wanting to see more of the insanity through artwork for the shooter. Nioh 3: Official Artworks While I predict a book is coming, it's likely only going to be in Japan from publisher Kadokawa. This is often the case for many JRPG's, as it was for Nioh & Nioh 2: Official Artworks , which was then later translated into English by Udon Entertainment. English versions can take a couple of years to arrive, but if a Japanese version is confirmed, then it's safe to assume Udon will pick up the book for release in 2027/ 2028. The Art of Saros Again based on previous releases and PlayStation's relationship with Dark Horse, a look at the art behind the upcoming game Saros from Housemarque is very likely. When it will be released is up for debate though, as The Art of Returnal took over 3 years to arrive after the game was launched by the developer. That was their first book though, so the next could come a lot quicker. Check out a preview of their last book below. Resistance: 20th Anniversary Retrospective This is the least likely and bordering on never going to happen, but a dream release as a huge fan of the first-person shooter series from Insomniac Games. There is a precedent for the this though, God of War: 20th Anniversary Retrospective from Dark Horse. This two-volume set looked back at the series with in-depth details and interviews for the series, while including a huge amount of early concept art. The Resistance games never received an artbook, so there is likely a lot to see, making the idea of a release to celebrate its 20th birthday very interesting. Sadly though, the series has lost its relevancy, which is what takes it from no-brainer, to more of a dream book. Resistance: Fall of Man , Resistance 2 , and Resistance 3 are all fantastic PS3 games though, so who knows, perhaps they will be ported to modern hardware in the future! Gears of War: 20th Anniversary Retrospective With the same thinking as above, Gears of War is also hitting the big 20 this year, so an artbook isn't out of the question. Would it be a 'Retrospective' style book set? Perhaps not, that may have been a PlayStation deal, but previous artbooks for the series have also come by way of Dark Horse. Being one of the biggest IP's from Xbox does mean that a fuss should be made in November, bringing the chance that products and books may be revealed to celebrate. I know another peak at the concept art behind the series would be most welcome here, especially for the first two games that didn't get a book. There are many movies, shows, and games that could get an artbook, but these are some that stood out and are worth highlighting. Many have already been announced or appeared on retailer listings too, including books for Avatar: Fire and Ash , Toy Story 5 , and The Mandalorian and Grogu . • Upcoming Artbooks: January 2026

January 1st 2026 After leaving 2025 and it's impressive library of artbook releases behind, we move into 2026 with high hopes for another strong publishing schedule. December ended last year on a high, delivering fantastic titles, with Kickstarter books arriving too as a cherry on top. In January things slow down though, as sadly the new year has already begun with heavy delays, turning what was once a month of seven releases, into a month of just two. Hopefully this isn't a sign that things will repeat themselves, as early 2025 was light on releases as setbacks pushed many of them into the backend of the year. Video game fans have a couple to look forward to this month as you will see here. 6th - The Art and Making of Sid Meier's Civilization VII Insight Editions is providing the first release of the year with a look at the massively popular strategy game Civilization VII that was released in February 2025. The Art and Making of Sid Meier's Civilization VII will not only provide insights into the making of the latest entry in the series, but interviews with the developer will reflect on the franchise as a whole. Alongside this will be concept art, historical research, and photography that the Firaxis Games team put together when creating the game across the book's 256 pages. The foreword is provided by the series creator himself, Sid Meier. This will no doubt be exciting for long time players of the series and the many newer fans that are younger than series itself, which is now almost almost 35 years old. If interested in the book, you can order a copy here; Buy Here   / Buy Here (UK) 27th - The Art of Rust After a troubled release schedule consisting of 6 delays, The Art of Rust from publisher Dark Horse and developer Facepunch Studios is ready to hit shelves and give fans a look at the concept art that helped build its world. Coming as a 192-page hardcover, the book will feature art for the equipment, armour, weapons, environments, vehicles, wildlife, assets, and more, for the game. Rust was released in early access in 2013, with a full release in 2018, so there is a lot for the team to show to those that have been enjoying playing the game. Given that this is a heavy crafting title, expect to see a lot of assets included that allow players to build the fortifications and tools needed to survive the island and, of course, other players! You can order a copy of The Art of Rust to your own shelf below. A copy is also joining the collection here too for review. Buy Here   / Buy Here (UK) Updates for these books will be reported as they happen, with more future artbook releases found on the Upcoming page ! These books were also featured in my Artbook News Roundup video for December 2025, which you can see below. • 'Andor' and 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' Artbooks Delayed

December 30th 2025 Abrams Books have unfortunately been pushing back their long-awaited Star Wars artbooks to later in 2026, giving patient fans a little longer to wait. All three books scheduled for release in the year have suffered, including a look at Andor and the Clan of Two. After spotting the delay of the the artbook for Star Wars: The Acolyte , the other two upcoming releases for live-action projects have also been found to have suffered setbacks too. The Art of Star Wars: Andor and The Art of Star Wars: the Mandalorian and Grogu are now coming later than expected, as confirmed on retailer listings. First, The Art of Star Wars: Andor has been delayed from May 19th to June 30th, the second date change for the book after being slated for March when revealed. The 272-page hardcover book will showcase the concept art for both seasons of the hit show, as well as insights from author Phil Szostak. When the artbooks stopped for the Star Wars series after The Mandalorian Season 2, people were sad that Andor was skipped, but by including both seasons, it now fills that gap. The Art of the Mandalorian and Grogu will not only feature concept art for the movie, but it is also plugging previous artbook gaps by including The Mandalorian Season 3 and The Book of Bobba Fett . This site had the book as coming in April, as confirmed on social media by Phil Szostak, however, other sources updated its release to September. Now though, the book has been pushed back again and is now expected November 3rd 2026, more than 6 months after the movie's premier. The reasons for the delays are unknown and done in silence. Unfortunately in the artbook world, there is a lot of noise when announcing a book, but delays go unnoticed unless you manually check, or get an email notification from retailers for a pre-order. Many delays happen shortly after being announced too, despite being revealed a long time in advance of a release, and while there are lots of reasons for setbacks, nothing has been done to minimise them or change how and when books are announced. Hopefully, for all three of the upcoming artbooks from Abrams it will be the last setbacks, as it has now been 4 years since we have had an artbook for the live-action projects. There is also still no news on books for Ashoka , Obi-Wan Kenobi , or Skeleton Crew either, but hopefully they will be coming in the future too. Future updates for the books will be shared here and you can order copies of the books below; The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte But Here  / Buy Here (UK) The Art of Star Wars: Andor Buy Here  / Buy Here (UK) The Art of the Mandalorian and Grogu Buy Here TBC / Buy Here (UK) Tags; #TheAcolyte #StarWars #AbramsBooks #Lucasfilm #Disney

  • 'The Art of Star Trek: Lower Decks' Now Coming in May 2026

December 29th 2025 The upcoming book from IDW Publishing that takes a look at the artwork behind Star Trek: Lower Decks has suffered a delay, moving the release date for the book out of January and into May. The Art of Star Trek: Lower Decks will give fans a peak at the work of the artists across the 5 seasons of the animated show, perfect for fans wanting more following its ending. After the most recent delay, the 192-page hardcover is now set for release May 5th 2026, as confirmed on the websites of retailers. The book has hit by delays before, but are hard to track due to the nature in which they are handled—silently. Admittedly, a previous delay was missed on the site, and only in noticing this new date, did I discover there had been another before. Hopefully though, this is the last delay it will be hit with. When it does arrive though, The Art of Star Trek: Lower Decks features sketches, designs, full-colour images, and more for the hit show, showcased alongside interviews with the creators. It will cover all aspects of the show, including the characters, the Cerritos, locations, and individual episodes. Check out some previews of the book below. Star Trek: Lower Decks  is an adult animated comedy set in the 24th century, focusing on the support crew of the USS Cerritos, a Starfleet vessel that doesn't get the high-priority missions that others are tasked with. It focuses on the lives of Beckett Mariner, Brad Boimler, Tendi, and Rutherford, crew members that deal with everyday tasks, awkward social dynamics, and unexpected moments aboard the ship. This corner of the Star Trek universe delivers humour and franchise lore, packed in a colourful and fun animation style, that made it a hit with fans. • 'Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume III' Has Been Delayed to March 2026

December 29th 2025 The upcoming English translation of the artbook for Elden Ring's DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree , has been delayed. Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume III from Udon Entertainment will be arriving later than expected after a new release date for the book appeared online. The first delay moved the book's release January 2026, but this second delay has pushed it again by another 2 months, giving it a new date of March 3rd 2026. The 320-page hardcover will include all of the content of the Japanese original that hit shelves in December of 2024. The delay was spotted online and confirmed on multiple retailer websites, including Amazon US and Barnes and Noble, both of which have been reliable sources in the past and make the story safe to report. Amazon UK has a date in February, but is much more unreliable with dates than the American counterpart. The Udon website itself gives no specific date, only early Q1 of 2026, which this no longer is. It also notes the original November date on the same page too, leaving fans to rely on retailers to get the most up to date information. Delays are common for artbooks, but sadly rarely publicly acknowledged or explained. As this was only just spotted while working on a video, I cannot give specifics on when the delay happened. It can be hard to do this as different websites get updated at different times, with those even varying from the same company in different countries, as seen with Amazon. Like the The Art of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty that has just also been delayed by the publisher, this is an English translated edition of the original book published in Japan by Kadokawa. However, not only will this translate the text (although there is very little in previous volumes), but it will come as a hardcover, a better option than a paperback. A couple of page previews can be seen below. Elden Ring: Official Art Book Volume III features art for FromSoftware's hugely popular RPG, this time diving into the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The new version is coming out more than a year after the original, which is not unusual with these releases from Udon Entertainment. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree  launched in 2024 and became critically acclaimed along with the base game. It introduced the new region of the Land of Shadow and the demigod antagonist, Miquella. It has a large map to explore, with more enemies and boss fights that continue its brutal difficulty. Shadow of the Erdtree is now one of the highest-selling DLC of all time, so there will be many players with their eyes on this book. If there are any more updates on the book they will be reported here and a copy will be reviewed when it arrives March 3rd. • The Artbook Collector 2025 Awards

January 5th 2025 It's the end of another year, so it's time for the completely unofficial, The Artbook Collector Official Awards of 2025! 44 books released over the last year were added to the collection and now that the last one has arrived, I can give out some awards. This is a fun look back and not to be taken too seriously, as these awards are decided by just myself and based on the on the books I now own and have reviewed. The categories will also change based on what was released too, to highlight some notable books. It has been a great year though, making some of these awards very hard to pick winners for! Best Book Cover For the second year in a row, this award has to go to Bryce Kho, for not one, but two book covers! Kho created custom art for his new books, both coming with gold foiling for some extra flare. The covers for Sea of Stars: Throes of the Watchmaker: The Concept Art of Bryce Kho and Overflow: The Art of Bryce Kho can be seen below, highlighting his incredible artwork, with each book also giving breakdowns of their creation too! The releases from 3dtotal Publishing are well worth adding to your collection. Best Book Production Quality This award goes to Creating Worlds: The Disney and 20th Century Studios Cinematic Art of Dylan Cole ! 2025 delivered a noticeable improvement in binding and print quality for multiple releases, and not just from one publisher either. It lead to many books avoiding image loss in the centre fold, which can really ruin an artbook. The standout though was Creating Worlds from Insight Editions (Titan Books in the UK), a book that showcases the stunning art of Dylan Cole for a collection of movies, including Avatar and Maleficent. It's a large book with 296 pages, but the binding included a lot of page signatures and and enough flexibility to fully showcase the art that takes up the full spread. As well as this, the print finish is exceptional, with true blacks and clear details in even the smallest elements of an image, possibly the best I've seen in an artbook. Read my full review of Creating Worlds here - Book Review . Best Look at Unused Concepts This award goes to Marvel for their Marvel Studios artbooks! There were a lot of books that were generous with sharing unused designs, but Marvel have been consistent at showing them with multiple releases in 2025, with some being very notable. While the books haven't quite hit the heights of former years, there have been some interesting pages of character concepts that never made it to the screen. Below and in photo order are the following examples; The Leader horror concepts from Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World - The Art of the Movie The 'Golden Surfer' from Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art of the Movie Loki 'God of Stories' costumes from Marvel Studios' Loki: Season Two - The Art of the Series She-Hulk character concepts from Marvel Studios' She-Hulk: Attorney At Law - The Art of the Series Best Use of Space In another competitive category, the award goes to Starfield Visual Compendium from Dark Horse! The partnership with Bethesda delivered a huge 368-page hardcover book, but it still packed a lot of art in on every page. There are many different approaches to page design, but the goal here was clearly to share as much of the early sketches and full-colour concepts as possible, so empty page space became the enemy. As you can see below in the photos and video preview, there is a wealth of artwork, but they are still very readable and the print quality helps maintain image clarity throughout. It can often make a book look messy including so many images, buy the design team did a fantastic job here and the book offers a huge amount to pore over for Starfield as a result. Read my full review of Starfield Visual Compendium here - Book Review . Buy Here   / Buy Here (UK) Best Crediting of Artists This award goes to The Art of DOOM: The Dark Ages from Dark Horse and id Software! Crediting is very hit and miss in the artbook world, and while this book was lighter on text with its art-heavy focus, it still made sure you knew exactly who created what on the page. They also listed the artists in the back of the book in a clear way too, you can't ask for much more than that! Read my full review of this incredible book here . Buy Here (US)   / Buy Here (UK) Give Me More The 'Give Me More' award goes to God of War: 20th Anniversary Retrospective from Dark Horse! This was I book I ordered as fan of the series and wasn't expecting it to feature so much art, as its description gave no indication of how much would be included in the two-volume set. In fact, it's not really advertised as an artbook at all. However, there is a huge amount here alongside the history of God of War's development, making it perfect for lovers of the series and concept art. Splitting the Greek and Norse Saga was a thoughtful approach that I also really appreciated. The 'Retrospective' is something that I hope Dark Horse does again for other games, whether it be Killzone and Ratchet & Clank from PlayStation as well, or titles from other publishers and developers too. Read the review of God of War: 20th Anniversary Retrospective with more previews here - Book Review . Buy Here   / Buy Here (UK) Worth the Wait The winner of this award is Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective from publisher Piggyback! 23 years after the release of the original Metroid Prime in 2002, this book features the concept art behind the trilogy and 2023's Metroid Prime Remastered . Across its 208 pages, the book includes early sketches, full-colour concepts, 3D models, and more, made with different art techniques and styles to create a wonderful collection of artwork for fans. Producer Kensuke Tanabe delivers the insights inside, with very honest thoughts and memories of the series while working with Retro Studios. The book is a welcome addition to the shelves of players, but if you need more convincing, read my review here . Buy Here   / Buy Here (UK) Best Animation Artbook Titan Books and Skydance Animation take this award with WondLa: The Art & Making of the Limited Series ! Stepping up to take on the usual suspects for animation artbooks, this release clearly takes inspiration from them while holding its own. It's a great showcase of the undeniable talent of the art team involved in adapting the WondLa books, but with many members of the team having an impressive resume in animation and movies, it's hardly a surprise. From early ideas to developed designs, as well as insights on the shows creation, this look behind the scenes is more than worthy of the award. Read my review of the book - Book Review . Buy Here   / Buy Here (UK) Best Art Showcase This award is for the book that best showcases the work of an individual, so it had to go to Creating Worlds: The Disney and 20th Century Studios Cinematic Art of Dylan Cole ! Dylan Cole's goal for the book was to show his art as it was originally created and allow it space to breathe, and he executed that brilliantly. The page design is simple, drawing all attention to the images, and so it very much feels like walking through an art gallery. In combination with the high quality of the print finish and binding, this is a superb look at the artist's work. Buy Here / Buy Here (UK) Best Deep Dive The winner for this award goes to Outer Wilds: Design Works from Lost in Cult! A number of books joined the collection in 2025 that feature deep dives into the development of projects, but this look at Mobius Digital's sci-fi hit Outer Wilds was the standout this year. It perfectly balanced the written history, insights, and development of the game alongside the wonderful concept art, leaving you wanting to jump right back into the game. Engaging from start to finish through the excellent writing and interviews, fans will learn a lot about the game and the team behind its creation, all contained within this well-designed book. Read the review of the book to learn more and see more previews - Book Review . Buy Here Most Anticipated A late book listing takes this one, as The Art of Avatar: Fire and Ash from DK is my most anticipated artbook for 2026! Although its existence is not a surprise, you can't help but be excited to see listings appear online. Noted as coming on July 2nd, this book will highlight the concept art behind the most visually impressive release in cinemas this year, including a look at the new locations, characters, and cultures of Pandora. If the previous book, The Art of Avatar: The Way of Water , is anything to go by, this will be well worth adding to your collection. Best Publisher Taking it for the second year running is publisher Dark Horse! If you play video games and enjoy concept art, Dark Horse will no doubt make their way onto your shelf. They have become the go to for some of the biggest developers in the gaming industry, but also work on releases for animation and comic books too, so a new release is always around the corner. Their greatest strength is their consistency, delivering large hardcovers with great paper and print quality, as well as implementing continual improvements too, such as the reducing image loss in the centre fold. 12 Dark Horse books joined the collection in 2025, and that's not all of their releases! Many are some of my favourites of the year too, including The Art of Assassin's Creed Shadows , God of War: 20th Anniversary Retrospective , The Art of DOOM: The Dark Ages , and Starfield Visual Compendium . Check out the slider below of some their releases from the last 12 months. Artbook of the Year The final award, the one that everyone wants to see, but is the hardest to choose. This year it goes to The Art of Star Wars Outlaws from Dark Horse and Massive Entertainment! It was an incredible 12 months of releases and a handful were more than worthy of the award, but I kept coming back to this one and so it felt right to make it official. Like other books, the production quality, page design, insights, and of course, the artwork, are brilliant. On top of this though, this book had a lot to live up to, because not only does Star Wars have an insane amount of glorious concept art from some of the best in the industry, but it also has a rich history of exceptional artbooks too. Fortunately though, the artists delivered stunning artwork and the book does a great job at presenting it to fans. It ticks a lot of boxes for me; a well-made book, early 'blue sky' concepts and sketches to epic full colour pieces, a look at multiple aspects of the game, interesting insights, great page design and use of space, and incredible artwork. I was happy that The Art of Star Wars Outlaws  continues the legacy of the extraordinary Star Wars artbook catalogue, making this look at the adventure of Kay Vess and Nix highly recommended! Read the review of The Art of Star Wars Outlaws here - Book Review . Buy Here  / Buy Here (UK) Honourable Mentions It's only right to mention the books that were also considered for Artbook of the Year! Creating Worlds: The Disney and 20th Century Studios Cinematic Art of Dylan Cole - The undeniable talent of Cole got the showcase it deserves in this release, making it recommended for not just his fans, but those that love movie art in general. The Art of Assassin's Creed Shadows - The series from Ubisoft has always delivered great artbooks, with this one being on of the strongest in the line-up. The environment art is outstanding yet again and depicts moments, rather than static scenes. Like the Star Wars Outlaws book, it ticks many boxes for an 'Art of' release and perfect for fans wanting more from the game. Starfield Visual Compendium - If you love sci-fi design and want a lot of it, this is the book for you. I was impressed by the sheer amount of art included, which was matched by the book making it very presentable throughout. The art team at Bethesda are fantastic too, making it a book you'll keep coming back to and is ideal for artists looking for a volume of reference material. That's the awards for 2025! Let me know what you think and be sure to check out the YouTube channel here to see previews of many of the books mentioned here, as well as over 30 more releases from the year! • 'The Art of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty' Delayed Again to April 2026

December 29th 2025 In another delay from publisher Udon Entertainment, The Art of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has missed its January release date, leaving players outside of Japan waiting longer to get their hands on the book. Originally set for release in June 2024, the 192-page hardcover was pushed back a couple of times and given a new January publication date. However, this has been changed again, only noticed when checking retailer listings online, who now show a release date of April 14th 2026. The reason that artbooks can be hard to track and easily missed is because delays are rarely announced publicly, so without a statement from Udon, its hard to say when this happened. For full transparency, manual checks happen fairly often, but different retailers update listings at different times, so it can be very difficult to catch them as they happen, as you will see today on this site with multiple delays reported. The new date for The Art of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was confirmed Amazon US and Barnes and Noble , who were both used to confirm the last delay too. Yet again in the UK, retailers are still showing the old date, with the UK Amazon showing the book as unavailable since it missed its November 2024 release. Expect websites to eventually catch up with the latest update and emails to be received soon if you have pre-ordered the book. The upcoming artbook will showcase the concept art and character profiles for the dark-fantasy RPG, perfect for those wanting to see how the art team crafted its world. Inside is a look at the characters, world, enemies, weapons, and more for the game. This new version will not only be readable for more players, but also comes as a hardcover, which is much better for preservation. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was developed by Team NINJA and released on March 3rd 2023, winning fans over with its 'Soulslike' gameplay and parry-based combat. It is set in 184CE, during the collapse of the Han Dynasty, but adds a demonic fantasy twist on top of its historical setting. In 2023 the game had sold over 1 million units and has since passed more than 5 million players. Future updates will be reported here and the book is still expected to join the collection when it arrives on April 14th for review. • Flip Through - The Art of The Outer Worlds 2

December 26th 2025 The holidays are here, but the books keep coming! A new preview is on The Artbook Collector YouTube channel, with a new release taking a look at the art behind The Outer Worlds 2 . The Art of The Outer Worlds 2 was released December 16th from Dark Horse, coming with 208-pages of artwork and insights for the sci-fi RPG from developer Obsidian Entertainment. It comes shortly after the release of the game, which is less common now, so it makes for great timing for those that are not done with the Arcadia star system and want some more from its world. The book features concept art for the characters, weapons, environments, enemies, and graphic design, covering all aspects of the game's world for players to enjoy. Those that like costume design will find a lot to pore over here, with the book showcasing the retro-futuristic style across the various factions. The environments show off some of the games locations too, including earlier artwork of designs that were never used. I reviewed the book and found that some chapters, especially Environments, were great, but others lacked the variety seen in other releases and that made the book feel safe and sterile. For more thoughts on the what's included, as well as the physical books itself, you can read my review here - Book Review . The Outer Worlds 2  is the sequel to Obsidian Entertainment’s satirical sci-fi RPG, continuing its humour and action in a new star system. Sent to investigate space-time rifts, the player also ends up dealing with competing factions, propaganda, and corrupt leaders, all while the game builds on the gameplay of the original. It features improved role-playing systems, storytelling, combat, and player choices, much to the praise of fans. The sharp writing made a welcomed return and visual design gets to shine on the latest hardware, making it perfect for the artbook treatment. • Flip Through - Sea of Stars: Throes of the Watchmaker: The Concept Art of Bryce Kho

December 23rd 2025 A new release has joined The Artbook Collector YouTube channel with a preview of the artwork behind the DLC of the hit role-playing game Sea of Stars ! Sea of Stars: Throes of the Watchmaker: The Concept Art of Bryce Kho is a 68-page hardcover release from 3dtotal Publishing, in partnership with artist Bryce Kho and developer Sabotage Studio, to give players a look at the new characters and more for the game. It was released on December 16th 2025 and highlights the talent of Kho in the second artbook for Sea of Stars . This new volume follows the release for the base game, Sea of Stars: The Concept Art of Bryce Kho , and continues its design approach of showing the progression of the concepts, alongside text conversations with game director Thierry Boulanger. This is a unique approach and is a great look behind the scenes at how the characters and enemies were created. The book also features a look at t-shirt deigns, key art, and the custom book covers for both releases. In my review of the book, I praised this approach, as well as the fantastic production quality of the book, the choices of what to include, and of course, the superb talent of Bryce Kho. You can read that here - Book Review . Sea of Stars: Throes of the Watchmaker  is a free expansion for the turn-based RPG and was released in May 2025. It's a new post-game story that takes protagonists Zale and Valere into a new clockwork world called Horloge, bringing more challenges to take on. This includes new areas, puzzles, enemies, bosses, and playable classes. Artificer Arty is also introduced as a new party member too, perfect for the co-op support that allows 3 people to play together. Like the base game, the DLC was met with positive reviews from fans for continuing the charm and fun gameplay that won them over before. • Book Review - The Art of The Outer Worlds 2

December 22nd 2025 Obsidian Entertainment made their anticipated return in 2025 with The Outer Worlds 2 , inviting fans back to its corporate run, retro-futuristic, and hazardous sci-fi universe. Players were excited for the game and those that enjoy concept art were in luck too, as an artbook was also announced. Partnering with Dark Horse, The Art of The Outer Worlds 2 is now here to allow players to see some of the art behind the latest game from the studio! Arriving on December 23rd 2025, the artbook arrived less than 2 months after the game, giving players just a short wait to get more from the Arcadia star system. Below is my review of The Art of The Outer Worlds 2 , as well as photos of some pages too. Build Quality This is a Dark Horse artbook, so I knew what to expect the day the book was announced and was not disappointed. Consistency is one of their greatest strengths and that’s ideal when the quality is always very good. It comes in the usual 23.5cm x 21cm hardcover format, this time with 208 pages to pore over. The binding is again very good, feeling secure and having enough flexibility to allow the pages to lay flat with ease. A great showing as always from a production standpoint. Content The Art of The Outer Wilds 2 takes the standard approach to its chapters by dividing the game up into its major elements. This book creates chapters for the following; Factions, Characters, Weapons, Environments, Creatures and Automechanicals, and Propaganda. It’s simple and effective, ideal for those that want to see a particular part of the game’s design. Factions is the most text-heavy part, giving in-game lore for each of the groups, from mega-conglomerate Auntie’s Choice, to the smuggler faction Sub Rosa. After this, the art becomes much more of the main focus, with mixed results for me personally. The Character chapter was an interesting one, because it should really have been called ‘Costumes’, because there isn’t too much in the way the characters themselves are designed, as opposed to what they wear. I really like the costume design of The Outer Worlds 2 , especially for the Order of the Ascendant faction, but even for specific characters you don’t get much beyond this. These are presented in poses that aren’t especially interesting or dynamic, which is great for artists to convey details to those that work on the game, but it doesn’t make for a fun presentation in an artbook. If you are hoping to see different character shapes, poses, and early unused designs, you will be left wanting. 60 pages of just simple poses did leave me wondering where the keyframes and animation exploration were, because you don’t feel any personality from what you see. Again, that’s not the purpose of the art presented, but I don’t doubt they left out concepts that do show that side of the characters. The costume design is fantastic, but this curation feels very sterile. This sadly is repeated for the creatures in the book, of which there aren’t many, because they are shown in flat side profiles or the same 45-degree angle pose. I love creature design and it’s often a highlight, but without a dynamic pose that tells you something about them, it’s not as engaging for an artbook. Like the human concepts, there are no variations in the sizes and shapes either, just variants of one design. I find it unlikely they were happy with the first body type they drew, so I would have liked to have seen the unused versions included. Weapons are the usual affair of variants, but I really like how the retro-futuristic design comes in to play heavily here and it looks great. I appreciate that they also included the view of the guns from the game’s first-person perspective too. The Environments chapter is by far the strongest, with superb use of colour throughout, alongside a look at plants, buildings, rift events, and more. The great print quality of the book helps the colours pop off the page, giving it all a great showcase. It captures the feel of these places and the inclusion of exploration for specific elements of these places helps makes the chapter more dynamic. It even includes unused ideas too, such as mining machinery. Having fully painted backgrounds, as opposed to only standalone designs seen in other chapters, gives it much more life as well. It also features a look at the players ship, with more unused designs included. It’s by far my favourite part of the book. If you like graphic design, the Propaganda section will be a highlight for you as well, with some excellent art nouveau poster designs throughout. Again, the colours here are used well to coincide with different factions. For some games, this is an afterthought, but the use of art like this in The Outer Worlds 2 is much more important, and it gets to shine here. Text in the book leans more on giving in-universe lore and backgrounds on the characters, factions, and places of the game. However, there are some notes on the art itself that gives details on design approach, why something wasn’t used, influences, and more. It’s well written and doesn’t overstay its welcome either, so you will be happy to read it all if you enjoyed the game. Overall, the artwork inside is very strong, but the choice of what to include does make much of the book less appealing than it could otherwise be. Some artists may appreciate this more than players who are hoping to see early and unused designs, as well as concepts for moments of the story or gameplay exploration, as seen in other artbooks. I used the word sterile before, and I feel that is most accurate, along with safe. Credits Unfortunately, the book doesn’t include the credits of artists on each page, so you don’t get to find out who did what in the book. They haven’t been left out though, because they get their own page in the back of the book, which includes Goodname, an outsourcing art company. Not the ideal way to do it, but at least they are included. Use of Space As you can see in the previews, pages are filled up nicely in clean and simple layouts. The page design was kept very straightforward here, using some beige background boxes and rounded edged frames to separate elements on the pages throughout. I personally like simple as it works and doesn’t take away from the art. The most interesting part is for some of the character title pages, that although use the same pose as seen in the concept art, utilize art nouveau backgrounds to add some flair. The binding prevents image loss in the centre fold too, something I’ve been impressed by from Dark Horse this year. Value The book has an RRP of $54.99/ £49.99, the new pricing for Dark Horse in 2025. It is on the higher end of the pricing range for artbooks, but the production quality is always very good from the publisher. It is probably too high for the UK though, as this works out to be over $67, so it should probably be £40-45, as seen with other books on the market that have accounted for the more recent exchange rates. Checking Amazon again for consistency, just before the book’s release, it is discounted in the UK at 28% off and under £40. This is often the case with new releases, perhaps an indication they are aware of the exchange rate issue, one I wasn’t aware of myself until recently. Discounts come and go though, with nothing showing in the US yet, but it’s worth keeping an eye out. The American price as it stands isn’t one that will offend fans that jump in now though. Verdict The Art of The Outer Worlds 2 has its moments, including incredible environment art. However, in a year of many strong releases, you can’t help but notice how safe and generic much of the book is. The character and creature chapters lack the game’s personality, and although this could be all that was created by the team, those that are fans or own other artbooks may feel it is lacking the early and more dramatic artwork they were hoping for. The talent of the artists is not in question, but as a volume of artwork, it is not as compelling as other releases.   Die-hard fans, those that love sci-fi environments, and artists looking for some retro-futuristic references may find some value here, but outside of this, I would struggle to recommend this book. If you liked the previews and think this book is for you, The Art of The Outer Wilds 2 can be ordered here; Buy Here   / Buy Here (UK) Tags; #DarkHorse #TheOuterWorlds2 #ObsidianEntertainment #XboxGameStudios

  • Book Review - Overflow: The Art of Bryce Kho

December 21st 2025 Concept artist and illustrator Bryce Kho is back with another artbook, following a release for his work on the video game Sea of Stars last year. This time though, he gets to share his personal artwork and details about his life and career in Overflow: The Art of Bryce Kho ! Released on December 16th after being successfully funded on Kickstarter, Overflow sees Kho partner again with publisher 3dtotal, delivering a showcase for older fans and those, like myself, that discovered his talent though his work with Sabotage Studios. Excited to see more from the artist after delivering one of my favourite books of 2024 in Sea of Stars: The Concept Art of Bryce Kho , a copy of Overflow has joined the collection and I can now share my thoughts on the book! Build Quality Overflow comes as a 23.5cm x 31cm hardcover book and has 218 pages inside. It is will made, with a strong cover, thick quality paper, and binding that allows the page to fully open and lay flat. 3dtotal do a great job on the production of their books, so there was little surprise here that this is also very good. The standout element is the custom cover art with gold foil stamping that Kho created. It catches the eye and is perfect for letting those unfamiliar with his name see his fantastic art, which will no doubt have people wanting to check out what’s inside. Content Inside you’ll find an impressive display of Kho’s art, as well as details about his life and approach to creating his images. It acts as both a biography and peak at his process, making it appealing to fans and artists. It features traditional and digital techniques throughout, though most is done with paint, as his go to is watercolours. Studies take up the bulk of the book and are split into anatomy, costumes, characters, and ‘Gallery’. The first 3 are self-explanatory, highlighting art that focuses on each one in a variety of styles that still carries Kho’s recognisable touch. I particularly like the pieces made of block colour myself, though it all looks fantastic and the characters designs are incredible as always. Something that carries over from his illustrations and concept art, even in the studies, is the use of a variety of colours, making the art more interesting, but without being outlandish. This is aided by the high print quality of the book too, making the images pop off the page. What is interesting is that these 3 chapters are for dividing the art, but not the text, as this dives into the early life and career of Kho. It covers a lot, including his art as a child and his influences, through to university and creating the game Aegis Defenders , to his position today supporting himself through art and working with Sabotage Studio. I quite like this as it allows him to write freely, without being constrained by the chapters. However, while he does also discuss creating art within this, having some separate notes or descriptions for what’s on the page would have been nice to see too. The ‘Gallery’ chapter is one I really liked as it explored ideas for stories and concepts that Kho created art for, such as a magical-sports anime called 'Summoners Club', highlighting another side of his imagination. It is also here where you see much more of his maximalism art style, with lots of details and elements to look at in each piece. Beyond his expert use of colours, I like busy images and his composition makes them fun, without being messy, so I loved seeing these inclusions. The last chapters are tutorials, split into painted pieces and digital art. It explores his process from the initial idea coming from a description or purpose, to thumbnails, and then the final result. It’s interesting to see his stages and will be no doubt useful to aspiring artists, or even those that are interested in a new approach. The digital tutorial being included was great too, as it’s not the same as painting and gives a look at the creation of the superb book cover, allowing you to see it come to life as he works his way through each step. Overall, there is an engaging mix of artwork and insights throughout that hits on three fronts; learning more about Bryce Kho, getting some insights into creating the art, and being an impressive collection of his work. As a fan, I enjoyed seeing more from of what I like from Kho, but also other curations like the studies, all adding to my appreciation of the artist. Credits This is a part of all of my reviews, but there is only one artist featured and his name is on the front cover! Use of Space As you can see in the previews, Overflow does well to use up the page space without being cluttered. The placement of text gives room for the art to be the focus and the layouts change throughout. There is nothing fancy here, but it doesn’t need it, it all works very well and you can’t ask for much more than that. Images that cross the centre fold avoid image loss as well due to the binding, so I’m very impressed with this as well. Value The book has an RRP of £30/$50, which for those in the UK is a very reasonable price as it is lower than most. In the US it is still not bad though, within the normal price range for an artbook in 2025. For the size and production quality of the book, fans and collectors won’t be disappointed. Checking Amazon as always for consistency, on the week of its release, Overflow can be bought for $39.39 in the US and £24.93 in the UK. Both of these price drops are excellent and improve upon the existing value found in the RRP. These will come and go of course, but highlights the pricing that can be found. The book is also in the multi-buy deal on the 3dtotal website too, which offers great value. Taking into account that 50% of all profits at the publisher are donated to charity on top of this, you can’t go wrong here with what you pay. Verdict Overflow: The Art of Bryce Kho is a spectacular showcase of the talent of the artist in a well-made and designed artbook. Whether you want to know more about the man himself, or are looking to add more of his work to your collection, you won’t be disappointed with what you find inside. Though there are different techniques and styles throughout, it still has Kho’s fingerprints all over it, making it perfect those that admire what he creates. After enjoying his last artbook with 3dtotal last year, this became a must buy for me and I’m happy to say I was not disappointed!
