Avengers: Doomsday is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, marking the beginning of the end for the Multiverse Saga within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unsurprisingly, an artbook is on the way as well, continuing the long running series that began in 2008 with Iron Man. Reintroducing Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom through concept art, Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday - The Art of the Movie arrives this December along with the movie.

Spotted on retailer listings with the above placeholder cover, including on Amazon US, it is set to arrive on December 22nd, just 4 days after the movie hits the big screen. The 224-page hardcover book currently has no description, which is somewhat unusual for the publisher, but also expected. When Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art of the Movie was revealed in the same way earlier this year, the description gave away the movie's plot synopsis, so this is very likely Marvel avoiding the same issue again.
As mentioned in that report, the short wait is newer for Marvel artbooks, who have taken between 3 months to years after each project to release them, but Brand New Day and now Avengers: Doomsday are taking just days. Whether this will stick remains to be seen, as they have delayed or cancelled the last 27 books in a row. However, the fact this is the target is a least a great sign that Marvel are trying to strike when the iron is hot and get the books onto the shelves of more fans.

The price is also note worthy, as it will be $50, continuing the change in direction seen with Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art of the Movie. The artbook for The Fantastic Four: First Steps was $150, a steep price for even the most dedicated fans and was a one and done for Marvel, following a handful of prior releases were at an already high $100 to add a slipcase. It could be this was too damaging for sales, so Marvel have reversed course and gone back to releasing the series without a slipcase to sell more copies, even dropping from the previous $60 to $50 to stay competitive, a huge win for collectors and those that love the movies.
Inside we can expect the usual superb artwork from the visual development team, who have been instrumental in helping shape the MCU since it began 18 years ago with Iron Man. Concept artists like Ryan Meinerding, Andy Park, Rodney Fuentebella, Wesley Bert, Karla Ortiz, and many, many more, get wonderful showcases in these books, often getting to share some insights through interviews as well. There may not be a description, but it's not needed this far along into the series, because we know we can expect concepts for characters, costumes, locations, technology, and more, with excellent page design and artist credits throughout.
Marvel are making moves to get their 'Art of' series back on track after the long waits and high prices that have troubled them since the Multiverse Saga began. It's hard to maintain a high quality with dozens of books in the series, but they have done it so far and so if they can hit this date for Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday - The Art of the Movie, it will no doubt be a big seller.
