The upcoming release, 'Indie Game Works: Inside the revolution that's transforming how we play', to give the book its full title, is arriving in soon from publisher Thames & Hudson and will be a dive into the art and making of some of the biggest indie titles in gaming. Today though, a Limited Edition was announced and is shipping right now from Read-Only Memory for those that can't wait any longer to dive in.

The upcoming book will feature 256 pages and is a visual showcase of 50 indie games, including Cairn, Eastward, Sable, Tunic, and Planet of Lana. The standard copy of the book will arrive April 13th in the UK and May 12th in the US, but the newly announced Limited Edition is already shipping, as shared today on social media.
Read-Only Memory shared that their new version of the book can be ordered right now on their website and it's already shipping, which you can find here. 1000 copies are available for the Limited Edition and it comes as a cut flush hardcover inside a handmade slipcase with foil typography. Being an exclusive and Limited Edition, it doesn't come cheap with its higher price tag of $142. You can check out some page previews below.
This isn't the first time that Read-Only Memory has done an exclusive version of a book for Thames & Hudson either, because in 2024 they released versions of WipEout Futurism: The Graphic Archives with different covers for the in-game racing teams. As with that book, this exclusive version of Indie Game Works will give fans the chance to add something a little more special to their shelf, which is also rewarded with an earlier release.
Indie Game Works is an exciting look at a huge range of titles that helped shape the indie scene, offering a look at screenshots and early artwork to highlight the wide range of incredible looking releases, alongside interviews and details about each game and their development. It's a celebration of 15 years of special experiences that had a huge impact on players, despite their smaller scale and production.
From the beautiful watercolour visuals of GRIS, to the colourful and crazy designs in Journey to the Savage Planet, the upcoming book make for an interesting mix of genres and styles, with the images and interviews giving readers a peak behind the curtain at the 50 games. Check out a full list of the titles included below, as well as the cover for the standard edition.
