On The Artbook Collector YouTube channel I have shared a look at the 2020 release for the critically acclaimed side-scroller, with The Art of Cuphead!
Released in 2020 by publisher Dark Horse, this hardcover book explores the artwork and insights of Studio MDHR's rubber hose style 2D shooter. Cuphead was widely praised for its vintage art style, one that even got it adapted into an animated series, so an artbook was inevitable. The 264-page book can be previewed below!
The 1930's hand-drawn animation style was unique to video game when Cuphead was released, which is explored in the artbook through the early sketches and concepts for the characters, bosses, and stages. Final designs and painted background are also showcased, alongside insights from the developers with a look at their process.
Following the release of this book, two more were published by Dark Horse in 2024. First was The Art of the Cuphead Show, based on the Netflix animated series on September 3rd. Next was a look at the base game's DLC with The Art of Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course. You can check out their book pages for video previews of those as well.

Cuphead is a run-and-gun platformer published in September 2017 and loved for its 1930s cartoon-inspired visuals and tough difficulty. It follows brothers Cuphead and Mugman who must repay the Devil by taking on challenging bosses. The hand-drawn animation, jazz music, and precise, fast-paced gameplay made it a huge hit, despite requiring a lot of perseverance. Cuphead sold over one million copies within two weeks and more than six million copies worldwide within a few years, making it one of the most successful indie games released.
