Lost in Cult are working away on a number of Design Works books that have been announced as part of their series, with Alan Wake: Design Works no doubt set to be one of the most popular entries so far. The publisher has given fans an update on the book, highlighting that the revisit to the Dark Place is much grander than anticipated.

Alan Wake Design Works

When revealed in summer 2025, the hardcover book was set be be approximately 250 pages like the other Design Works releases, giving plenty of space to explore the original game, American Nightmare, and Alan Wake 2. However, people that have pre-orderd the book have been given an update via an email, and it seems that this simply wasn't enough to cover Remedy's beloved series. The email has shared that their will be around 90,000 words that cover the interviews and development of the games, now shared across a huge 450 pages.

This is giving people a lot more bang for their buck, but it does have a downside, which is that the release date has been moved out of 2026 and into February 2027. Given the expanded scope of the book, driven by author Alex Spencer's time interviewing the team at Remedy, a delay is a small price to pay to shine the torchlight on as much of the series and details as possible. Lost in Cult also shared somew new page previews of Alan Wake: Design Works too, incuding the below.

Inside the book will be a deep look at how the games came together, told in large part through interviews with the minds behind Alan Wake, the artists, actors, and more. This is all alongside artwork, screenshots, and photos, making it the ultimate companion to the strange world set in Bright Falls. The good news is that the book can still be pre-ordered through the Lost in Cult website.

Alan Wake is the biggest series the Design Works books have covered, which often focus on much smaller, but no less brilliant games such as Tunic and Ultros. Lost in Cult have been on the front line of physical releases for indie games, including books, vinyl, board games, and now physical games, so a popular series like Alan Wake is a wonderful addition to bring attention to their ever-growing catalogue of products.

This is a highly anticipated release for fans, but especially for those that are familiar with the Design Works books, because they are superb deep dives into unique games worthy of a showcase. On the website, you can read my glowing reviews of Ultros: Design Works and Outer Wilds: Design Works, both of which are highly recommended. Outside of the series, they also recently revealed MOUSE: P.I. For Hire Official Art Book, an artbook for the hit rubber-hose noir shooter.

Any future updates for Alan Wake: Design Works will be reported here as they happen, and head over to the Lost in Cult website to order the book and discover their other releases.
