Animal Well: Design Works Revealed by Lost in Cult

The Design Works series shows no signs of slowing down as another is revealed by Lost in Cult. The 2024 Metroidvania indie hit Animal Well is the latest addition to the growing collection of deep dives from the publisher.
Animal Well: Design Works was announced on social media and like previous Design Works reveals, it is already available to pre-order from the Lost in Cult website. The book will feature insights about the making of the game from Billy Basso, Dan Adelman and the team at Bigmode. It covers the long development of the indie title, from early prototypes to its final form, alongside screenshots, designs and more from the game.
Animal Well was released in 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X and Nintendo Switch. The game was created by solo developer Billy Basso over a period of 7 years and became the first published title from Bigmode. It has players navigate a world of puzzles and platforming as a survival horror Metroidvania that is full of animals, both friendly and hazardous. It was met with critical acclaim and nominated for numerous awards, with a win for Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction at the D.I.C.E. Awards.
Like others in the Design Works series, there is a Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition. But take note, the Deluxe Edition will only be available to order until July 1st, so be sure to grab this before then if you want the extras found below.

Also available is a vinyl of the soundtrack for £29.99, which boasts the full track list plus some that were previously unreleased. The B-side has the game's soundscapes with a locked groove. This can be bought individually or as a bundle with either version of Animal Well: Design Works.
Lost in Cult have become relentless in their releases of books and vinyl soundtracks, with game publishing details to be revealed soon too. It's an impressive output for the size of the UK based company, that will no doubt continue to grow.

These are not dedicated artbooks, but art can be featured heavily, so it is a series for collectors and fans to be aware of.
