Outer Wilds threw players into an alien solar system in 2019, trapping them in an endless time loop that ends with its central star exploding. A less perilous way to explore the title from Mobius Digital was through Lost in Cults' book, Outer Wilds: Design Works, which now has a retail version. Sadly though, for those in the US and Canada, the wait for a copy has been pushed to 2027.

This is a strange delay, because the UK release is now available from publisher Expanse as of October 8th, 2026, with the US edition previously set to hit shelves on November 24th. Now though, the book is coming on January 5th, 2027. The reason for the delay is unknown, as is often the case, but while different dates from one country to the next are not uncommon for books, a delay of one and not the other is.

This hardcover version of the book will contain all of the same content as the original, which has since sold out. Previously, it was only available through the Lost in Cult website, where you can find other Design Works books. This one however was picked up for a wider retail release, with the new cover art seen above. You can also see previews of the original version below.

The original book was superb and so this new version comes highly recommended. It shares the development history of the game, told in large part through interviews with the creative team, but also comes with wonderful concept art for the characters, worlds, ship, and more. Future updates on this version of Outer Wilds: Design Works from Expanse will be reported as they happen, and those interested in the book can order a copy here;
