- The Art of S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 Hit With Another Delay
May 15th 2025 Fans of GSC Game World's first-person shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the upcoming artbook, following another setback. The Art of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl has been delayed again, at least the fourth time it has happened, but fortunately it is not a long as changes that came before. The last delay moved it to November 4th, but now the book from Dark Horse has been pushed another 3 weeks, to November 25th. This 208 page hardcover book will feature concept art and commentary from the team and comes with an RRP of $55. It will give players a look at the art for characters, weapons, creatures, environments and items of its game world. You can expect a good quality book from Dark Horse, who are very consistent with their releases and well known to anyone that owns or collects artbooks. The book was announced last September with a release date of May 27th 2025. A long gap between a reveal and release is not unusual, but unfortunately, nor is delaying a book soon after. The following delays moved the due date to June 17th, September 16th, and finally to November 4th, which was reported here in December. Like before, this delay was spotted while checking the Dark Horse website , something done often and so this is very recent. No reason again is given, but delays are in most cases done under the radar, only noticed by people that are tracking books or have pre-ordered them. It's hard to speculate as to why the delay has happened, as ordinarily they happen come to release, but in the case of this book , delays are occurring much earlier. The game itself was delayed due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, where the studio is based, so this could be the reason for delays of all work done by the studio. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl was released on November 20th 2024 for PC and Xbox consoles, with continued speculation of a PS5 release coming in the future. It is a survival horror FPS and is a follow up to the three previous instalments, the last coming in 2009. It has had more than 6 million players and is beloved for its more realistic and difficult approach to gameplay, something that makes it stand out in the genre. With the series having a strong fanbase, this is an artbook that will be on the radar for a lot of people. When it finally arrives, The Art of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be joining the collection, so you can expect previews and a review to be found here. Hopefully there will be no more schedule updates, but there is still 6 months to go until it is currently set to hit shelves, so if any more changes are made, I'll be reporting those as well. If you are wanting to add the book to your own collection, you can pre-order it here; Tags; Based On: #STALKER2HeartOfChornobyl Series: #STALKER Publisher: #DarkHorse Studio: #GSCGameWorld
- Book Review - The Art of Elio
May 24th 2025 Pixar are back with Elio, their 28th animated feature that is set for release in June of 2025. As has long been a tradition for the studio, there is an artbook too and it is already available. The Art of Elio has joined the collection here so I can jump in and give you my review of their latest entry in the artbook series. For those that have not heard of Elio, the movie follows a young boy who hopes to meet aliens and has his wish granted. However, following his abduction, he finds himself being thrown into the role of the leader of Earth in the Communiverse, surrounded by other strange and quirky leaders of alien species. Being Pixar, you can expect a heartfelt story for people of all ages, with top tier animation as always. The previews seen below are spoiler free, so if you wanted to find out more about the book, but want to see the movie before reading it yourself, there’s no need to worry in this review. It was a strange choice to release the book before the movie, but Disney did the same thing with The Art of Moana 2 and The Art of Inside Out 2, so it's not a first for them. Animation artbooks have been very good at coming out alongside the movie they are based on, but early is an odd approach and it will be interesting to see if this continues. As always, I will cover the book with my usual five points; build quality, content, credits, use of space and value, with an overview and my thoughts on each. Build Quality The book was once again published by Chronicle Books, so owners of other Pixar artbooks know what to expect here. The book comes as a hardcover with 174 pages, although online listings have it 160, but more often than not I have found that they are incorrect for artbooks. The binding is also very good in the copy I have and it’s a good size too, coming in at 23.5cm x 28.5cm. For lack of a better word, the pages are very ‘glossy’, meaning that although gloss paper is often used in books like this, in this case they feel very slick. It doesn’t take away from the quality in anyway, they just feel noticeably different than in other books. The only small issue I can find is that the pages don’t want to lay completely flat against the covers when opened, not an uncommon issue, but it does affect some pages that I will touch on later. The print quality of this book should be pointed out because it’s fantastic. The colours throughout are vibrant and everything is clear and crisp. Although most artbooks are strong in this regard, this did jump out at me more so than usual, especially as some of the art is full of bright colours. Content As you would expect from a Pixar book, The Art of Elio delivers a wide range of art for all aspects of the movie. Fans are treated to early sketches, concepts, storyboards, unused ideas, poster art for Elio’s room and some photos too. It would be easy to fill a book with amazing illustrations, but the studio has always been good at showing the early art and how it then develops. The early sketches are a highlight for me, particularly with the characters, as even though they don’t have all the fine details, the ability of the artists to convey so much emotion and personality is always impressive. The art throughout from the team is superb as expected, filled with charm, expression, interesting locations and colours that jump off the page, all in a variety of styles and created with different techniques. The book has art made with pencils, pens, watercolours, digital painting, renders, clay and practical materials. It’s an interesting mix showcased here, highlighting the different skills and materials used in the creation of the movie. The Art of Elio does a good job of balancing the different focuses, with main characters and locations getting more pages without neglecting side characters and background designs. Some books also have storyboards as their own chapter in a book, but they are placed throughout which I really like. The little snippets of unused ideas are also fun to see and always appreciated. The pages for Glordon and Lord Grigon are favourites of mine, seeing the art at different stages for both as their characters come together has me more excited to see them in the film. Another nice inclusion in a double fold out for the colour script, which I feel is an improvement over other Disney artbooks. Although I’m personally not often a fan of a fold out, the extra space works and makes it clearer than seen in previous entries. The text throughout is from the various members of the team, from the director and story manager, to the artists and designers, each adding details about the characters and locations, as well as the thoughts and approach to what they were working on. It’s not a text heavy book, the art is the clear focus, but the paragraphs used throughout are thoughtful and add interesting insights that are welcome additions to the pages. For content then, you can’t go wrong with the The Art of Elio and I could write a lot more about the inclusions and what I like. Pixar have been doing this for some time, with this entry proving that they have mastered this aspect of creating an artbook. Credits Another win for this book comes with the crediting of artists, as each image is credited on the page, along with the technique used to create it. It’s the best way to do it and Pixar have always been very good at making sure you know who is responsible for what you see. There is not much else to say here, they aced this part of the review. Use of Space While 174 pages doesn’t make this the biggest artbook out there, they do make very good use of those pages and so you get a lot packed in. You won’t find wasted space or issues with image sizing, as everything is clear, readable and well organized. The page backgrounds come in different colours and the layouts vary from page to page to keep it interesting too. My only issue here is that because the pages do not lay completely flat, images that cross the centre fold can suffer. It’s not as bad as it could be, the art isn’t cut off, but it is obscured because of this, though it is less of an issue toward the centre of the book. Value The Pixar artbooks have always been on the lower end of pricing, with the RRP for The Art of Elio being $45/ £35. This is a good price point and for fans it is well worth the money. However, artbooks can often be found below the RRP, even shortly after release and this one is no different. I use Amazon for comparisons to stay consistent and on Amazon UK, the book is 30% off just days after its release, which was May 20th. Stock on Amazon US seems to be low at this time from third party sellers, but can be found from Amazon themselves at 7% off. The book did come out a week earlier in the US, on May 13th, so more stock may be coming. These are great prices, which is good news for those wanting to add the book to their collection. Verdict The Art of Elio is another superb book from Pixar that highlights the incredible talent of their team and offers a wonderful collection of art for fans. The mix of content and presentation will be welcome on the shelves of those who love Pixar, collectors and artists. The overall quality of the art itself, but also the book it comes in is as good as it gets, even more so at the price point. Minor setbacks aside, the artbook series from Pixar and Chronicle Books continues to offer those that love animation another great way to enjoy the worlds they see on screen. May 23rd 2025 The latest preview on The Artbook Collector YouTube channel is a look at the recent release, The Art of Elio ! Pixar is back with another artbook, which comes as no surprise as they release one alongside every feature film. It is unusual though in when it was released, as it is out a full month ahead of movie. Inside there is concept art, storyboards, colour scripts and more for the latest offering from the studio. The art style from the team is as charming as ever, with a look at characters, aliens, settings and ships, alongside insights from the development team. - The Art of Borderlands 4 Has Been Announced
May 20th 2025 Dark Horse continue to add to their library of video game artbooks with another for the upcoming 'looter-shooter' Borderlands 4 from Gearbox. The Art of Borderlands 4 will come in the standard Dark Horse format, a 9" x 12" hardcover book, a good size that always comes with the publishers reliable high quality. This release will have 224 pages and is authored by Rick Barba, who also worked on The Art of Assassin's Creed Shadows from earlier this year. The release date is set for September 30th, with pre-orders going live today. The artbook will feature a look at the concept art, sketches and renders, as well as the expected insights from the development team. Like previous artbooks for the series, expect this art to cover the new characters, the environments of Kairos, enemies and of course, the weapons of the game. The Art of Borderlands 4 book cover This was an artbook I had predicted would likely become a reality, as highlighted in my Artbook Predictions for 2025 Video Games . This was based on there being two previous entries for Borderlands, The Art of Borderlands 2 from BradyGames and the The Art of Borderlands 3 from Titan Books. Dark Horse stepped into the hectic world of the series with The Art of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands for the spin-off. This is now the second artbook it has worked on with Gearbox and 2K, which will undoubtedly be most welcomed by fans. Borderlands 4 launches on PS5, Xbox and PC on September 12th, only a small window of time before the artbook, something not often seen in recent years. The FPS series is known for starting the 'looter-shooter' genre, it's over the top characters and insane number of weapons. It began back in 2009 and has since launched 3 mainline games, The Pre-Sequel, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, multiple DLC's across the series and 2 releases from Telltale Games. Future updates will be reported here, as well as previews and a review when it arrives later this year. - The Toxic Avenger: The Art and Making of the Movie Coming This Year
May 19th 2025 The Toxic Avenger is making its return and is as over the top as ever. Director Macon Blair’s reimagining of the 1984 cult classic is set for a theatrical release in 2025, bringing with it a new companion book. The Toxic Avenger: The Art and Making of the Movie is set for release on September 16th from publisher Titan Books and offers a deep-dive into the irreverent world of Tromaville. The book comes with a glow-in-the-dark hardcover and will highlight the concept and production art for the outlandish movie across 160 pages. It will also include insights and commentary from the director, cast and crew, so you can get a true behind the scenes look and how it all came together. The Toxic Avenger stars Peter Dinklage as a downtrodden janitor who is transformed after falling into toxic waste, becoming a mutant hero called ‘Toxie’. It has a great cast that also includes Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Julia Davis, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon. This new version of movie brings the satirical and outrageous series to the modern world, providing a slime covered look at corruption, greed and pollution. While it is not unusual for movies to get ‘Art and Making of’ books, it can be seen as a win for this instalment of the series following the turbulent release it suffered. It was originally shown at movie festivals, starting with Fantastic Fest on September 21st 2023, then moving on to others, including Beyond Fest and the Sitges Film Festival. Since then, they struggled for a long time to get a distributer for a wider release due to the graphic content. Fortunately, it secured a distributer in Cineverse this year and is expected to be shown in cinemas on August 29th 2025, almost 2 years after its festival debut. The Toxic Avenger: The Art and Making of the Movie is available for pre-order now and those interested can do so here; Tags; Based On: #TheToxicAvenger Publisher: #TitanBooks Studio: #Cineverse #LegendaryPictures

- The Art of Still Wakes The Deep Gets a New Release Date and Additional Chapter
May 15th 2025 In a new update, Cook & Becker have let fans know about a couple of production changes to their upcoming book, The Art of Still Wakes The Deep . In an email to those that have pre-ordered the book, the publisher have given the news that the book will not be released this month as originally planned. This follows the last delay that pushed it the end of May. The book can now be expected in a couple of months, coming sometime in July, but the reason for this is a positive one. The additional time to work on the book is needed because the game developer, The Chinese Room, have requested that another chapter be added. More content is never a bad thing, but what will be included in this new addition is currently under wraps. You can read part of the email update that was received today here; "Everything is print-ready and looking great - as you have come to expect from Cook and Becker and Lost In Cult. However, we received a last-minute request from The Chinese Room recently to add an extra chapter to the book... We can't yet reveal the content of that chapter, so you'll have to wait until the book arrives to discover it. Unfortunately, this addition means we cannot ship the book this month as previously communicated, but in July." Also included in the email is a link to read the second chapter online, titled Building the Beira. It consists of 24 pages and includes concept art, models, screenshots, signage, and more for the oil-rig that the game takes place on. It also features insights into the game design too, with quotes from the developers on the features they used and design choices, explaining the reasoning behind them. Based on this chapter alone, fans are going to get some informative deep dives and a nice variety of art and models. It's much more text heavy at the start of the chapter, but allows later pages to focus on the work of the artists. It's an approach that works well and this teaser leaves me looking forward to reading the rest of The Art of Still Wakes The Deep. The book was made in collaboration with Lost in Cult and can be pre-ordered on the Cook & Becker website here . This site will report any future updates, as well as a review and previews when it arrives in summer. Tags; #StillWakesTheDeep #TheChineseRoom #LostInCult #CookAndBecker #Delay

- Book Review: Sea of Thieves: The Art of Piracy
May 14th 2025 Sea of Thieves from Rare continues to be a hugely popular online game, even 7 years after its launch. Following a large amount of additional content being rolled out by the developers, and more recently it’s move to PlayStation, the release of a second artbook is perfectly timed for players old and new. Sea of Thieves: The Art of Piracy is a look behind the scenes at the art for the game, from 2018 until present day. The book is available on May 20th 2025 and comes by way of Titan Books, long time publisher of artbooks for video games. It’s a follow up to the first artbook, the now unfortunately rare 2018 release, The Art of Sea of Thieves . This will be a relief to many that missed out before, presenting an opportunity to finally add a book for the seafaring title to their collection. I have now sat with a copy of the book and can share my thoughts on whether this loot is worth your time. My reviews cover the following 5 points to break down what to expect and my thoughts on the book; build quality, content, credits, use of space and value. Build Quality This release comes with a hardcover, 240 pages and high quality paper. This is all business as usual for a video game artbook and that’s never a bad thing. The binding is also very strong and not to tight on the signatures, as the pages lay fully flat when opened. Where Sea of Thieves: The Art of Piracy is interesting though, is that it doesn’t feel like it comes from Titan Books. Collectors will be aware that for video games, the two big publishers are Titan Books and Dark Horse. Typically, Dark Horse release their books as portrait hardcovers, with no dust jacket and at a size of approximately 23.5cm x 31cm (9”x12”). Titan Books do portrait and landscape books, but the former are a similar size, often just a little shorter and with a dust jacket. The Art of Sea of Thieves was released by Dark Horse in their format, but having moved over to Titan Books, I was expecting a dust jacket and slightly different dimensions. This is not the case however, as it is presented in the exact same way, which is highly unusual. Perhaps this was a request from Rare to have them match, as the previous book is referenced in the intro, implying this is a direct follow up. Whatever the reason, this was unexpected and the only instance I can think of where this has happened. This is no way a bad thing and great if you are fortunate enough to own the first artbook. Below are a couple of comparisons, the first is to a standard Titan Books release, in which you can see a small size difference. The second is to The Art of Sea of Thieves, which shows the matching format. Content If you have seen art online or own the first book, you know you’ll be getting some superb art for charismatic character designs and locations that pop with life. The style and colour palette of Sea of Thieves is a part of the games appeal and adds to its sense of fun. I’m not an art critic, but if you’re a fan of the game and its visual presentation, you’ll also be a fan of the art too. As you would expect from covering 7 years of content, there is a lot packed in to Sea of Thieves: The Art of Piracy. This is a positive and a negative though, depending on what you want from a book like this. The chapters are split into years and each is presented in the same way, with some additions depending on what was added that year. For the most part though, they feature sections of art for characters, cosmetics, enemies, and changes, all in that order. It’s a nice and easy approach to follow that tracks the rollout of the added content. For each segment you will find concept art, illustrations and 3D models, along with commentary that speaks to the game and lore of what you are seeing. You get a lot of the charming and fun art style of Sea of Thieves for all aspects of the game. People that have been playing for a long time will enjoy a look at the updates, including the new locations, seasons, Tall Tales and more. The Hungering Deep, Devil’s Roar and Fate of the Damned are just a few of the content updates people will find, which also doesn’t include the post-launch cosmetics, characters and pets that have been added to Rare’s pirate world. The downside to this is that because it covers so much, not everything has space to shine. The previous book has many pages dedicated to early sketches and concepts, however, you won’t find that here. In the goal of trying to touch on as much of the content as possible, it means that a lot pages and sections feature final designs only or depict just a single moment. That's not to say the book lacks these elements, it still has a healthy amount, only that there is less of them than before. It does feature less environment art too, which was a highlight of The Art of Sea of Thieves, so this came as a disappointment, but what you do get is spectacular as always. The sections on changes are a nice inclusion and puts of spotlight on the work that was done for the game each year. Without this, it would look like more art was created for assets that were simply added on, so the thought to point out the work of the rest of the team at Rare paints the full picture of the game's growth. The text describes the lore and backstory of characters and locations, with some speaking to the game itself. This is all well placed and informative, without overstaying its welcome or coming across as vague and generic. Credits It is unfortunate that I have to report the worst for credits, because there are none. In an artbook, if artist names are not given on each page, which isn’t uncommon, then I would expect to see a list in the front or the back of the book instead. Neither happened in this case, which is a shame. There are some names listed on the Acknowledgements page, but these are not the names of concept artists or designers that created the wonderful art the book is full of. The short list does include directors, but this isn’t a substitute for entire teams. People wanting to know who worked on the game will have to search online, something that shouldn't be the case. Use of Space Sea of Thieves: The Art of Piracy does a great job at filling each page and not wasting space. The layouts are easy to read, with a mix of image sizes and the inclusion of double page spreads. Each page is laid out differently to mix it up and the background colours change too. There is nothing fancy here, but that often works best and allows for as much art to fit in the book as possible, without compromising the quality of it. Value The book comes with an RRP of £34.99/ $44.99, a good price point and on the lower end on what you can expect to pay for release this size. Better yet, at the time of writing this, you can already find this up to 18% off just a week before the official release. This information is based on Amazon, a site I use for my reviews to maintain consistency. For a quality hardcover and 240 pages of art, there is good value here, especially considering the price increases found for most things you buy now, a great result for those wanting a copy Verdict Sea of Thieves: The Art of Piracy delivers a large amount of outstanding art that will be more than welcome on the shelves of players, in particular those that have been playing for a long time or own the first book. While there is less early art than seen in that last book, the design here has allowed many years of work to be given a showcase and it is all well presented. The price of the book in combination with the timing of its release is fantastic and makes it recommendable for those that have been out at sea for a long time, as well as those that are new to the life of piracy. - The Fantastic Four: First Steps Artbook Will Come with an Additional Volume
May 12th 2025 The upcoming artbook for The Fantastic Four: First Steps has had another update that comes with positive news for fans. The previous information left a lot to be desired, but now there is a reason for the change, as it comes with a second book. Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art of the Movie is currently due on November 18th and is listed for $150. You might be thinking that's a lot of money, because it is, much more than most collector's editions of artbooks. It was a major concern that I spoke about in my previous reporting, as the listings took it from 400 pages to 256 while maintaining that high price point, you can read that story here . Now though, it looks like the justification for the second price hike in the space of year is to add an addition book to the slipcase, Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps Portfolio. The second placeholder cover art for Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art of the Movie Like the last update, the information has been confirmed on the same websites including Amazon , Target and Barnes & Noble . Listings in other regions are not all available, with some, like Amazon in the UK, having it as unavailable and not yet up for pre-order. It's not clear what this new portfolio book actually includes, as it is described as the following; " MARVEL STUDIOS’ THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS PORTFOLIO HC includes a stunning gallery of never-before-seen artwork. " This is what you expect from all Marvel Studios' artbooks, so the distinction between the two isn't yet apparent. At the very least it does explain the high price point, as for a good while it looked like another increase for just an extra 32 pages. It may also be the case that the original information that stated there would be 400 pages is correct after all. The last price increase was to add the slipcase and lithographs, which started with Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine: The Art of the Movie in October of last year. This will continue with the artbooks for Agatha All Along, Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*. I pointed out in my review of the book for Deadpool & Wolverine that the price felt too high for the extras, but an additional book certainly makes another increase easier to justify. It will be interesting to see if this will be implemented again going forward. If I had to speculate, I would say it is much more likely for the movies, especially Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars given the large cast and scope. As much as there is a lot of excitement around the return of Marvel's first family, it would be odd if only The Fantastic Four: First Steps got the double book treatment. There is also the upcoming artbook for Daredevil: Born Again that was confirmed by artist Jackson Sze, there are no listings yet, but when there are it will be an indication of whether the TV projects will get the additional portfolio book as well. It's good to be able to report some positive news for the Marvel Studios' artbooks following multiple delays, as they have always been very good when they do finally hit store shelves. It must be acknowledged though that this might not be the best news for some, because the economy is tough for a lot of people. The series going from $60, to $100, and now $150, is an expense that may cause many to pass on this entry in the long running series. At the very least, for fans that can spare the money, they can now see the increased value for that price tag. Should these details be updated again in the future, they will be reported here and you can pre-order Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art of the Movie below; Tags; #Marvel #Marvel #FantasticFour #MarvelCinematicUniverse #DeadpoolAndWolverine #FantasticFourFirstSteps #MarvelStudios #Disney

- Details Updated for The Fantastic Four: First Steps Artbook
March 10th 2025 The upcoming artbook for The Fantastic Four: First Steps has been updated on retailer listings, though expected, they don't come without concern. Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art of the Movie is currently due on November 18th and first appeared on Penguin Random House with some unanticipated information. You can find that report here . I mentioned in the article that there was always a chance placeholders were being used and that things could change, as has now been the case. The original details were as follows; Titled 'Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art and Making of the Movie' Includes a slipcase and lithographs 400 pages RRP $150 These are the new details; Titled 'Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art of the Movie' Includes a slipcase and lithographs 256 pages RRP $150 This has been confirmed on new listings, which includes the websites Amazon , Target and Barnes & Noble , with some having the option to pre-order too. Penguin Random House have also edited their page. There are two notable changes to be highlighted. First, 'and Making' has been dropped from the title 'The Art and Making of', which makes sense as all pervious books have been called 'The Art of'. The Marvel artbook titles are pretty lengthy as it is, so this is good for not only consistency, but for listings and posts too. The second change is the page count, which has dropped to 256. This is a shame of course, as 400 pages would have been been great for fans wanting more art. However, 256 is still more than the other books released after the Infinity Saga, which were capped at 224. The one thing I'm sure fans were hoping would change, but didn't, is the price. $150 is very high for an artbook, especially when comparing it to others on the market with similar content. A jump from $60 to $100 was made to add the slipcase and lithographs, which as mentioned in my review of Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine: The Art of the Movie, felt like too much to ask from a value perspective. To now add another $50, for just an additional 32 pages, is a bold move that even the best sales person couldn't put a positive spin on. This pricing is well above deluxe edition versions of other artbooks, which can often include higher page counts and more extras. $50 can also buy you a brand new artbook for a movie or game with more than 250 pages, which further highlights the value issue, should it remain at this price point. While there is still a chance things could change again, when multiple retailers are posting the same information, that becomes less likely. It's also worth noting that delays are frequent with Marvel Studios artbooks, so the release date is subject to change as well. Should these details be updated again in the future, they will be reported here. - Flip Through: The Art of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
May 9th 2025 The Artbook Collector YouTube channel adds another preview this week, this time it is for The Art of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag ! The Assassin's Creed series has a lot of artbooks, with each mainline game getting a dedicated release since Assassin's Creed III. This one from Titan Books highlights the art behind a fan favourite, Black Flag, and comes with 192 pages in a hardcover. The art for the series has always been incredible, leaving little wonder as to why there has now been so many artbooks. It's a look at not only what it takes to make the games, but as they take place in various periods of history, they each come with new settings, costume designs, weapons and in some cases, boats and transportation. This book features a look at the concept art for characters, weapons, locations, ships, battles and more. The environment art has often been a standout and it's no different with Black Flag. Island vistas, towns, villages, coves, ship wrecks and more are all beautifully depicted in the work from the team. The character art also shows that the artists at Ubisoft have an incredible talent for not only creating interesting people, but distinct costumes that fit the time period of the game as well. Set during the Golden Age of Piracy, Black Flag follows Edward Kenway, an Assassin navigating the Caribbean seas. The game combines Ubisoft's open-world gameplay and expanded ship exploration with their stealth and parkour gameplay. It boasts multiple detailed islands, busy ports and the dangerous ocean, while delivering a strong story too. The game was released in 2013 on PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Stadia and Wii U. Check out the preview in the video above and subscribe to see more artbooks each week! - Captain America: Brave New World Artbook Suffers Another Delay
April 9th 2025 It's bad news again for fans of the Marvel Studios' artbooks as Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World - The Art of the Movie has been hit with another setback. The first delay moved the due date from June 10th to June 24th, a relatively small change compared to most from Marvel, who publish these books themselves. The new delay is again only by a couple of weeks, but now places its release on July 8th. As is the norm for artbook delays, you won't find a reason given online, they are simply updated on retailer listings. The cover artwork for the slipcase It is also the 24th entry in a row to be a victim of this problem, which is every book since the Infinity Saga ended. The pandemic can account for some with supply issues, but it's still happening to this day. If you have been visiting the site, you'll know I'm often reporting on delays, especially from Marvel. When I last reported on the book, it was for the cover reveal along with Marvel Studios' Loki Season 2 - The Art of the Series , in which I stated that when the final cover art is made public, this issue become less likely. However, following the news of this release shift, as well as for the artbooks based on Agatha All Along and She-Hulk before this, it no longer seems to be the case. The launches and the price points are a real shame, because the quality of the art and the books is always very high. You get a look at the early designs and ideas with insights from the art team, all delivered in page design that wastes no space. I'm sure that despite these issues and the lack of any real promotion, they sell well though. It will be interesting to see the reaction of fans going forward with the price increase to $150, starting with Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art of the Movi e in November. The book will be joining the collection here, so previews and a review can be posted when it arrives, hopefully in July. - Multiple Marvel Studios Artbook Rereleases Have Been Delayed
April 8th 2025 Publisher Titan Books has been busy with their work on the series of artbook rereleases under the banner, Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga. Currently 11 of these books have hit shelves so far, with another 7 listed on their website, but more than one has now been pushed back. For those that are unaware, Marvel Studios are bringing back their movie artbooks for the Infinity Saga run. The originals began with the first Iron Man in 2008 and ended with 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. The books were released along side the movies, but the majority have now sold out and can be expensive on second hand markets. These new Titan Books versions have the same content, but are reprinted in slightly smaller books and come without a slipcase, something included in the originals. This trade-off means that the incredible artwork is being made available again at a very reasonable price. Newer fans and those that missed out before can buy the books for their favourites or collect them all as a matching collection. The next couple of releases have been unaffected and are currently expected to hit their due dates. These are planned as follows; May 27th 2025 - Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga - Captain America: Civil War - The Art of the Movie June 17th 2025 - Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga - Doctor Strange: The Art of the Movie Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga - Captain America: Civil War - The Art of the Movie The confirmed delays as seen on the Titan Books website can be seen here; July 8th 2025 > August 26th 2025 - Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: The Art of the Movie August 19th 2025 > October 7th 2025 - Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga - Spider-Man: Homecoming - The Art of the Movie September 30th 2025 > November 4th 2025 - Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga Thor: Ragnarok - The Art of the Movie November 11th 2025 > February 3rd 2026 - Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga Black Panther: The Art of the Movie These delays range from 7 weeks to almost 3 months and no reason has been given, though as it is often said here, that's usually the case. Artbooks are delayed often and aren't exclusive to any one publisher either, with even one as big as Titan Books suffering setbacks. In the case of The Infinity Saga series of rereleases, delays have happened in the past and as they are released in order, when one is pushed back, the rest follow. Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga Black Panther: The Art of the Movie However, there is one that has not yet been given a delay, Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga The Road to Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War - The Art of the Marvel Cinematic Universe . It is still listed for December 23rd, but given that the original was released after the artbook for Black Panther, expect this to move to March 2026 at the earliest. This book comes with a mouthful of a title and features art from the previous movies, collecting character art for the key players ahead of Infinity War. Included is a look at the early concepts and designs for The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Spider-Man and more. It's perfect for those that don't have all of the previous books and want a single volume to dive into. In the original run of artbooks, there was also The Road to Avengers: Age of Ultron - The Art of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, this was not included in the Titan Books series, as it also collected art from previous movies, making it redundant in the new collection. There will be a second 'Road to' book for Endgame though, which collects art for characters, including those introduced in Infinity War, but also concept art for the Infinity Stones and their appearances throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga The Road to Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War - The Art of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Yet to be listed are artbooks for Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, Road to Avengers: Endgame, Avengers Endgame and finally, Spider-Man: Far From Home. These may not be revealed for some time, but it is safe to say they will be listed for April and beyond if there are no more changes to the new schedule. Although delays are frustrating to those waiting for the books, these have been coming out at a good pace. Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga - Iron Man: The Art of the Movie was released on November 14th 2023, so by the end of this month there will have been 12 published in 18 months. If you collected the original run when they were coming with each movie, it took over 10 years to get them all. As someone that owns the originals and has picked up one of these rereleases, I can say I would be happy to recommend them. The artists at Marvel Studios are some of the best in the industry and produce superb concept art for the heroes, villains, key moments, storyboards, settings and more. The low price of these books in combination with the quality and volume of art offers incredible value. You can check out a comparison video I made last year below and see for yourself. Future updates and announcements will be posted on this website and those interested can find Marvel Studios' The Infinity Saga collection here; Tags; #Marvel #MarvelStudios #MarvelCinemtaticUniverse
- Clans: Björn Hurri Returns to Kickstarter with His Next Book
April 5th 2025 Concept artists and industry veteran Björn Hurri is back with another artbook and the Kickstarter campaign went live today. Clans , the title of the new book, will feature 248 pages of art in a 210 x 210mm hardcover and is a follow up to ORO, which was also funded through the crowdfunding platform. Clans extends the fantasy world created by Hurri, this time exploring its factions and again focuses on character and creature design. It is the third book in the series, with the first being 2021's Abominations. The Kickstarter, found here , needs €25,000 to reach its funding goal before it ends on June 4th, but is already well on its way to getting there. The early bird copies at a lower price are already selling out as I write this, despite the Kickstarter having just launched. This is all a great sign for Hurri and the team, showing that fan support is there yet again. The new release comes in two editions, Standard at €39 and Premium at €99, but only the Standard Edition will be sold at retailers when the campaign ends. The Premium Edition comes with an alternative cover, signed bookplate and the Swag Pack that features 9 prints and a poster. This Swag Pack will also be available as an add-on. Like many Kickstarter campaigns, there will also be stretch goals that unlock with each funding milestone. Bookmarks, prints and more will be available through these for anyone that pledges for a copy of the book. Backers can also add additional copies of Clans, or the previous books, ORO and Abominations too, providing even more options and the chance to collect them all if you missed out before. The Björn Hurri edition of Sketch.Box can also be added on. The Kickstarter campaign is being run by Spiridon Giannakis, known online simply as Spiridon, who has successfully run campaigns for over 20 artbooks, including Björn Hurri's ORO. This includes another upcoming Kickstarter, Tributes: HR GIGER, made in collaboration with the Giger estate, you can find that here . Éditions Caurette are the publishers, having worked on many artbooks since they were founded in 2016. A preview from Clans posted on X Björn Hurri is a concept artist that has worked on predominantly games, but also film and TV, for over 20 years. In that time he has been a part of over 150 projects and is currently an art director at Opus Artz, mentoring artists. He creates incredible character and creature designs, leaving little wonder as to why he has had such a long and busy career! Game series he has worked on include Assassin's Creed, Dead Space, Bioshock, Destiny, God of War and Sea of Thieves, highlighting the range of projects he has worked on. Outside of his fantasy series, Hurri's art has been printed in many 'Art of' books for video games and he frequently shares artwork online. - The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic: Volume II Delayed to August
April 5th 2025 Another delay has hit the upcoming artbook for Phase II and III of The High Republic. The release from Abrams Books was last set to hit shelves on July 3rd, after a previous delay shifted it from June. The new release date for The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic: Volume II is dependant on where you are from. The US release date is now August 19th as confirmed on retail listings. However, in the UK, some sites are now displaying it as due on August 28th. It is worth noting that different dates for different regions isn't new for Abrams Books or books in general. Cover art for The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic: Volume II This is far from the first delay, with the book having been previously planned for April 29th, May 13th, June 17th and, as previously mentioned, July 3rd. When this delay happened is unknown, but was spotted when checking retailer listings. Dates are frequently checked, so it can be reported as a recent update. This is also indicated by the fact that not all online stores have updated the details. The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic: Volume II will feature art for Phases II and III of the multimedia Lucas Publishing series. The High Republic stories are set 500 - 1000 years before the Skywalker Saga and are told in comics, novels and books. As a follow up the the first volume, fans can expect lots of concept art and illustrations for the characters, worlds, wildlife and more.
