August comes to an end and September arrives to deliver an exciting onslaught of artbooks for new modern hits and iconic classics. 11 books are set to release for the month, so prepare your wallet for this fantastic list of releases!
1st - Giger's Alien (Reprint)
The month begins with a reprint of 1979's book Giger's Alien, a look at the artwork and production photos behind the visuals of one of the most iconic horror movies of all time. The Xenomorph was designed by Swiss artist H.R. Giger, who not only created the concepts for the various stages of its horrifying look, but also worked on the movie itself.
The 80-page hardcover from Titan Books shares his unique paintings and a look at the practical sets and suits being built, as well as Giger's diary which he wrote while working with Ridley Scott on the movie. It's a brutally honest diary from an artist working within the movie industry for the first time, including the highs and lows he experienced when helping create Alien.
1st - The Art of Octopath Traveler: 2020-2023
Dark Horse is bringing the artwork early in September with The Art of Octopath Traveler: 2020-2023
made in partnership with Square Enix. This is the second volume of art for the series, this time covering Octopath Traveler II and Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent.
The book was originally released in Japan in 2023, but Dark Horse now deliver an English translated edition to the West, sharing the early artwork and developer insights across 224 pages in a hardcover book.
1st - Print Screen. Celebrating 15 Years of Video Game Art
Publisher Cook and Becker are releasing a look at more than 150 pieces of artwork for video games, including essays and artist insights. Print Screen. Celebrating 15 Years of Video Game Art features the artwork the publisher has sold as prints for an eclectic mix of titles, including Okami, Mass Effect, Journey, The Last of Us, and many more. From early concept art to stunning illustrations, this is a great way to celebrate video games and their incredible imagery.
A Collector's Edition boasts the 225-book, as well as an added slipcase, and a giclee art print, with the Anniversary Edition also adding a 32-page book with a peak behind the curtain of Cook and Becker. You can order all three versions exclusively on their website here;
1st - The Art & Making of Highlander
Titan Books goes back in time again, this time with a new book, The Art & Making of Highlander, celebrating the movie's 40th anniversary. The first dedicated artbook for Highlander dives into the 1986 classic with artwork and photography, perfect for fans and film buffs wanting to know the details behind its production. Interviews shed light on how Connor MacLeod's adventure was brought to the screen with never-before-seen visual material, making this the perfect companion to the film.

8th - The Art of KPop Demon Hunters
After a free digital release and an exclusive softcover release from Gallery Nucleus, The Art of KPop Demon Hunters is getting a wider launch as a hardcover, which is much needed given the huge success and popularity of the movie.
Concept art through to final designs are shared for the visually striking animation, presented across 144 pages with notes from the creators and written details from author Tracey Miller-Zarneke. KPop Demon Hunters can be celebrated in a new way through the talented artists that helped it become a global hit, now as a highly anticipated physcial release.
15th - The Art of Gravity Falls
Animation fans love an artbook, so many are excited to get lost in The Art of Gravity Falls from publisher Hyperion Avenue. Creator Alex Hirsch and his team share a look at the making of the show with pages packed with artwork, including episodes that were not used. Gravity Falls was full of strange and wonderful moments, with the book aiming to share how the artists and creators brought them to life.
15th - The Fifth Element: A Visual Retrospective
Not done taking movie fans back in time to iconic movies, Titan Books takes us behind the scenes of a cult-classic with The Fifth Element: A Visual Retrospective. The 256-page book shares a wealth of art with early concepts, illustrations, and blueprints. All of this is alongside photos and interviews that detail how the movie came to fruition. The Fifth Element is a celebrated sci-fi movie with a lot of fun designs, making this a book fans can get excited about ahead of the movie turning 30 next year.
15th - The Art of Endless Legend 2
Titan Books is keeps them coming in September and also partners again with game developer Amplitude Studios to release The Art of Endless Legend 2. This is a look at the 4X strategy game, diving into the early artwork and designs for the locations, units, and factions, of its fantasy universe.
If the first book, The Art of Endless Legend, is anything to go by, this will be another fantastic showcase of the art team's talent that includes designs for the characters and units used during gameplay, but also depictions of battles and scenes as well. You can see that book below.

22nd - The Art of Betty & Veronica
Titan Books end their busy month with another look into the past, this time going as far back as 1950 with The Art of Betty & Veronica, celebrating the characters from Archie Comics. This is a rerelease of the 2012 book that was released by Archie Comics themselves, giving more fans a chance to look at the long history of Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge.
The 160 pages share illustrations for the 'frenemies', sharing artwork from Dan DeCarlo, Harry Lucey, Bob Montana, Dan Parent, and more. You can order the book below;
29th - The Marvel Art of Mike del Mundo
Clover Press shine the spotlight on comic book artist Mike del Mundo with the 8th book in the ongoing 'Marvel Art of' series after another successful Kickstarter campaign. The Marvel Art of Mike del Mundo features over 200 pages of art in an oversized hardcover, with Mundo's impressive for Spider-Man, Elektra, the X-Men, and more, perfect for those that enjoy his work and want something special in their collection.
29th - Dirty Donny Must Be Destroyed: The Art of Donny Gillies
We round out the month with a look at the art of Donny Gillies, aka Dirty Donny, with a volume of pieces from across his career for posters, merchandise, and more. It collects both new and old art, including unique UV blacklight pages, rare works, pull-outs, and the written details for them. Dirty Donny Must Be Destroyed: The Art of Donny Gillies will show his fans some of his best work and why he became an influential name in pop cultture art.
