January 1st 2026

After leaving 2025 and it's impressive library of artbook releases behind, we move into 2026 with high hopes for another strong publishing schedule.

December ended last year on a high, delivering fantastic titles, with Kickstarter books arriving too as a cherry on top. In January things slow down though, as sadly the new year has already begun with heavy delays, turning what was once a month of seven releases, into a month of just two. Hopefully this isn't a sign that things will repeat themselves, as early 2025 was light on releases as setbacks pushed many of them into the backend of the year. Video game fans have a couple to look forward to this month as you will see here.

6th - The Art and Making of Sid Meier's Civilization VII

The Art of civilization 7

Insight Editions is providing the first release of the year with a look at the massively popular strategy game Civilization VII that was released in February 2025.

The Art and Making of Sid Meier's Civilization VII will not only provide insights into the making of the latest entry in the series, but interviews with the developer will reflect on the franchise as a whole. Alongside this will be concept art, historical research, and photography that the Firaxis Games team put together when creating the game across the book's 256 pages. The foreword is provided by the series creator himself, Sid Meier.

This will no doubt be exciting for long time players of the series and the many newer fans that are younger than series itself, which is now almost almost 35 years old.

27th - The Art of Rust

the art of rust

After a troubled release schedule consisting of 6 delays, The Art of Rust from publisher Dark Horse and developer Facepunch Studios is ready to hit shelves and give fans a look at the concept art that helped build its world.

Coming as a 192-page hardcover, the book will feature art for the equipment, armour, weapons, environments, vehicles, wildlife, assets, and more, for the game. Rust was released in early access in 2013, with a full release in 2018, so there is a lot for the team to show to those that have been enjoying playing the game. Given that this is a heavy crafting title, expect to see a lot of assets included that allow players to build the fortifications and tools needed to survive the island and, of course, other players!

You can order a copy of The Art of Rust to your own shelf below. A copy is also joining the collection here too for review.

Updates for these books will be reported as they happen, with more future artbook releases found on the Upcoming page!

These books were also featured in my Artbook News Roundup video for December 2025, which you can see below. To catch up on last months releases, visit last months list here - Upcoming Artbooks: December 2025.
