'Shovel Knight: Ultimate Design Works' Delayed into 2027
October 31st 2026
Sad news has come again for fans of Yacht Club Game's Shovel Knight, because another delay at the finish line has hit the updated artbook for the series. Shovel Knight: Ultimate Design Works is now no longer expected this year, as it has been pushed into 2027.
As spotted in listings online, including Amazon, the 276-page volume is no longer coming in November, but will now make its way to shelves on February 9th, 2027. The book was expected in May 2026 before the last setback, which also happened just before its expected release. The reason publisher Udon Entertainment has delayed the book is unknown, but another 3 month push this late is uncommon.
What isn't uncommon though are artbooks delays, with Udon unfortunately being one of the companies that is the most consistent for them. Previous releases had multiple date changes, including Elden Ring Official Art Book Volume III and The Art of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, a title that had so many delays that I ran out of ways to word the same thing each time it happened. Hopefully, for the players of Shovel Knight that are looking forward to diving into the early artwork of the games, this is the final update.
Inside Shovel Knight: Ultimate Design Works will be the early concepts, sketches, and illustrations for the original game, but this edition also expands on the 2017 book, Shovel Knight: Design Works. More art for the characters, levels, weapons, and more will be shared for other games in the franchise, adding over 100 new pages, bringing it up to 276. The 2027 edition will also be a hardcover, a big improvement to the previous softcover, helping with the long term preservation of the book and reading experience.
Any further changes for Shovel Knight: Ultimate Design Works will be reported as they happen, and a copy will be joining the collection here to be reviewed when it arrives on February 9th, 2027. If interested in ordering a copy of your own, you can do so below;
