The upcoming artbook for the third instalment of Avatar has had new updates, exciting fans that are looking forward to seeing the concept art behind the visual powerhouse.

The Art of Avatar: Fire and Ash was revealed here in December following an early listing for the book, but this new update has replaced the placeholder cover with the official artwork, as well as changing the release date. You can see the new cover with art from Dylan Cole below.

The upcoming hardcover from publisher DK is now coming July 21st 2026, moving it back in the month after the original listing gave it a July 2nd release. Dates often change in the artbook world as many readers and collectors will know, so this is not unexpected and may have also been an early placeholder.

The 272 page count and description remains the same though, and it comes with an RRP of $50 or £35, both of which are very reasonable for a book of this size. Previews have also been shared online, which you can see below;

These updates can also be taken as an official announcement, because when the book listing was reported in December, it wasn't available to view on most websites, with some only showing the book in search results using the ISBN number. To add to this, it has also now been shared on social media by the movie's production designer Dylan Cole.

The official description is as follows;

"Explore the magnificent behind-the-scenes artwork underpinning James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. Discover how crucial scenes were conceived and marvel at the incredible attention to detail that the Avatar artists brought to the development of new characters like Varang, leader of the fearsome Ash People, and aerial creatures like the medusoid and windray.

Hundreds of spectacular images convey all the power, beauty, and intricate detail with which the Avatar film franchise has enthralled millions all over the world. Written in full collaboration with James Cameron’s production company Lightstorm, Art of Avatar: Fire and Ash provides a unique window into a visionary movie universe."

Avatar: Fire and Ash has made over $1.4 billion at the box office, continuing the series' huge success. The visual effects and visual design are incredible, possible in no small part because of the talented artists working with James Cameron and Wētā Workshop. If the previous book, The Art of Avatar: The Way of Water, and the previews are anything to go by, this will be another excellent addition to the shelves of fans.

Dylan Cole also released a s superb artbook last year, Creating Worlds: The Disney and 20th Century Studios Cinematic Art of Dylan Cole, which also includes artwork for the first Avatar and The Way of Water, among other movies. You can read a review of that book here - Book Review - Creating Worlds.

Future updates on The Art of Avatar: Fire and Ash will be shared here and those interested can pre-order the book below.
