'Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art of the Movie' Continues Marvel's Run of Artbook Delays

After changing format, bringing up the book release closer to the movie premier, and being hugely anticipated, Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art of the Movie has become yet another book delayed by Marvel, making it the 28th Marvel Cinematic Universe artbook in a row to miss its original release date.

It's not the longest delay, only by two weeks, moving it from August 4th to August 18th 2026, but it is still frustrating if you are someone that collects these books and are all too familiar with Marvel's reliable unreliability. The new date can be spotted on online retailers, including Amazon US, who are often the first to update their listings.

The reason for this is unknown as is the norm, but it could be to avoid spoilers given that pages of the book were already shared online by media outlet AIPT, who have since taken down their review. Having the book come out just days after the movie was a spoiler risk, because it would mean getting the book to retailers early and risking copies getting out into the wild, so it would make sense for this to be the reason. However, it could also simply be down to other scheduling issues.

Just a couple of days ago, I also reported that Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday - The Art of the Movie was delayed and given no new release date, which could also be a response to having Brand New Day's book leak early. That would now be the 29th in a row to be delayed and/or get cancelled by Marvel. This is every artbook for the Multiverse Saga, and while artbooks are delayed all the time, the comic book publisher of 86 years is much more consistent with them than most.

The last time I reported on the book was for the cover reveal, in which I also highlighted that the book is smaller than most, only coming with 208 pages, which is possibly a reason for the lower RRP of $50. It's dimensions are also smaller too, listed as 11.59 x 0.66 x 9.65 inches, as opposed to 11.75 x 0.75 x 9.75 inches, highlighting yet another format change for the series that has been running since 2008 with The Art of Iron Man. Dimensions are one of the details that can be incorrect though, so we will confirm if this is the case when the book finally hits shelves.

Hopefully, this will be the first and only delay for the book, following their more recent releases that have avoided multiple delays like those in the past. The last release was for Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps - The Art of the Movie which came as a 'Deluxe Edition' with a slipcase, prints and 32-page booklet. Marvel have abandoned the slipcases for the artbooks with a look at the art behind Brand New Day and Doomsday, which is good for fans wanting a significantly lower price point.

Although always plagued by delays, the artbooks are filled with superb artwork from the incredible talent behind the designs of the characters, locations, technology, and moments of the MCU. This will also be a good chance to see the artwork from members of the Visual Development team before Disney laid all but one person off earlier this year. This look at the web-slinger will no doubt feature an amazing collection of concepts for the movie, including Fank Castle's debut in an artbook.

Future updates for Spider-Man: Brand New Day – The Art of the Movie will be reported here should they happen before its new release date of August 18th 2026, and a copy will be joining the collection to be reviewed as well. Those interested in pre-ordering a copy can do so here;
