This week on The Artbook Collector YouTube channel is a look at The Legend of Korra: The Art of the Animated Series - Book Two: Spirits!
This hardcover book from Dark Horse showcases the art for the second series of the animated show, The Legend of Korra. Inside is a dive into the concept art, sketches, storyboards, illustrations, animation exploration, and more, making it perfect for fans that want to see how the visuals came together for the show. The artwork covers the characters, creatures, and settings the series visits, broken down into chapters for each episode.
The book seen in the preview was the original release from 2014, a second edition was released with a new cover in 2021, also by Dark Horse. This was the case for all 4 books in the series, as well as the artbook for the original show, Avatar: The Last Airbender.
The Legend of Korra first aired in April of 2012 on Nickelodeon, ending with its final episode of season 4, known as Book Four: Balance, in December of 2014. Set 70 years after Avatar, The Last Airbender, the show follows Korra who is the new Avatar, able to manipulate all four elements; water, air, fire and earth. The series also takes the timeline into an era of developing technology, with steampunk-style cities and vehicles, bringing with it a more mature tone than its predecessor. The show was well received too and Korra remains a fan favourite in the inverse of elemental bending.
