This 244-page artbook from Abrams Books is available from July 1st 2025 and comes as an oversized hardcover. Readers can dive into the art behind the show, with a look at sketches, designs, illustrations and stills for the characters and settings, as well as storyboards for the scenes too. It also features insights from the creative team behind the show that gives fans information on how it all came together.
The hardcover book is not the first to be based on the series, as X-Men: The Art and Making of The Animated Series was released in 2020 for the original run from the 1990's. This is a direct follow up to that book, just as the show is, so makes the perfect pairing for those that enjoyed both.
X-Men '97 was released on Disney+ as a sequel to the beloved 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series, picking up right after its original finale. It continues the same art style, but adds a more modern shine too. It follows the mutant team as they deal with the death of Professor Xavier in a world that still fears them, as well as the continued threats from Marvel villains. The return of the series brings back characters such as Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine and Nightcrawler, appealing to both fans of the original series and a new audience discovering the iconic show for the first time.
