As May bows out, it's time again to look at the upcoming artbook releases over the next month to fill your shelves. There's a handful to look forward to, with comics and manga fans being treated in June!
9th - The Art of The Mighty Thor
Dark Horse are back with another entry in their Bullpen Books series, shinging the spotlight on The Mighty Thor and its artwork from comic legends Jack Kirby and Walker Simonson. Inside The Art of The Mighty Thor are scans of the artwork, including entire stories too, such as Thor 134, and issues 227 to 340. Fans will also find essays and comments, making this the perfect addition to the shelf for fans og the God of Thunder and the artists.
16th - The Art of Star Trek & Defiant
Across 65 issues Star Trek and Star Trek: Defiant created a huge story for fans to get lost in, but now readers can get lost in the art that helped it happen, with The Art of Star Trek & Defiant. IDW Publishing are releasing the 200 page artbook in June to shine a light on the cover art, concepts, and interiors that made up the comic series, exploring the designs of the the characters, aliens, locations, and more.
Over 65 artists are featured throughout, with some sharing their insights and process through interviews. Ramon Rosanas, Francesco Francavilla, Declan Shalvey, Rachael Stott, Malachi Ward, JK Woodward, Liana Kangas, Ángel Unzueta, and Angel Hernandez are just some of the artists that you will see artwork from inside the book.
16th - The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope—The Manga Volume 1
20 years after A New Hope was released, Hisao Tamaki adapted the story into a manga, creating a new way to enjoy the story with fantastic artwork. Now, Dark Horse are bringing the manga back, but as an artbook to give fans the chance to see the original sketches and line art, as well as a translation of the text.
The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope—The Manga Volume 1 shares the first half of the story and the original art boards, presented in the original right-to-left format, making this a wonderfully unique addition to the shelf for collectors. The second book, The Art of Star Wars: A New Hope—The Manga Volume 2 arrives on August 18th.
Please note that those outside of the US and Canada will have to import the book due to licensing restrictions.
16th - The Art & Making of Swapped
The latest animation hit on Netflix is getting the artbook treatment from Titan Books and Skydance Animation, exploring how the wonderful creatures and world of Swapped came together. The Art & Making of Swapped will share the early concept art and creator insights, including for the unlikely duo of Pookoo and Javan.
The 192-page hardcover should be another spectacular book following the last partnership from the teams on WondLa: The Art & Making of the Limited Series. It's already off to a good start with a wonderful piece for the cover art.
23rd - The Art of Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
Abrams Books are behind another exploration of a Marvel animated show, this time for the unique take on Peter Parker with The Art of Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. The 240-page hardcover will share a look at the early sketches, concepts, cels, storyboards, and more, celebrating the talent of the artists for the show ahead of the second season. As expected, it will cover the many characters of the Marvel Universe that have appeared the show, as well as scenes and locations, all with the vintage comic book visual style used in the animation.
23rd - Set Sail: The Art and Making of One Piece
Publisher VIZ Media have teamed up with Netflix to take readers behind the scenes of the first two season of One Piece, the live-action adaptation of the popular manga. It collects concept art, set photos, and interviews with the people that brought the world from page to screen, making this the best companion book for the series. Set Sail: The Art and Making of One Piece comes as a 208-page hardcover when it arrives on June 23rd.
23rd - The Art of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
Back on an upcoming list after yet another delay The Art of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will hopefully finally arrive after a year of setbacks. This time though, the date was posted by Udon Entertainment on social media, the first time they have acknowledged the book since it was listed online over a year ago.
This is an English hardcover version of the book that was released in Japan in 2023, so will finally be available to fans that have been patiently waiting. Inside it features artwork and character profiles for the 'soulslike' from Team NINJA.
30th - The Art of Star Wars: Andor
A highly anticipated artbook for Star Wars fans ends the month of June, sharing the concept art for both season of the fan favourite show Andor. The Art of Star Wars: Andor from Abrams Books plugs one of the artbook gaps for the live action projects, becoming the second release in 2026 after a long break in the series.
Readers can expect a collection of stunning artwork and insights from some of the most talented artists in the industry, covering the characters, props, ships, and locations, as seen in the other entries in the large catalogue of Star Wars artbooks. It covers both seasons of Andor, from its early concepts after the release of Rogue One, through to its finale.
The Star Wars artbooks have a insanely high bar of quality, whether it be for the movies and shows, or the animated releases and video games, so it's very unlikely this will disappoint. Earlier in the year Abrams Books released The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte, another superb release that should give people high hopes for the quality of this book as well.
