It's time again to look forward to what is coming over the next month as April bows out with just a couple of artbook releases. May picks things up with 6 new titles to look forward to with a variety of styles you can fill your shelves with!
5th - The Art of Star Trek: Lower Decks

IDW Publishing and CBS have teamed up to release this 192-page hardcover look at the animated show Star Trek: Lower Decks, giving reader a peak at the art that helped bring the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos to life. The Art of Star Trek: Lower Decks features early artwork, final designs, and creator insights as seen in the previews below.
This is the third artbook from IDW in a run that saw the release of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Art of an Undersea World in March and The Art of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Aril 14th. This new book comes with an RRP of $50/ £45 and can be ordered below.
5th - The Art of Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Rising Tide

Square Enix epanded the world of Final Fantasy XVI with two DLCs, Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide, giving players more sinnk their teeth into. Fans that enjoyed the addtional content can son get a look at the artwork behing it with The Art of Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Rising Tide.
The 92-page hardcover also acts as an extension in itself to a look at the base game in The Art of Final Fantasy XVI. and like that will feature art for the characters, enemies, locations, along with illustrations as well.
26th - The Art of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

After multiple setbacks that have seen this book delayed by almost an entire year, The Art of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will finally give fans in the West a look at the art and character profiles behind the fantasy RPG from Team NINJA.
The book was originally released in Japanese by Kadokawa in 2023 as a 192-page softcover, but the English translated edition from Udon Entertainment will be a hardcover, an improvement for the preservation of the book.
26th - The Marvel Art of Tyler Kirkham

Clover Press are back with their 7th entry in the 'Marvel Art of' series that highlights artists work on Marvel Comics in high quality hardcover books. After another hugley successful Kickstarter campaign, The Marvel Art of Tyler Kirkham is comign to retailers and features over 200 pages of Kirkham's art, including his work on Spider-Man, the X-Men, Venom, Moon Knight, and more.

26th - The Art of Toy Story 5

The animation classic returns in 2026, but not before the artwork of the movie is share in The Art of Toy Story 5. It continues the long running tradition of Chronicle Books and Pixar giving fans a look at the artwork for their movies, which is always full of personality and charm. The artbooks are always worth checking out due to their high quality and reasonable pricing!
There is still no cover art, so hopefully it is just being revealed late and the book is not being delayed.
26th - Shovel Knight: Ultimate Design Works

Udon Entertainment has a second release in May, this time with another re-release for an older artbook, but with some updates. Shovel Knight: Ultimate Design Works takes the original Design Works book from 2017 and upgrades it to a hardcover, along with adding more than 100 pages of art, covering all of Yacht Club's Shovel Knight games, rather than just the first release.
The original is a fantastic look at the early sketches and designs of the 2D sidescroller's enemies, bosses, levels, and more, so this will likely be a release well worth adding to your shelf, whether you missed out before, would like to see more art, or prefer hardcovers.
