Bad news has struck fans of the Civilization series, as the upcoming artbook for the latest game has suffered a delay less than a month before it was due to hit shelves.
Spotted on retailer listings, The Art and Making of Sid Meier's Civilization VII has been given a new release date, moving from October 21st 2025 to January 6th 2026. The 256-page hardcover from Insight Editions and the game's developer Firaxis Games will give players a look at the artwork behind the strategy game, as well as insights into how it was made.

No reason was given for the delay, which isn't unusual if you have read reports on delays before, nor was it acknowledged publicly by the publisher. It's not common for books this close to being released to get this much of a push either, as they typically become shorter at the closer they are to publication. The book was also listed in the Artbook News Roundup video for September as coming in October, but as this news came surprisingly close to the finish line, it happened the day it was shared.
The Art and Making of Sid Meier's Civilization VII will feature a foreword from the co-creator himself, Sid Meier, and take players through the development and concept art of the 4X strategy game. It includes interviews with the development team at Firaxis Games for insights on the latest instalment of the series, alongside the historical research that helped bring the game to life. It boasts designs and illustrations for the cities, wonders, combat units, and more, across it many time periods.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is the latest entry in the long-running franchise that launched in February 2025 on PC and consoles. The game added new changes that include letting players mix and match leaders and civilizations independently, and the dividing the history progression into three major “Ages”; Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. The series is now over 30 years old, with the original being published in 1991 and began the 4X genre.
