Giving people another reason to think about the Roman Empire, Dark Horse are back with another video game artbook reveal. They today unveiled that they are bringing fans of the Anno series a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming entry, Anno 117: Pax Romana, later this year.

The Art of Anno 117: Pax Romana is set for release on December 9th and is made in partnership with the game's developer Ubisoft Mainz. The 232-page book will feature a look at the concept art for Ancient Rome, going back more than 2,000 years in the past. It will also include commentary from the creative team, providing insights into the development of the city-building game. This book will be released in the 9" x 12" hardcover format we expect from Dark Horse, with an RRP of $54.99

The following statement from the Art Director Reiko Groß was also included in the press release;

“This Artbook is a testament to four years of research, development, and to an extraordinary creative journey: One that produced thousands of sketches and illustrations, shaping a fresh interpretation of the Roman Empire, in an unprecedented scale. Each page captures the evolution of our vision and the dedication, ambition and love behind it."

Anno 117: Pax Romana is a real-time strategy game that is coming on November 13th for PC, Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5. This is the 8th title in the series and set the furthest back in time, covering a 200 year period of the Roman Empire. It offers player the option to choose between ruling from Latium for the Empire, or from Albion for the Celtic Kingdom, acting as governor for their chosen side. While building and growing their empire, players can choose to pursue economic growth or gain more power to achieve success.

The first entry in the series, Anno 1602, was developed in 1998 by Max Design, making it a more than 20 year old franchise. The last release, Anno 1900 from Ubisoft Blue Byte, was launched in 2019 to positive reviews and increased sales, leading to multiple awards.

Previous artbooks for the Anno have been either digitally released or, in the case of Anno 1800, only included in a collector's edition of the game. Now that an artbook will be available to everyone, it will no doubt be on the radar for fans wanting to add art for the series to their collection.

Like these previous collections of artwork, expect The Art of Anno 117: Pax Romana to feature a lot of environmental art, including landscapes and the structures players can build from the time period.

The book is coming just a month after game launches, so it will only be a short wait for players wanting more from the game after conquering its world as a governor. Future updates for the newly announced title will be shared here and expect a review too when the book joins the collection on December 9th.
