The beloved and award-winning animated movie Flow is one of the most unique and visually stunning animated movies to grace our screens. After making waves in 2024, the cat-led adventure from Gints Zilbalodis and Matīss Kaža can be revisited in an exciting new artbook next year, with Flow: The Art of the Movie.
The hardcover book is being published by Farshore, the company behind other tie-in books for the movie and is now available to pre-order. It is set to arrive on January 28th, 2027 in the UK and the rest of Europe, and February 9th in the US and Canada. The look at the movie's artwork will set you back $34.99 in the US and £30 in the UK, which is lower end of pricing for its size and that's great news for people interested in the book.
Inside will share a look at the early concepts and designs for the animal characters of the dystopian story, as well as the locations they visit. It will also feature some notes to add insights into the creation of Flow, such as the decisions made for the designs and the development approach. Promotional art will also get a showcase, giving readers a full look at all of the work of the artists involved. You can see example pages below.
Flow is an animated movie that is free of dialogue and features a cast of animals that have been hit with a flood in a post-apocalyptic world. It follows a black cat that must work with other species, including a dog, lemur, capybara, and more, coming together to navigate this dangerous world on their boat. It was directed by Gints Zilbalodis and co-written with Matīss Kaža, receiving a cinema release on August 29th, 2024 after debuting at Cannes Film Festival earlier that year. It went on to win many awards, with the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature and the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature being the most prestigious for the smaller project.
Flow: The Art of the Movie will be on the wishlist for many fans due to the exceptional and painterly art style that makes it stand out visually. Animation fans are some of the biggest supporters of artbooks and Flow is more than worthy of receiving one, making this an exciting release to start of 2027.
