This week on The Artbook Collector YouTube channel is a look at an older book from 2003, but one that will be forever timeless, Mythology: The DC Comics Art of Alex Ross!

Titan Books published the book over 20 years ago to celebrate the superb artwork of Alex Ross and his contributions to DC Comics. It's packed with his recognizable style that brings a realism to some of the most iconic characters in comics, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and many more. Check out a preview of the book below.

Mythology was put together by writer Chip Kidd and photographer Geoff Spear to share a look at Ross' early life and art, his work for DC, and a inside peak at his process. Kingdom Come, Superman: Peace on Earth, Batman: War on Crime, and more are featured to share a look at his talent, which also includes early sketches and models, to give fans a real insight into what goes into creating the exceptional images.

This is not the only book that shares a look at the sketches and illustrations of Alex Ross, because the same team also put together Marvelocity: The Marvel Comics Art of Alex Ross, collecting more artwork, but for Marvel. This was released in 2018, 15 years later, sharing more illustrations and exploring the veteran's legacy in the comic book industry.

Alex Ross is an acclaimed comic book artist and painter from Portland, Oregon, renowned for his painted realistic style. he became most known for his work on titles like Marvels and Kingdom Come, as well as his approach to capturing a grounded visual style for Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Captain America, and many, many more, all a touch of nostalgia in their presentation. Ross is one of the most iconic names in comic books, with a long history of creating interiors, covers, posters, and other media, that continue to inspire artists around the world.
