Marvel was looking to break it streak of missing its last 25 original release dates in a row with the upcoming artbook for Thunderbolts. However, it seems they couldn't let that happen, as now it has become number 26, fortunately, it's a very short delay.

Due on August 26th, Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts: The Art of the Movie has been moved out by a week to September 2nd 2025. While this is not much to report on, it has become almost impressive how unreliable Marvel has become at setting a date and hitting it with their artbooks, despite being a publisher for over 80 years.

This book now joins Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine: The Art of the Movie, which was also only delayed once, and with any luck it remains that way. While I have been tough on the publisher because of this, it is because the artbooks have often been some of the best on the market, yet their handling of them is poor at best. They are playing catch up though, as this is still set to release 5 months after the movies hit cinemas, a much shorter wait that others, which in some cases have come 2 years later.

Thunderbolts: The Art of the Movie

Artbook delays can happen for a large variety of reasons, including licensing issues, schedule issues, production problems, editorial changes, changes in content, and more. Unfortunately, when you have fallen deep into double digits, in this case being the entire series of Multiverse Saga artbooks, it sadly becomes expected. At least from the outside, it comes across as a lack of care without any course correcting. I doubt there is a lack of care, but it is an optical nightmare in the eyes of collectors.

Again, this does sound harsh, but they have a proven track record with the Infinity Saga that they can release larger books much closer to the release of their projects, so the sudden change is confusing. I hope the improvements continue though and that the time between the studios releases and the publication of artbooks continues to shorten, at the very least for the movies.

Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts: The Art of the Movie will come with a slipcase and lithograph prints, retailing at $100. The book itself will feature 224 pages of art for the characters, locations and key frames. Expect a large focus on the characters in this one, as the settings of the movie aren't as cosmic or strange as others in the MCU, but also because the movie's focus was building this new team and the debut of Sentry.

The movie itself didn't perform as well as hoped at the box office, but was praised by fans as a stronger entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This book then should be on the radar for those that want more from Yelena, Bucky, Bob, Red Guardian, Ghost, John Walker, and Taskmaster.

Those interested can pre-order Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts: The Art of the Movie for when it arrives on September 2nd here;
