'Marvel Cosmic Invasion: The Art of the Game' Arrives with a Superhero Landing This Summer

The pixel side-scroller Marvel Cosmic Invasion was a big hit with fans when it released in December of 2025, delivering 90's inspired gameplay and visuals with a roster of fan-favourite characters. The retro-inspired graphics of the game will soon be celebrated further, following the announcement of a new artbook from Dark Horse, Marvel Cosmic Invasion: The Art of the Game.
Reported first by Gamespot, the upcoming book will deliver 120 pages of artwork that helped create the game's colourful visuals when it arrives on August 4th. The 8.5" x 11" hardcover will feature a mix of artwork, from concept art to illustrations, for the characters and locations found in Marvel Rivals, alongside commentary from the developers at Tribute Games.
The book is a little smaller than other releases, but much like the game itself, that is also reflected in the price tag, which sites at a very reasonable $30, which is fantastic news for fans. This is a welcome approach that sees a lower budget release getting the artbook treatment from a publisher that is one of the best in the space. This is all relative to other titles from Dark Horse though, as 8.5" x 11" is still a large book, last seen for the superb release, The Art of Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course.
The cover art for the book perfectly captures the 90's style of the characters, including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Storm, and She-Hulk, which is then carried over to the style of the game that is a throwback to the brawlers of the same decade. It makes it an artbook suited for players wanting to see more from Cosmic Invasion, but also those that have nostalgia for the time period of both Marvel and video games.
The short wait time is also a big win too, as artbooks are typically announced 5 months or more ahead of time, making 4 months a quicker turnaround time and less than a year after the Marvel Cosmic Invasion's release. Dark Horse have published multiple Marvel video game artbooks, including The Art of Marvel SNAP, The Art of Marvel Rivals, and The Art of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, indicating that the ongoing relationship between the publisher and Marvel Games is strong and will continue to incude multiple developers.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a side-scrolling 2D brawler that features a roster of iconic Marvel heroes to fend of a cosmic threat. Players can team up with up to three other people to fight through colourful comic-inspired environments, taking on enemies with unique character abilities and the environment. It also includes tag-team mechanics to swap between heroes that adds a level of strategy while playing. The game was released on December 1st 2025 and received favourable reviews amongst critics and players, making an artbook a tantalizing purchase for players.
