Get Lost in the Maps of Francesca Baerald with 'Unbound'

The artistry behind our favourite movies, games, shows, and more encompasses a lot, from the earliest concept art, to animation and promotional illustrations. Another element is the world of cartography, presenting the places and landscapes of amazing worlds through their maps. Live now on Kickstarter, Unbound will celebrate the work of prolific artist and cartographer Francesca Baerald, collecting her maps for some of the biggest franchises in entertainment.
Inside is a look at Francesca's art across 320 pages, giving readers a lot of maps to pore over from her career. The Italian artist has worked on Game of Thrones, Warcraft, Diablo, Dungeons & Dragons, and many more, making this a very impressive collection that highlights her wonderful catalogue of projects. Her maps are created using traditional methods such as watercolours, inks, and acrylics, hundreds of which are scanned and presented in this new high-quality book to be enjoyed.
The campaign for Unbound is already a huge success, making more than four times its funding goal, but there is still time to back the project before it ends on October 9th and secure a copy of the book for your own shelf. A trailer was also released for the project, which you can see below.
Unbound is huge as well, coming in at 42cm x 30cm, allowing the maps to shine with all their details throughout. Francesca also adds written details to the pages that add stories and notes on her approach to different pieces, a welcome feature that takes you behind the scenes of an artform that isn't often in the spotlight.
There are three versions of the book available to back for the project; Standard, Premium, and a very high-end Limited Edition, with extras available to order as well. The book versions are as follows;

Swag Pack
The Swag Pack is also available to be added to the Standard and Premium tiers, coming with four A4 prints, four A5 prints, and four bookmarks, giving collectors some extras to display on their shelf. All of this makes Unbound a thoughtfully created volume of beautiful maps from an industry veteran. Francesca Baerald has contributed to many of the worlds we have visited with her maps, and with most artbooks focusing on concept art and traditional illustrations, this is certainly an interesting and refreshing upcoming release.
Four out of five stretch goals have already been reached too, so every copy will now also come with a bookmark, additional print, printed endpapers, and stickers. This is always good news for those that supported the project, as well as highlighting the appetite for a cartography artbook and Francesca's paintings. The campaign is not far from reaching the final stretch goal of a second additional print with another 18 days to go of funding.
The project comes by way of designer Spiridon and publisher Éditions Caurette, both of which have worked on many successful Kickstarter campaigns, including another book I covered, AKREON from Anna Podedworna. This puts its production and design in the safe hands of people that care deeply about human created art and celebrating artwork with printed books.
