The artbook preview of the week on The Artbook Collector YouTube channel is headed back to 2005 with the The Art of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith!
The last Star Wars artbook published by Del Rey wrapped up the prequel trilogy, with over 200 pages of art and production images for Revenge of the Sith. Fortunately for those that want the book, it's not too difficult to find a second hand copy online, as was the case with one in the collection here. The books for the sequel trilogy, solo movies, and live action shows, starting with The Force Awakens, were later published by Abrams Books.
Inside this book are hundreds of pieces of art for the movie, including a huge amount of unused ideas that fans will really appreciate seeing. It covers the characters, locations, ships, vehicles, key moments, productions design, creatures, and more, really making the most out of the page space. All of the art is credited on the page and insights from the art team are also littered throughout, making this the perfect companion for viewers new and old.
Star Wars arguably has the highest quality catalogue of artbooks out there, expanding across movies, games, shows, animation, theme parks, and more. Not only are the books consistently of a high quality across many publishers, but the artwork speaks for itself. Some of the biggest names in the industry have worked on the franchise, including Ralph McQuarrie, Doug Chiang, Dermot Power, Ryan Church, and Erik Tiemens, to name a handful. The next artbook for the franchise to come out is The Art of Star Wars Outlaws from Dark Horse in partnership with Massive Entertainment, with no doubt many more to come for a long time.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith is now 20 years old, but the artwork and this book still hold up to what is being made today. Star Wars has picked up younger fans since then, so this book is still relevant today and worth adding to any collection.
