This week's preview on The Artbook Collector YouTube channel is a look back to 2016 with the return of DOOM!
It's a good time to go back to The Art of DOOM from Dark Horse and id Software now that they have released the latest game in the series, DOOM: The Dark Ages. After a long break, the series returned with more demon killing action just like the 90's originals, but modernised not just the visuals, but the gameplay too. It was a huge hit and then spawned the even faster paced sequel, DOOM Eternal, before the prequel to both games was launched earlier this month.
The Art of DOOM showcases the early concept art for its 2016 return, with a look at interesting enemy designs that were not used. It also includes a look at the locations, weapons, multiplayer characters, and the Doom Slayer himself.
The book is harder to come by now, having sold through its print run, but those that find themselves a good copy online will be treated to a wealth of incredible art that will make you want to play the game again.
The sequel also got an artbook from Dark Horse, titled The Art of DOOM Eternal, with the latest entry not yet having one announced. I had previously stated in my article, Artbook Predictions for 2025 Video Games, that 'The Art of DOOM: The Dark Ages' would be a safe bet. These days though, artbooks come out a long time after the game they are based on in most cases, so it could be a while before the book is revealed, if it is indeed coming.
