Skydance Animation are set to release their new animated movie Swapped on May 1st, introducing us to their new fantasy creatures and world. Not satisfied with showcasing the wonderful visuals in the final release, they have also partnered with Titan Books to give viewers a look at the designs that brought them to life in a new artbook, The Art & Making of Swapped.

The hardcover book arrives a month after the movie, with a publication date of June 16th, and comes the painterly cover art seen above. It will feature 192 pages of concept art, 3D models, and insights for the upcoming animation, giving readers an inside look at how the talented artists help craft Pookoo, Javan, and Boogle, as well as the rest of the cast and the colourful locations of The Valley it takes place in.
This is a book that animation fans can get excited for, because this isn't the first time that Skydance Animation and Titan Books have released a book together. WondLa: The Art & Making of the Limited Series was released in December 2025 and was a fantastic release, matching the quality found in the Pixar and Disney Animation artbook series that have been going for a very long time. You can read about that book and get an idea of what to expect from this upcoming release in my review.
Swapped follows Pookoo, a small otter-like creature voiced by Michael B. Jordan, who switches bodies with an exotic fantasy bird called Javan, voiced by Juno Temple. These natural adversaries have to learn to work together in their goal to find the magical plant that can swap them back. They must survive The Valley and the dangers it brings, all while learning to use a body that is completely alien to them, as well as things about each other. The movie will be available May 1st on Netflix and is directed by Nathan Greno, who previously worked on other animated movies, including as a co-director on Tangled.
Any future updates for The Art & Making of Swapped will be shared here, as well as a review when the book arrives June 14th. The books can be pre-ordered for your collection now using the links below.
