The bio-punk world of Urbance is headed to Kickstarter for a release of a huge collection of the sci-fi comic, but this comes with a welcome surprise for fans, as it also includes a return of the artbook, Genesis of Urbance.

This is an exclusive first look at the 10th Anniversary edition of the 168-page book from publisher Magnetic Press, which is included in the upcoming Kickstarter campaign, giving those that missed out on the book in 2016 the chance to add it to their shelf. Joël Dos Reis Viegas's Urbance began as a animated short, before becoming a comic, and this artbook is packed full of the bold designs and artwork behind its world and characters.

The Kickstarter from Oni Press and Magnetic Press has been created to help fund a release of the comic book, delivering the 828-page story across four softcover volumes, or two hardcover books, as well as other options and extras. This was the perfect opportunity to bring back the sold-out artbook to make the campaign special, now with a new 10 Anniversary cover, as seen above.

Urbance was created by Joël Dos Reis Viegas and developed at Steambot Studios, beginning as an 8-minute animated short film after a successful Kickstarter campaign. After going viral, Joël took Urbance to the page with comic book, expanding the story and world of the animation, taking readers into political tensions, youth‑clan dynamics, and the underground drug scene in the cyberpunk setting of Neopolis.

Speaking on the comic, Joël Dos Reis Viegas said the following;

“While the animated pilot only scratches the surface of what rules Neopolis, the graphic novel series dives much deeper into the dark side of the society and human tensions. Keeping the core elements — the virus, N-Dorphin, the protagonists, and Coevo — and reimagining a story about two youngsters, shaped by division, who are forced to come together against adversity. So I chose a more aggressive and dark visual treatment to better match the story’s more mature tone. URBANCE is a reflection of my passions, my art style, and my fears.”

The Kickstarter is not yet live, but once the campaign begins, the full 828-page comic series and the Genesis of Urbance artbook will both be available when backing the project.
