'The Art of Zootopia 2' Delayed to November

Disney's Zootopia 2 is headed to theatres on November 26th, marking the fan requested return of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. As expected, Disney have partnered with Chronicle Books to release an artbook for the animated movie, but the wait will now be a little longer than originally planned to get a copy.

The Art of Zootopia 2 is a 172-page hardcover book and was set to be published on October 28th, but listings online have now been updated with a release date of November 18th. The date on UK listings is the 20th, however as books are published on Tuesdays, expected this to move forward or to the following week. The reason for the delay is unknown, but this is par for the course when it comes to artbook schedule changes.

The book is still set to be sold ahead of the movie's release, which isn't unusual for artbooks based on Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar movies. This most recently happened with The Art of Elio, The Art of Inside Out 2, and The Art of Moana 2. It isn't a typical arrangement for artbooks, as most come out after, be it by days, months, or in some cases, years. This is especially true for Disney, who have their artbooks based on Marvel and Star Wars projects come a long time after their debut. In the case of their animations though, fans can either get an inside and spoiler-filled look ahead of seeing the movie, or grab a copy immediately after enjoying their trip to the cinema.

The Art of Zootopia 2 will give fans a look at the early sketches and ideas for the characters and locations of the upcoming release, as well as the storyboards and colorscripts too. As expected, there will also be insights included from the team behind the art and movie through interviews.

The Chronicle Books releases are always worth checking out as they are of a good quality, well designed, come with artists credits throughout, and are priced very fairly too. It goes without saying for those that have bought an animated Disney book release before, but the art is always superb, oozing with the charm and fun you see on-screen, even in the earliest designs and sketches.

Zootopia 2 will once again follow Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) in the animal filled city of Zootopia. This time they go undercover to investigate a new mysterious snake that has made its way to the city, played by Ke Huy Quan. The movie has been requested for a long time following the success of the original in 2016 and boasts a large cast of actors, which also includes Idris Elba, Nate Torrence, and Fortune Fiemster.
