New York Comic Con is underway and as always it brings a lot of news and reveals for many universes in nerd culture, including Star Wars. This year it brought the announcement of another entry in Lucasfilm's vast artbook catalogue, The Art of The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The Art of the mandalorian and grogu

Authored again by Phil Szostak and published by Abrams Books, this release will not only dive into the upcoming movie, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, but also the third season of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. The book is set for release on April 28th 2026 and currently has a placeholder cover. Retail listings for the book are not yet live, but expect these to appear soon with updates on the page count too.

The official description from stawwars.com is as follows; "Author Phil Szostak gives insight into the concept and creation of the visual elements of the Clan of Two’s first big screen adventure. The Art of The Mandalorian and Grogu also includes a look back at artwork from season 3 of The Mandalorian as well as moments from The Book of Boba Fett."

The inclusion of two TV series is an interesting one, as prior to this, the first two seasons of The Mandalorian got the artbook treatment and left fans wondering where the third was, as well as The Book of Boba Fett that also went without one. Din Djarin was featured heavily at the end of that series, making it a continuation of his own story and so it makes sense that if it isn't going to get its own book, it would be featured in this release too. It does highlight in the description that it's only moments from this show included, so it may only focus on the last few episodes with Din and Grogu.

Other series are also without their own artbook, as currently Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ashoka, and Skeleton Crew are also missing from the line-up. The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte was announced in the summer of 2024, the first book revealed after the release of The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season Two), and it set for release January 13th. Since then, The Art of Star Wars: Andor was also unveiled and plugged one of the previous artbook gaps, as it will cover both seasons of the show when it arrives May 19th 2026.

With Abrams Books now down to a few shows left to showcase the concept art for, it wouldn't be a surprise if Ashoka had multiple seasons covered in a future artbook as seen for Andor. The Obi-Wan Kenobi and Skeleton Crew series are still up in the air though, because there is no news on more seasons.

Another thing of note is that 'Star Wars' is not featured in the title of The Art of The Mandalorian and Grogu, which would be a first, though this could change when listings go live for pre-orders.

It's good to see Star Wars getting back into the swing of releasing artbooks in 2026 after a 4 year gap. The releases for the live-action movies and series have always delivered fantastic artbooks in the past and were sorely missed. The video game world have had a couple of great releases though, with The Art of Star Wars Outlaws and The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor from Dark Horse offering a superb look at other corners of a galaxy far, far away to fill the shelves of fans during the gap.

A copy of The Art of The Mandalorian and Grogu will be joining the collection here to be reviewed, but until then, any future updates on the release will be shared as they happen.
