Despite being given a new release date in April at Star Wars Celebration Japan, a delay has hit the upcoming artbook for the Disney+ series, The Acolyte.
The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte was announced last summer at SDCC for release in July, but then all went quiet on the book until a couple of months ago. In the last update, the cover was revealed for the book, along with a new release date of October 7th, making that its first delay. Now though, the book has been moved again, this time to January 13th 2026, only spotted when checking the listings on retailer websites.

This is unfortunately a classic move in the artbook space, a big fuss about announcing a book, but then quietly pushing the release date back with no public acknowledgement. Delays, as explained on this site weekly, are very common and there are usually more delays to report than announcements when it comes to 'Art of' books
With books like this it is especially odd, because although Star Wars is a huge franchise, this show in particular didn't perform as Disney had hoped, leading to its cancellation. Pushing the date out then will only shrink the already limited potential audience for the book. This has no bearing on the quality of the contents, but as someone looking at this from the outside, it isn't a good situation for a release.
Disney have a similar issue with the Marvel Studios' artbooks, dating them long after the release of a show or movie, only to then delay them further and out of the minds of fans. This can often be reflected in their position on Amazon book lists, placing them much lower down than other artbooks based on IP that isn't anywhere near as popular. Fortunately in the case of The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte, its ranking isn't too bad, indicating it has been selling pre-order copies, which is good news for publisher Abrams.
The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte will give buyers a look at the art behind the series set during the High Republic period. It is set to feature the concept art for characters, vehicles, weapons, locations and more, with insights throughout as expected. The Star Wars artbooks are always of high quality and showcase the work of incredible artists, so although it will be a long wait, those that do get a copy are almost certainly going to get some great stuff.
Future updates will be shared on this website and those interested can pre-order the book here for when it arrives on January 13th;
