Back with another artbook being published by themselves, Square Enix has announced an artbook for their beloved strategy game Final Fantasty Tactics.

The Art of Final Fantasy Tactics will feature artwork for the original 1997 release of the game, which includes never-before-seen images too. As well as this, it will also highlight art for the PSP release from 2007, The War of the Lions, and the upcoming The Ivalice Chronicles which is the remastered and expanded version of the game. Like their previous artbooks, it will come A4 in size, however the page count is yet to be confirmed, as is whether this will also be a hardcover like before, or a softcover. It is set for release on October 2nd 2025 in Japan and is currently up for pre-order on the Square Enix website, found here.

No English version has been revealed, although this is often the case with many of the Western releases coming a long time after for fans outside of Japan. An example of this was The Art of Final Fantasy XVI, which was originally published in August of 2023 in Japan, but didn't get an English release until March of 2024. This isn't exclusive to Square Enix either, as it is the case with artbooks based on games from Koei Tecmo, FromSoftware, and others too. Expect news on this to come at a later date.

The description of the book notes that it will include artwork for the characters, jobs, maps, and illustrations used in collaboration projects, offering a dive into all aspects of the critically acclaimed game.

Developed and published by Square Enix, Final Fantasy Tactics is set in the world of Ivalice and follows Ramza Beoulve as he deals with conspiracy, politics, and supernatural forces. The game was released on the original PlayStation in 1997 and uses grid-based maps to create strategic gameplay based on abilities, positioning, the environment, and more. The game went on to sell more than a million units in its first year, receiving huge praise on release, becoming a cornerstone of the genre.

In 2007 the game was released on PSP, titled Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, which added in-game cutscenes, widescreen support, new characters, items, jobs, and multiplayer. In September of 2025, the game will be getting another rerelease, this time subtitled The Ivalice Chronicles, and is launching on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/ X, Switch and Windows. This version boasts an updated story, improved visuals, difficulty options and full voice acting.

The upcoming release of The Ivalice Chronicles will likely introduce this series to new players, as well as seeing players of the 1997 release come back to the popular title, making it perfect timing to release an artbook for the game, likely a strong factor in getting it made. Final Fantasy Tactics players new and old won't have long to wait to add some of the early artwork to their shelf with the book coming a short time after the latest release.
