If you have been following the ongoing news about The Art of Star Wars Outlaws, you will know that publisher Dark Horse have a licensing agreement with Lucasfilm that prevents them from selling the book outside of the US and some parts of Canada. This actually applies to all of their Star Wars releases, including the comics. However, despite this news, listings across Europe were still going up, giving hope to those wanting a copy that it would indeed be coming. Sadly, that has not been the case. The upcoming look at Massive Entertainment's Star Wars Outlaws features the artwork behind the game in a 224-page hardcover book and was released on August 19th, with some fans enjoying their copies already. However, there are many that have been left empty handed, as this site can report first hand. A UK retailer had confirmed they would be getting the book and that there were no restrictions on their listing, but on release day they had no stock.

Most notably, Amazon had the book available to pre-order across many European countries, indicating they may have found a way to circumvent the licensing agreement to secure stock. Now though, in multiple countries, it has been delisted, hidden from search results and only available through a direct link. This is the case for Amazon in the UK, Germany, France, and Spain. Italy has it listed for delivery between November and March 2026, Sweden allows an import from US companies, and Japan has it strangely shipping from the UK with a month long delivery time.

Individual retailers have it listed as out of stock or unavailable, with some giving long delivery times or removing the book entirely. Forbidden Planet at the time of writing this has removed the book from their search, but it is also listed as out of stock. A UK retailer has said that the book is still coming, but stock has not yet arrived to their supplier from the US.

Some may be lucky and have got a copy outside of America and Canada, but it looks like many retailers have been let down by suppliers, perhaps given false information about their ability to acquire stock. It may also be the case that some didn't know about the restrictions, listing it with the assumption it would show up like any other Dark Horse artbook. Regardless, it's a shame that the book is in this situation, especially as the team that made the game are based in Sweden.

Ubisoft have released multiple artbooks through Dark Horse, including The Art of Assassin's Creed Shadows, so it is likely they have an ongoing contract and couldn't release this book through someone else that has a worldwide shipping agreement, such as Abrams Books who publish the Star Wars artbooks for movies and shows. game publishers and studios are very hands off with the books though, it may even be possible that Ubisoft wasn't aware this would be the case. Massive Entertainment themselves didn't know about the restrictions until they read previous reporting on this website. Hopefully the teams will know for next time should they work on another Star Wars game.

A copy of The Art of Star Wars Outlaws is still on order to join the collection here, so it will be arriving at some point. It's not ideal that it couldn't arrive for release to be reviewed and previewed, but that will still happen when it does make its way across the pond. If you are thinking about buying the book and want an in-depth review with photos, be sure to check back here and find my thoughts. If you already want to order a copy though, you can do so below, with a direct link for UK readers too, in case it does become available.
