The Artbook Collector YouTube channel looks back at the studio behind some of the biggest animated movie releases, Blue Sky. Sadly no longer around, many people have, and still do, grow up with some of their characters and worlds, and their concept art was shared in The Art of Blue Sky Studios.

The hardcover was released in 2014 by Insight Editions (or Titan Books in the UK) and celebrated 15 years of movie magic with a look at artwork for Ice Age, Robots, Rio, Epic, and more. The book is huge and came with 304 pages, giving plenty of space for each movie to get the showcase they deserve.

Inside is a look at art for the characters, locations, and key moments of the movies, as well as some 3D models and colourscripts. Alongside the art are insights into the making of the movies, with interviews with the creatives behind the classic releases. All of this makes the book perfect for fans new and old that would like to know more about the worlds Blue Sky Studios created. Seeing the earliest art for some of animations most iconic characters—the hilarious acorn-chasing Scrat being a fan favourite—makes this a welcome addition to any shelf.

Blue Sky Studios was founded in 1987 in Connecticut as a visual effects studio, before movie into feature animation. its first big hit was in 2002 with Ice Age, which is now one of the biggest franchises in the genre. The team created 13 movies, including Robots, Rio, Horton Hears a Who!, The Peanuts Movie, and Spies in Disguise. They were known for their family friendly animation, creating titles that appealed to both children and adults, giving them widespread appeal, as well as being watched today by parents introducing a new generation to their childhood favourites.

In 2019 Blue Sky was bought by Disney as an asset of 21st Century Fox, but was then sadly closed down in 2021. Ice Age still has life though, as another entry is coming from Disney in 2027.
