'Art of Over the Garden Wall: Expanded Edition' Takes Fans Back into the Unknown

After giving those that loved Over the Garden Wall a peek at the artwork behind the series in 2017, Dark Horse Books are releasing an updated version to celebrate Wirt and Greg's adventure. Art of Over the Garden Wall: Expanded Edition has been revealed today and include a look back at another decade of the award-winning animation's legacy.
The 208-page book is set for release on February 9th 2027 and comes as a 10" x 11" hardcover. The wonderful artwork for the new edition can be seen above, which is a change from the original, but continues to highlight that animation artbooks have some of the best covers on the market. Pre-orders should begin to go live shortly for a RRP of $54.99 in the US, with over regions expected to reveal pricing as listings go live.
This Expanded Edition adds a new chapter that dives into releases from over the last 10 years, including Mondo's collectible figures, BOOM! Studios comic series, and more, highlighting more artwork and new interviews. This makes this updated volume the ultimate companion to the show, building upon the sold-out original.
A Deluxe Edition is also available and adds a slipcase, a foiled cover, gilded page edges, and a ribbon bookmark, offering a more premium presentation for people wanting to celebrate Over the Garden Wall with some extra flare. You can see the slipcase and book cover for this edition below.
This an exciting release for fans of the dark fantasy series, as it allows those that missed out on the original book to add a volume of early artwork and interviews to their shelf when it arrives next year. It also gives the most dedicated fans a chance to update their collection with the new version that has over 30 new pages to pore over. On top of this, it will also feature a new foreword from Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch.
Speaking on the book, Over the Garden Wall creator Patrick McHale said the following;
"It's finally back in print! I'm so happy people will soon be able to get their mitts on this book again, now in its new expanded form!"
The book's author Sean Edgar also added his thoughts in the press release;
"Revisiting The Unknown and all of the lives it's touched—from the folks at Aardman to Elijah, Melanie, and Collin—has been a delight, Pat's created a masterpiece for the decades. We'll see you all in another ten years when we have long beards and lanterns of our own!"
Over the Garden Wall is a fantasy animated miniseries created by Patrick McHale and was shown on Cartoon Network. The series follows half-brothers Wirt and Greg on their journey home in a strange forest called the Unknown that is filled with secrets and unique characters. It was the first miniseries on the network and came with an impressive cast of voices, including Elijah Wood and Collin Dean as Wirt and Greg, but also boasted Melanie Lynskey, Christopher Lloyd, Tim Curry, John Cleese, and more.
The show won people over with its visuals, storytelling, and haunting atmosphere, going on to win two Primetime Emmy Awards in 2015; Outstanding Animated Program and Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation. Patrick McHale also received a Reuben Award for TV Animation. Since then it has spawned collectibles, comics, with this new artbook adding to the legacy of the show.
