July 13th 2026 Some of the early artwork behind Spider-Man's biggest movie yet arrives on August 18th with Spider-Man: Brand New Day - The Art of the Movie, perfect for fans wanting to see some of the unused ideas and designs that didn't make the cut. Before then, check out just some of the interesting inclusions found inside! Before we begin, you can also read my in-depth review of the book if you haven't already, that, like this article, is also spoiler free and only shares what is included in the trailer. It's also worth noting that Sadie Sink's character, the third act, and more are not included in the book, so you won't find details for those here. The Spider-Man Suit At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, we got a glimpse of Peter's homemade suit, very much in the classic style from the comics. This style doesn't change for the new movie, but there have been some updates, with the material and its shine being one of them. As you can see below, there are different tones to the blue, which is also explored more on additional pages. Head of Visual Development and artist Ryan Meinerding said the following in the book; “What we ended up coming to was the notion of getting a bit of shine in the red to match the blue, while toning the blue down a little bit”­. This is reflected in the movie, which retains the colours, but loses some of that reflective quality. Art by Ryan Meinerding The Fabricator There are a number of concepts for Peter's fabricator, which as confirmed by artist Alex Mandradjiev, is based on a sewing machine, as seen in the spread of his art below. All of the technology is made by Peter himself now that he doesn't have the help of Tony Stark, Happy, or other heroes. There is also art of a large treadmill that wasn't used in the final movie, likely custom built for his enhanced abilities. Art by Alex Mandradjiev Iron Spider Suit It's not used in the movie, but Spider-Man on the rooftops of the New York making webs is shown in multiple pieces of art, and a couple show the additional legs from the Iron Spider suit. The double page spread seen below from artist Bob Cheshire is one of them, and while nothing in the written details acknowledges this, it's very likely this was a very early concept for the movie. The Iron Spider suit has not been seen since No Way Home, so it's likely this was included as a 'what if?' in the very beginning stages of getting artwork together, which in some cases can happen years before the movies comes out. Art by Alex Mandradjiev Punisher's White Gloves and Boots After sharing my review, the art that people were most drawn to on social media is the variations of Punisher's clothing, especially the white gloves. Many (including myself) also liked the trench coat design, but it was the the 1970's original colour scheme that drew the most attention. You can see this below from artist Adam Ross. Art by Adam Ross Spider-Man's Evolution One of the biggest things that we learnt from the trailers is that Spider-Man would be getting organic webbing, much like "Peter two", aka Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker. How this looks on his wrist was a challenge the artists took on with a range of ideas, from small spider-shaped markings, to an extending barb (seen below from Ian Joyner) It is also briefly mentioned that his transformation causes spiders to be drawn to him, though this isn't shown on-screen. Despite detailing that he is "turning more into a spider", this is only in terms of his abilities, and there is no mention of Man-Spider. Art by Ian Joyner Gray Hulk Yes, people were expecting it, but this wasn't meant to be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but that doesn't mean it wasn't considered. There are multiple concepts of this version from artist Wesley Burt, but it was decided that he would remain green. The reason the colour wasn't used is explained by Producer Emily Fong; "...while he is different than how we've seen him before, we wanted him to be recognizable. I think the green skin connects to the part of him that is true to Bruce, so he's still our green guy." Another concept also has hulk with some "Mark Ruffalo stubble", another way to show an unseen version of everyone's favourite rage machine. Art by Wesley Burt Savage Hulk's face Ryan Meinerding also did artwork for Hulk, looking at the potential of his face changing more significantly when becoming 'Savage Hulk'. The idea is that he would less resemble Bruce Banner, and begin to look more like the classic comic book version of the character, with the artist referencing John Romita Sr.'s version specifically. Art by Ryan Meinerding 'Frankenstein Monster' Hulk Ian Joyner is an artist that often pushes boundaries, and that was no different for Brand New Day. His designs for the Leader pushed horror to the extreme, and while he didn't quite reach those levels here, his designs for Hulk certainly change the tone from savage to monstrous. The extended brow gives Hulk a more primitive look, casting shadows over his eyes and giving his frown a little more intimidation. If his size alone wasn't enough to put fear into people, this face certainly would. There are also grey versions of this interpretation as well, indicating the colour change was a big consideration. August 14th 2026 The Artbook Collector YouTube channel takes us back to the seas this week, with a look at the newly updated adventure of Edward Kenway in The Art of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced! The book was published by Titan Books on July 14th, 2026, sharing a look at the art and upgrades made to the 2013 entry in the Assassin's Creed series. Paul Davies authored the book, the perfect choice having also worked on the artbook for the original version of the game, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. You can see a preview of the book below. The book features concept art for the characters and world of the Caribbean, the pieces that helped build upon the changes made to the fan favourite game. It also comes with 3D models and environments too, some of which are comparisons to the original game. Insights through interviews share the updates made by the team at Ubisoft, as well as some details on the world and its locations. In my review I praised the production quality of the book, as well as the exceptional environment artwork shared inside. The 3D assets were hit and miss though, with some showing the improved visuals in a strong way, but others simply showcasing what can already be explored in the game. As mentioned, this is not the first artbook for Black Flag, because Titan Books released one for the original in 2013, titled The Art of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. As it was a new game, this one is filled completely with new concept art that helped create the rich and vibrant world of the game.
